24.01.2022 Dogs on jobs #2 Meet Jessie. Jess is the faithful companion of our Project Manager, Damian. Jess’s early life is somewhat shrouded in mystery, but we know that, since being adopted by Damian and his family, she’s proved herself to be a loyal friend, affectionate doggy pal, and an astute foreman.... Jess loves a walk, loves a pat, has a great smile (seriously, with teeth), and is an all-round handy hound. Life and work is just better with dogs. Happy Monday!

24.01.2022 Russell, his partner Catherine, and their two teenage girls had outgrown their home at Fern Tree. Built after the 1967 bushfires, the house was small and cramped and didn’t take advantage of its incredible location, looking up to the southern flank of kunanyi/Mt Wellington. Matt and Damian were part of a team appointed to fulfil the vision for this renovation. Working from a design by Michael Shrapnel at Beachouse Architecture, the build transformed Russell and Catherine’s ho...me into a light, warm, and open space for their growing family to live and be. The abundant use of timber created a warm, open space that flows to the outside deck. And a steeply pitched roof and generous windows now embrace views of kunanyi, and bring the moods of the mountain right inside the home. The build has completely changed the way Russell, Catherine, their daughters (and Gavin the greyhound) live in their home as they venture into the next phase of their lives together. 23.01.2022 South Hobart Tiny House Every client leaves an impression on us for one reason or another. In Joanna’s casewell, Joanna is just awesome. Joanna wanted to build a new, small dwelling at the back of her central South Hobart homea place where she could downsize, simplify, and reduce her living footprint. ... Matt and Damian spent a lot of time chatting with Joanna and really listening to her values-driven vision for her new home and her life. A big part of this vision was Joanna’s awareness of her carbon footprint, and her desire to re-use a stockpile of recycled materials that she’d been saving for the project. You’ll hear more about Joanna in our next post, and how we found ways to honour her values and vision by incorporating her recycled materials into her build. In the meantime, we’ll just leave you with Joanna’s wonderful smile, which we think is enough to brighten anyone’s day! Image by Jordan Davis Photography

23.01.2022 Client satisfaction is always front of mind for us. In this build, we sourced a particular timber to suit our client's needs. As the rafters were going to be exposed, we wanted a durable product that could withstand the weather, but also look great. The end result was much more aesthetically pleasing than the standard timber options that are usually available. Our clients were happy, and we had the satisfaction of a job well done!... 22.01.2022 Meet the Enhanced team! Our project manager, Damian, has a few tales to tell from his many years on the job. He's also very popular at smoko time, thanks to a certain enviable baked goodie... Favourite tool: My Japanese pull saw.... Favourite smoko item: The amazing fruit cake that my partner, Anja makes. It’s a MEAL. Favourite band/music: At the moment, I like a bit of cruisy jazz while I'm cooking dinner. Do you have a pet?: Yes - we have a lovely rescue dog named Jessie. She's a bit of whippet, and a bit of something else, and she came to us all the way from outback Australia. Morning person or night owl? Morning! Nights are definitely for reading books and sleeping. You wouldn’t know it, but I Love collecting old pre-WWII mountaineering and Antarctic exploration books. Memorable workplace moment: Either the day I saw a meteor streaking over kunanyi/Mt Wellington (in broad daylight)or the day I met John Farnham. It was many years ago, when I was doing work experience in Brisbane. The apprentice plumber was digging a trench, and singing (very well!). It wasn’t until later we realised it was Farnsy!! 22.01.2022 Fern Tree Bathroom Part 2! This bathroom renovation was one of the most interesting jobs we’ve ever worked on. It was obvious that the person who designed and built the original, traditional Japanese-style bathroom had taken significant time and care over it. Standing stones and a pebble floor in the shower area, and a decking-style slat floor for the rest of the bathroom evoked a sense of being immersed in a natural, Japanese environment. Unfortunately, the underfloor water...proofing had failed over time, which meant the entire floor had rotted out and there was no option but to remodel the whole room. While it felt like a shame to take out such a unique bathroom, it led to some amazing discoveries. When we stripped the walls back, we found treasure! An old umbrella, coins from all over the world, and‘Froggy’! Our team was intrigued and quite delighted by the room’s secrets and we’re still wondering about the meaning of these hidden items. Perhaps the previous occupant was a traveler, and the coins had slipped from a pocket, to await rediscovery. Perhaps the items were left as good luck charms? Who knows? Stay tuned to see the amazing transformation of this fascinating bathroom!

18.01.2022 Fern Tree Bathroom Part 3! This project was beautifully designed, and it required a high level of craftsmanship to do it justice. Enhanced Homes works with a network of quality Tasmanian building professionals. We choose to only work with sub-contractors that we know will deliver the same quality craftsmanship that we do.... Tiling was a prominent feature of this bathroom, and the grout lines were a major part of the overall visual design. The tiles and grout needed to be installed and finished with absolute precision to achieve the desired effect. We called upon fantastic local tiler Jarad Sellers to perform this task, and we think the result is something really special. Image by Jordan Davis Photography

18.01.2022 New heights at Howrah! This Howrah renovation presented its own unique challenges. The house was a classic Tasmanian red brick dwelling, and the major renovation involved adding a new upper level to embrace stunning views across the Derwent River to kunanyi/Mt Wellington.... Our goal, as always, was to put our clients’ interests first, and deliver the results they wanted while also being mindful of time and budget. A major element of the renovation was removing the original roofsomething that needed to be done quickly to take advantage of a brief fine weather period. This required high-level project managementparticularly in coordinating large numbers of subcontractors to complete the roof removal within our very short weather window. The site itself presented challenging for moving materials from the suburban street into the build. Using a crane enabled us to work with maximum efficiency and quickly and safely move large amounts of materials where they were needed. We completed the roof removal within the timeframe, while also preserving the existing ceilings for the lower levelsaving our clients a lot of money, and giving them the additional living space (and amazing views) that they wanted. The success of this project was a credit to our team, and our fantastic network of subcontractors.

17.01.2022 Is there anything better than the smell of coffee in the morning? We don’t think so (especially on a cool, blustery spring day like this one!). Our builds are about creating a home, and a way of life. Of course, we focus on creating a beautiful finish and quality craftsmanship and using high-quality materials that create low maintenance environments. But at the end of each project, what we really love is seeing people enjoying a home where they can live life the way they want to (and drink coffee). Image by Jordan Davis Photography

16.01.2022 Seeing our clients happily living in their new or renovated home is the best part of this job. So, we thought we’d share that feeling with you today with this photo of Emma and Rob, enjoying their recently renovated family home in Taroona. Lots of different things make people happy. Something we discovered in our collaboration with Emma and Rob was how important space was for their growing family. So, during the build, our team found creative ways to increase the storage det...ailed on the plans by an additional 25%. Any parent with two teenagers will tell you what a difference that extra storage can make to your life! We love collaborating with our clients and finding ways to add extra value to their build. And we really love seeing those smiles at the end of the project! Image by Jordan Davis Photography

16.01.2022 Energy efficiency! Our lovely clients, Angela and Adrian, had a number one criterion for their buildenergy efficiency. So, we worked closely with them to ensure that this important value was the primary focus of their project. This build included triple glazed windows and doors, and an advanced, breathable wrapping system to envelop the building and seal it from draughts and moisture. The result is a warm home in winter that keeps moisture outeliminating condensation inside... (we love that!). Listening carefully to our clients and understanding what's important to them is a central value of our business, and when the results are smiles like theseeverybody wins! Image by Jordan Davis Photography

15.01.2022 Fern Tree Bathroom Part 4! Seeing the final result of a building or renovation project is such a satisfying feeling, and this incredible bathroom was no exception. We worked with our Brisbane-based clients throughout the project to bring their design to life, and it was a pleasure to see their vision come together. This was a project that called for close attention to detail, fine craftsmanship, and skill, and we loved every minute of it!... Images by Jordan Davies Photography.

13.01.2022 Meet the Enhanced Team! Our fearless leader, Matt Redden, is a man of many talents (including milking snakes, apparently...) and, rather than keep him all to ourselves, we thought we'd let you in on a few behind-the-scenes facts about the proud owner of Enhanced Homes Tasmania... Favourite tool: Hammer!... Favourite smoko item: Coffee!! Favourite band/music: So many to choose frombut if I have to pick oneGrinspoon. Hard and fast! Do you have a pet: Too many! Two dogs, five chooks, a cockatiel, a blue tongue lizard, stick insects, bats (I have kids). Morning person or night owl? Definitely morning. You wouldn’t know it, but ICollected all kinds of animals when I was a kid everything from bugs to snakes. I also used to have a job milking snakes to make antivenom. Memorable workplace moment: The day my foreman put the drop saw up his arm. It made me very safety conscious from very early in my career. Vigilant, is the word that comes to mind. We'll be introducing the rest of our team over the next few weeks - so stay tuned! 12.01.2022 Working closely with the designer or architect of a project, as well as our clients, enables us to create buildings that are a joy to build. We know how much work goes into those plans, and we love seeing a project evolve from an idea on paper to a three-dimensional home. It’s a pleasure and privilege to bring these visions to life. Image Jordan Davis Photography

12.01.2022 Meet Emma and Rob. Their classic little single-level 1950s beach shack in Taroona was proving way too small for a family with two teenage girls. Our renovation completely transformed the living space for Emma and Rob's family. We added an entire second story, a separate master bedroom for Emma and Rob, two renovated bedrooms for their daughters, HEAPS more storage (we all love storage), and a stunning entrance area that made the most of recycled materials from the original d...welling. This was a special build. Stay tuned over the coming days to read more stories of Emma and Rob’s home transformation, and discover some of the ways we enhanced their renovation to create the perfect place for this lovely family to live and grow. 12.01.2022 Meet the Enhanced Team! Our Foreman, Nathan, has excellent taste in music and baked goods (and a secret superpower as a maths whiz...) Favourite tool: The hammer I’ve had since I was an apprentice I use it every day.... Favourite smoko item: Chocolate brownie. No question. Favourite band/music: The Strokes, Arctic Monkeys, Bon Iver. Do you have a pet: Yes! Sid the schnauzer. Morning person or night owl? Oooh...a night owl. I struggle to get up in the morning You wouldn’t know it, but Iam a maths nerd. I love maths! I really enjoy working things out mathematically (often handy at work!). Memorable workplace moment: Finishing building my own house. It took sooo long (Not the first builder to have ever said this...). 11.01.2022 The Enhanced Homes crew shares an appreciation (or should that be a passion? Orobsession?) for quality hand toolslike this Japanese pull saw, chisel, and traditional mallet. We aim to complete every project with polish and close attention to detailand using high-quality tools helps us achieve high-quality results in our builds. It’s that simple. Image Jordan Davis Photography

09.01.2022 How much time does your family spend in the kitchen? It’s the heart of most homes, and often it’s a favourite room (might have something to do with the food). We think kitchens bring us together they’re places where we nourish and care for each other, work and talk together, celebrate, make memories, and store treasures. And that's why we build kitchens that are made for people, not just appliances. 09.01.2022 Dogs on jobs #1 Meet Gavin. Gav is a sweet greyhound whose skills include basking in the sun and being a couch potato. Lucky for him, his humans had Matt and Damian on hand to help build a nice place for Gav to chill out.... We love meeting our clients’ furry friends on jobs. It reminds us that good building is actually about creating spaces where people and families can live and be happy together (no matter how many legs they have). Clearly, Gav approves of the end result of this build. And he tells us that his people are pretty happy too. Image by Jordan Davis Photography

08.01.2022 New heights at Howrah Part 2! Sometimes, on a big job, it’s the small things that we find most rewarding. One morning, when we arrived on site at our Howrah renovation project, we found this lovely note.... Our client's mother, ‘Granny’, had seen the progress of this complex renovation (removing a roof and building a second story) over a two-week periodand she let us know what she thought about it! Thanks so much for your kind words, Grannyit was our pleasure!

08.01.2022 Not long ago, we had the opportunity to renovate a kitchen for a wonderful South Hobart family. Sustainability was important to these clients, and the choices they made for their renovationincluding these gorgeous Tasmanian oak veneer drawersreflected their values. Veneer is a really efficient use of timber. It requires very little material while giving the impression of a full timber kitchen. When you combine this with high-quality hardware (such as a soft-close drawer sy...stem), the result is a beautifully ergonomic, user-friendly kitchen. Removing the need for drawer handles also gave beautiful clean lines to this project, and eliminated those cheeky (and very irritating!) handle/clothing catches in a high traffic area. Image by Jordan Davis Photography

08.01.2022 Our project manager, Damian, names this Japanese pull saw as his favourite tool. Unlike standard western saws, which cut on the push stroke, Japanese pull saws cut on the pull stroke. This enables a straighter, more accurate cutperfect for fine and detailed carpentry work where precision is everything. Image by Jordan Davis Photography

07.01.2022 Remember Emma and Rob? They asked us to help transform their 1950s Taroona beach shack to accommodate their growing family. A special moment in this build was discovering old-growth hardwood rafters during the roof removal. This precious material was sourced at a time when old-growth timber was still being used for construction. We love finding ways to add value for our clients, make the most of valuable resources, and work as sustainably as we can.... So, rather than wasting such beautiful wood, we restored and recycled it to create a new entrance to Emma and Rob’s home. The result is a feature that preserves a rare resource and honours the original property while enhancing the new. Image by Jordan Davis Photography #enhancedhomestasmania #craftsman #qualityrenovation #recycledmaterials #builder #building #tasmanianbuilder #homebuilder #customhomes #masterbuilders #newbuild #residentialdesign #tasmaniandesign #tasmanianarchitecture #archilovers #renovation #designandconstruct #construction

03.01.2022 This job was a first for us The previous owners of this Fern Tree home had installed a traditional Japanese bathroomwe’d never seen anything like it! However, the bathroom had seen better days and had suffered from water damage. The new owners, who were based in Brisbane, created a sleek new bathroom design and we set about bringing their vision to life before moving-in day arrived.... With the property owners based interstate, clear and regular communication was essential in this project. We made sure our clients were well informed at every step and did everything we could to help them feel part of the build, despite the geographical distance between us! As you can see, the end result was pretty special. This job also had a few surprises for usstay tuned to find out more in our next post! Image by Jordan Davis Photography

03.01.2022 Remember Joanna? Her tiny house build in South Hobart had a focus on sustainability. Matt and Damian spent a lot of time listening to Joanna’s vision for her building project. She was committed to simplifying, reducing her carbon footprint, and enjoying life in a smaller home (with a great veggie garden!). We love helping clients achieve what’s important to them. For Joanna, this was using her stockpile of recycled materials in the build, to minimise her carbon footprint. Usi...ng recycled materials can add a little more time and cost to a project, but the results can be well worth it. In this case, we re-purposed old timber boards as architraves and window sills, and re-dimensioned some recycled hardwood rails to turn into shelves (complete with LED lighting) in the master bedroom and bathroom. These re-used materials added a unique quality to Joanna’s tiny home and helped her fulfill her goal of living more simply and sustainably. Image by Jordan Davis Photography

01.01.2022 Meet the Enhanced team! Our intrepid apprentice, Oscar, likes mornings, dogs and toasted sandwiches...and he has an eclectic taste in films! Favourite tool: Rattler (drill). It’s the one I use the most.... Favourite smoko item: No question - ham and cheese toastie. Favourite band/music: Oh jeezthat’s too hard!! Do you have a pet: Yes!! Millie the dog! Morning person or night owl? Morning person (luckily, considering how early we have to be on site...). You wouldn’t know it, but I Don’t mind the odd chick flick... Memorable workplace moment: The day I learned about sledgehammers by hammering a star picket into my finger. It wasn’t pretty. 01.01.2022 Remember Granny? Leaver of encouraging notes at the Howrah renovation we've been working on? (Check out our previous post about this if you haven't seen it). Granny's love-bombing of the Enhanced Homes team continued last week with a very special "Happy Halloween" smoko surprise. Thank you, Grannyyou made our day (again)!... (PS: Word on the street has it that our esteemed apprentice, Oscar, has a particular talent for smashing out a pack of morning tea bikkies in record time...)
