24.01.2022 A visit from Open mouth Bob.

24.01.2022 Why a mum brought her 4th child here for release of tongue ties. She is breastfeeding while we had this impromptu relaxed chat... Today at Enhance Dentistry, 5 families were here with their 2nd, 3rd or 4th child. It’s a testimony that our comprehensive approach has made a difference to our patients. A team approach with compassionate health professionals (collaboration with IBCLCs, manual therapists) who know about oral ties allows for best outcomes. Happy Wednesday and... we are so happy you keep choosing us to be a part of your child’s health improvements. See more

22.01.2022 RISKS of not BREASTFEEDING More literature on the potential implications of not breastfeeding - INCLUDING less jaw development and mouth breathing. "The use of baby formulas and bottles have inherent risks, because they increase the risk of oral diseases, such as mouth breathing, malocclusion, alteration of bite, and tooth decay. Finally, the intestinal microbiota, oxygenation, and... thermoregulation of infants are negatively affected by their use." Read the full article regarding infectious diseases, leukemia, obesity, neurodevelopment, intestinal microbiota and more. We have just added this review (containing 49 references) to our TTI reference list of 19-pages. We are committed to maximising duration of competent breastfeeding through early detection of poor tongue function arising from tongue ties. We couldn't do this without collaborating with fellow-professionals to enable longer duration breastfeeding outcomes wherever possible.

15.01.2022 From a published speech and language therapist - a dear colleague.

13.01.2022 Patients' experience and perspectives count Conservatively, tongue ties occur in around 10% of the population. In 2016, 0.63% of Australian children had treatment for tongue tie. What happened to the other 9% or so? How is it that some folks state they are being over-treated? Is it that they think the patient can learn to compensate with a tongue tie? Is it that they think that surgeons treat this condition without consideration and analysis? Or is it that they think paren...ts jump to surgical options without attempting other ways? Our patients will attest that our discussions ahead of any surgery include that release of a tongue tie is one of the many factors that may be contributing to their reported list of symptoms and issues. For some it is a huge factor. It should always be part of the considerations. Some arrive to us after months of trying things with multiple professionals who may have diminished the effect of ties or their treatment. For most families things improve after surgery - and for many, things are entirely transformed for the better. Despite the outcomes, unfortunately many families come to us emotionally and psychologically broken after not being heard, not being validated, and people not taking reported symptoms seriously. Those families tend to call us as soon as they can for subsequent children upon noticing the same symptoms. Recently one of the authors of the below article which claims that tongue ties are over-treated, formed a committee under the banner of the Australian Dental Association and produced a biased consensus statement. I don't think the ADA was fully aware of the conflicts of interest that existed. Another author of the below article runs a breastfeeding clinic offering alternative therapies to tongue tie release. This is not the only conflict of interest on that committee that produced a document on Ankyloglossia. If your child's breastfeeding or bottle feeding, speech or other important functions were positively affected by a tongue tie release, please read the below write up by someone like you. A parent that sought answers, and now wants to help others avoid the pain she went through due to tongue ties. She is raising some questions about this issue that are worth considering and supporting. In case they listen, please share your story on the link she has provided.

12.01.2022 Dr Jones was interviewed by Spot Rural Director, Heidi Begg about tongue ties. Heidi is a speech and language pathologist. Tune in and feel free to ask any questions directly from Dr Jones here or via messenger or from Heidi Begg. Dr Jones says she had a blast talking to Heidi. Follow the link to the Family Podcast on the link provided by Heidi in her text.

11.01.2022 What do patients say about video sessions? Watch to see and hear a family share how they find video sessions of Oral Myofunctional Therapy (OMT) from home. It’...s authentic, unrehearsed and sincere. And we are seeing amazing results in our patients. While Restrictions are eased as we move from Level 3 to Level 2 (meaning we can see our patients FACE TO FACE for OMT again!) - video calling remains an option for our interstate and regional patients OR for those who WANT to continue from home ... ‘cause OMT while wearing pyjamas is comfortable.

11.01.2022 Why we love what we do And, we are now on instagram

10.01.2022 Dear colleagues, patients and parents, The Australian Dental Association released a statement on Ankyloglossia that deserves a response from professionals, researchers and families whose experience was not considered in the statement. We have written a rebuttal with explanations of why the consensus statement was flawed from the outset. Whether you are a patient, parent of a patient or a professional, we invite you to read our rebuttal, share it and if you are moved, to hel...p bring about change in how peak bodies in health operate. If you are a professional who has contributed to bringing about better health outcomes due to treatment of oral ties, please co-sign our rebuttal and share it. The rebuttal is below (click on the below link) and the petition link is: http://chng.it/rdtJyHLm

We have up to 4 days available per week, and while we prefer experienced practitioners, we will provide full or partial funding for training in Tongue Ties, OMT, Myofunctional Orthodontics and dental lasers. 06.01.2022 Enhance Dentistry - COVID-19 update Enhance Dentistry is still open, although in light of the current health emergency we’ve made a few changes to our operation...s. Please note this situation is changing rapidly and so the advice below is subject to change without notice. We have taken extra precautions by implementing the Australian Government Infection Control measures for COVID-19 such as hand hygiene and physical distancing for patients (where possible) and frequent disinfection of office equipment and furniture. Our team has undergone specialist COVID-19 infection control training. We are keeping up to date with all new information that is available. Treatments Enhance Dentistry will not treat any patient who has symptoms of respiratory illness or who has been in contact with a symptomatic person or who has traveled from overseas within the last 14 days. All patients are asked screening questions prior to their appointment to determine if their appointment may proceed. Consistent with advice from the Dental Board of Queensland, we are limiting treatment to those which cannot be delayed, or which help reduce strain on hospital and primary health care providers. These include: Frenectomies for infants with the below criteria: Due to the risks associated with not breastfeeding / shortened breastfeeding duration, addressing restricted oral tissue is necessary and urgent o Feeding difficulties o Poor weight gain o Breathing, swallowing (choking) or sleeping issues o Maternal symptoms such as nipple trauma, mastitis or post-natal mental health challenges due to inability to feed. Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy Main program via video link Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy Holding pattern via video link (follow ups and conditioning) Myofunctional Orthodontic treatment including Myobrace where treatment process of oral myofunctional orthodontics has already commenced - via video link Consultation for Tongue Tie / oral restrictions & Myofunctional Disorders- completed via video link Emergency dental treatment Postponed Treatments Frenectomies for toddlers, older children and adults with significant breathing or sleeping disorders are generally not considered urgent will be postponed except in exceptional severe circumstances. Continuing care (check up and clean) visits General dental treatment Travel from interstate Entry to Queensland is now only open to permit holders. While a permit can be obtained for essential medical treatment, we are uncertain at this time whether any of the treatments currently offered at Enhance would qualify. Please seek advice from the Queensland Government website.

06.01.2022 You'd think it's not every day someone says you have changed their life! But maybe it can be What a lovely surprise to return to work to find thoughtful pressies and cards from our patients. The gorgeous patient who dropped off these chocolates said "you've changed my life for the better..."... And the sender of this card wrote the same. knowing we have helped someone, makes what we do, so very rewarding

05.01.2022 A holding pattern can help you stay safe but ready for action ... any time.

04.01.2022 A Grandmother Remembers her Experience of Breastfeeding Maybe you will tear up as well... We did. Listen to this dear Grandma (Sheryn) as she shares her challenges with breastfeeding her daughter over 30 YEARS AGO. She came to support her daughter as her granddaughter had feeding issues related to tongue and lip tie. After the visit, she began recollecting her pain and we were moved to capture her sentiments.... When a baby has trouble feeding, the person who takes most of the burden (if not all of it) is the mother. Every mother needs to be heard, their concerns taken seriously and for health professionals to attempt all they can to help them. This fundamental right - if not addressed by those that can help - becomes a deep hurt and scar that mothers carry. Even till they are a grandmother. This story is all too common and we have shared such stories before, and will keep doing so.

03.01.2022 INFECTION CONTROL and COVID-19 mindedness! During this difficult time, we are increasing our already standard and stringent infection control protocol by implementing the following; 1. Asking all parents and patients to wash their hands for 20 seconds, prior to any interaction with our staff... 2. Practicing social distancing. We are asking all families to wait in our courtyard upon their arrival, and our team will call you through when we are ready to begin your appointment (this is to minimise the number of people in our patient lounge at any one time) 3. Sanitising all surfaces (including all office equipment and furniture and EFTPOS terminals) following every patient interaction. 4. All of our team have undertaken the Queensland Government - Department of Health Infection Control Training COVID-19 to ensure we are up-to-date and doing everything we can to minimise the spread of this virus. ITS A DIFFICULT TIME - BUT we are trying to keep a positive attitude while we ensure the safety of our patients and our team so we may continue to do what we do best. Look after those in need. To read about WHAT we are and aren't treating at this time, please see our other post titled : COVID-19 : Guidelines for treatment at Enhance In light of this unpredictable time, please have a laugh at our ‘Social Distance Selfie’ P.S. Dr Jones, WHAT is on your head?! (It's actually a gift from the team!!)

02.01.2022 RESTRICTIONS HAVE EASED to level 1. It means we can see non-urgent cases. Look forward to see you soon.
