22.01.2022 So much yes!!! Do you struggle with perfectionism? Thinking you can do it all and have it all is an unhelpful approach to life... but many of us operate from this perspective. Finding ways to sit with imperfection and the anxiety that comes with this can be a helpful way of managing this. . Repost @dr.menije ... Here are the lies around perfectionism: Perfectionism is doing my best. Perfectionism keeps me going. Perfectionism helps me succeed. Perfectionism will make my dream come true. Perfectionism will make me happy. I can do it all and have it all. This is not new. This type of unrealistic and high expectations of ourselves has been around for a while. It shows up at work, it shows up the way we parent, it shows up the way we take care of our body. It is so ingrained in us that we don't think of questioning until we reach a boiling point. Once when we are anxious and can't sleep once we are so burned out, we are paralyzed to do anything else once we are so overwhelmed, we snap at everyone and anything, that we realize this is some myth, trap, and bullshit (yes I said it). You can't do it all and shouldn't have to do it all. If this makes you uncomfortable, stop and ask yourself why? What have I been taught that being told I don't have to do it all doesn't give me a sense of relief, but instead makes me anxious and guilty? . #enhancelife #crawleyhouse #albertpark #psychologist #memtalhealth #performance #perfectionism #anxiety

18.01.2022 Are you hitting a wall... maybe take a pause and lean on the wall for a rest.

16.01.2022 Mindfulness is simply paying attention on purpose, without judgement. It’s the without judgement but that we often struggle with. We always have thoughts and it can be uncomfortable to allow them to float by. We can get caught up in them and assessing if they’re right or wrong. When I’m practising mindfulness I choose to focus on one sensation, my breath, sound, or what I can hear. When I notice distraction, I gently allow this distraction to be and I switch my attention ba...ck to my chosen focus. #enhancelife #crawleyhouse #albertpark #psychologist #mindfulness #mindfulnesspractice #noticing

15.01.2022 Take 30 seconds to watch, listen and breathe... Take a mindful moment.

09.01.2022 When was the last time you stopped and considered gratitude? When did you last express your gratitude to someone? . I'd like to express my gratitude to those who have welcomed me into their story this year. I'm grateful for the courage and strength you drew on to ask for help and to take steps on their journey to move closer to living their enhanced life. I'm grateful to those who follow me on social media and I hope that that which I share might have helped you in a small wa...y to look at enhancing your life. . . . #enhancelife #psychology #counselling #psychologist #therapist #change #hope #happiness #presentmoment #melbournepsychologist #contentment #happy #innerstrength #thriving #confidence #positivepsychology #christmas #crawleyhouse #albertparl See more

08.01.2022 Happiness seems like the ideal goal... but it’s hard being happy all the time. But maybe happiness is actually better thought of as a transient mood that can be impacted upon by many different factors, just the same as other moods. Happiness is most definitely a desired and pleasant emotion, but there are so many other things that we might feel. Pleasant, unpleasant, desired and undesired. And sometimes we can feel things that might be polar opposites all at the same time.... When do you feel happy? What contributes to your happy mood? How do you balance that with everything else that you might feel on a particular day. Do you know how to boost those happiness feels? If you were to list 5 things that have contributed to a moment, or many moments of happiness today... can you do that? Sometimes I think that contentment and equanimity are more sustainable emotions to work towards. This of course doesn’t mean we can’t look for moments of happiness and seek to increase their frequency. But cultivating equanimity in the face of unpleasant emotions could be helpful and even allow us to focus on the next moment of happiness more fully. 06.01.2022 Starting the day slowly...

06.01.2022 Exercise is a great way to start the day. Livestream Challenge 16/30 Every day that I move first thing in the morning I feel better. I’m in a better mood. I have more energy. I’m more motivated. I’m more likely to get things done. And there is research to support this. ... My chosen forms of movement are walking and cycling. It doesn’t matter how you choose to move, walking, running, yoga, tai chi, cycling, swimming, CrossFit, boot camp, or anything else... or maybe dancing around in the privacy of your home. How do you like to move? Does it help you start your day well? #enhancelife #crawleyhouse #AlbertPark #performance #exercise #mornings #motivation

05.01.2022 This is such a great take on the event of stress.

05.01.2022 Livestream Challenge 14/30 - Are your goals unrealistic? Sometimes we set goals based on what we used to be able to do. But right now, there’s something legitimate that is preventing us performing at that previous level. It’s not that we’ll never be able to get there again... it’s a case of not now, not for this moment or period of time. ... Maybe we need to focus on what’s possible right now. Focusing on improvement over a smaller period of time might be more helpful. Maybe you could shift your goals to be more realistic based on what’s possible right now. #enhancelife #crawleyhouse #AlbertPark #performance #goals #motivation

04.01.2022 This wonderful diagram and tip is from the brilliant @journey_to_wellness_ Check out her page for more great tips and drawings #anxiety #breathe #enhancelife #enhancelifepsychology A lot of good can come from pausing and taking a deep breath. ... When you practicing breathing techniques, you tap into your parasympathetic nervous systmes - it's your direct link to calming and turning off your threat rseponse (aka your sympathetic nervous system being activated).

04.01.2022 What can you celebrate today? Livestream Challenge 15/30 It’s been so long since I’ve been for a bike ride with a bunch. This morning I joined one of my favourite bunches and it was awesome!... The things I loved included the effort required to stay with them, the increased heart rate and breathing rate, the chatter, and the best bit of any morning bike ride... the coffee at a cafe afterwards. I’m celebrating that I rode further than planned and it was good. I’m celebrating the joy of morning rides that start before the sun rises. I’m celebrating the camaraderie in a bunch of cyclists. I’m celebrating the catch-ups over coffee after the ride. I’m also celebrating coming home to find breakfast made and waiting for me. What are you celebrating today? #enhancelife #crawleyhouse #AlbertPark #performance #goals #celebrate

03.01.2022 When was the last time you stopped, looked around and noticed the environment around you. Have you stood by a beautiful eucalyptus tree and felt the texture & temperature of the bark and thought about its age? Have you noticed the shade the canopy provides? Can you hear the wind in the leaves overhead? Have you paid close enough attention to notice the eucalyptuses scent, or picked up a gum leaf to crunch in your hand to release the scent? When we stop to pay attention to t...hese things we are grounding ourselves in the present moment and this can be helpful when we feel overwhelmed. It can bring us a moment of calm and create mental space that can enable us to consider that which is overwhelming from an alternative perspective. #enhancelife #crawleyhouse #albertpark #psychologist #mentalhealth #mindfulness #presentmoment

03.01.2022 Anxiety before sporting events is just like before other big events... Livestream Challenge 21/30 Managing anxiety before all types of events takes preparation. But it’s also about rehearsal. Rehearsing calming down, rehearsing cognitions that reduce anxiety, and rehearsing doing those things that you’ll do at these big events. ... Breathing, rehearsal, calming thoughts and just doing it can be helpful. #enhancelife #crawleyhouse #albertpark #performance #events #anxiety #athletes #goals #motivation #anticipation

02.01.2022 When an opportunity is presented do you look through the window, consider stepping through the door then turn your focus on the worst possible outcome? What about the best possible outcome? Do you think about that? What would happen if you shifted your focus from the worst to the best outcome? It might take effort to unlock this alternative, more hopeful perspective. 01.01.2022 Mindfulness isn’t easy, but you don’t have to make it hard. Simply choose a space with little distraction and choose something to focus on. You can also do things mindfully if you find sitting still and managing our distracting thoughts too hard... sometimes I find this hard too. Maybe try making a cup of tea or coffee mindfully, cooking mindfully or maybe exercising mindfully. Notice the sensations you experience as you engage in this activity and allow your thoughts to be... as you pay even closer attention to what you might be seeing, hearing, feeling, tasting or smelling. #enhancelife #crawleyhouse #albertpark #psychologist #mindfulness #mindfulnesspractice #noticing
