25.01.2022 Please, please parents take a breath, step back from the perceived demands of schools and just enjoy some time with your children. You can not possibly work from home, manage your family and 'home school' your children in the space of a week. I am heartbroken at the comments of so many parents who are at breaking point. This is a time of uncertainty for everyone, your children WILL NOT be behind if you take some time to adjust. It is much more important that you engage in Con...nections, Conversations and Creativity! Read the blog by Kendra Bell-Hayes, read any of the work by Maggie Dent, Justin Coulson, Marc Armitage to reassure yourself that your child will not only be okay but perhaps better after this 'break'. And as a teacher, I am definitely not being critical of my fellow professionals. They too are human and are scrambling to send 'stuff' home. However, it is difficult to send home meaningful, well thought out lessons in the space of a week and to parents with no formal training. Teachers are also at breaking point and this is not okay either. Please ask your families to read together, play board games, walk amongst nature and most importantly PLAY, PLAY and more PLAY. Reach out to a parent, reach out to a teacher and tell them it is okay to STOP, take a breath and just BE for a little while. Take care of each other.

19.01.2022 We LOVE watching children filling their time with wonder and "aha" moments...

19.01.2022 It has been all about BEARS for a few weeks at the EL centre - you know how much you love working here when you burst out laughing when you see what was set up the day before by our creative kids (team) - who can name the book?

19.01.2022 We have been a bit quiet on FB lately but there has been a lot going on behind the scenes! We are in the process of improving our occupational therapy space, we have started a new Therapy Assistant and will start a new Speech Pathologist next week. So much of it is down to the support we have received over the past few months and particularly during the COVID period so thank you, everyone. We are loving having you all back in our amazing centre.

18.01.2022 this! If only all children could experience this in their early years and early school. This is how our we do therapy and learning at our little centre too! From covering our windows in shaving cream to a game of hide and seek where the parents were the best at hiding - it may look like mayhem but the Learning is amazing!

17.01.2022 Our little safari workers made sure all the animal were fed this week #letspretendplay #speechpathology #safariplayground #sensoryplay #nextchallengetherapyservices

15.01.2022 Well that, as they say, is a wrap!! After another huge day, we have finished laying the floorboards and they look amazing. The EL team are exhausted but extremely happy.

15.01.2022 We currently have a limited number of both speech and OT appointments available in the Mandurah area. Our therapy is achieved through pretend play in our beautiful Enhancing Learning centre. Give us a call on 6140 3919 or email [email protected] for more information.

14.01.2022 Just been handed my label - not sure if it’s a statement about my mixed role at the moment or if the six year old is about to launch a seminar

14.01.2022 Last days to grab your ticket to this event. Key Word Sign Workshop, ticket includes lunch, morning and afternoon tea and KWS introduction manual. NDIS funding can be used for parents and immediate family. Click the link below to secure your seat.

13.01.2022 Could not agree more with this post! We too see so many children who feel like they are failing, suffering anxiety & stress and whose learning switches (particularly the safe switch) are turned off. We have a collective responsibility to keep pushing back, keep empowering families and keep protecting the well-being of children. Keep up the great work everyone!

12.01.2022 Still tickets available - this workshop will give parents and educators a simple but powerful understanding of how to best help a child learn new skills. Join Speech Pathologist Kendra Bell-Hayes and Teacher Anthea Abbott as we explore the framework or message us if you can’t make this session so we can let you know when the next one will be run. https://www.trybooking.com/events/landing?eid=670425&

12.01.2022 We posted about our custom-designed phone and device stand for telehealth the other day - it has been getting a work out at our house helping our littlest have virtual playdates with her cousins and best friend. Today they even managed to play hide and seek somehow! https://www.enhancinglearning.com.au//Telehealth_video_pho

11.01.2022 So excited right now! As tough as this past 6 or 8 weeks have been, we have taken the time to reflect on our little business and work out better ways of doing things. We have had some things change around us, as they have for many of you. But the end result of our reflections is overwhelmingly positive. We can't wait to start seeing our families face to face again (old and new) and implement some of our fabulous ideas. Keep an eye out for updates as we will let you know as things develop. Stay safe everyone, so we can see you all soon.

11.01.2022 "Your kids sense your emotions. They respond to the unsafe vibes you are giving off (and you might not even be aware of yet)."

11.01.2022 We’ve had so many connections, conversations and creativity with Nick Bland’s Bear series but it’s time for a change! This set up has actually been chosen by some of our creative children!

10.01.2022 This doesn't happen very often, but we have 1 appointment left for our Feeding Specialist (Speech Pathologist) on Monday, 23 November, in the Mandurah Centre. If your child has sensory issues around food, a limited diet or trouble chewing - give us a call now on 6140 3919. If you just aren't sure whether to be concerned, give us a ring and have a chat about the way Dayna may be able to help you.

10.01.2022 As I mentioned a friend sent me this recently, he said he thought of us immediately. It explains our philosophy perfectly and is the basis for our therapy sessions. Just love it!

08.01.2022 Ahlia was the best friend of our niece Please help make a difference by supporting Tom, share and donate where you can.

08.01.2022 We are seeking a committed Occupational Therapist who would like to be part of new approaches to therapy totally focused on play and movement. You will be joining our team with the opportunity to be part of designing our new sensory and movement space in our gym area complete with trampoline! We are interested in hearing from Occupational Therapists who want to provide quality services to their families with the time to research and plan the best approach each family needs in... collaboration with our experienced team. Any level of experience is welcome as long as you are open to new ways of working and keen to contribute to our research into play based outcomes. OT students are also welcome to apply. Next Challenge is well known for their flexible working arrangements and commitment to family-friendly employment. The Enhancing Learning Centre has been designed to help all children learn with joy - laughter in every session is our vision. We hope you will feel inspired to contact us and see if we might be the workplace of your dreams.

07.01.2022 We love exploring the possibilities and we have a team of amazingly creative people just ready to help families out - let's explore our options together to keep our connections, conversations and creativity! How can we help?

05.01.2022 Tickets are now available for our 'Help Your Child To Succeed' session. Use the Turn On Learning framework to better understand a child's actions and to support them accordingly. It will be held on Saturday 24 October, from 10am - 12pm at the Enhancing Learning Centre, 1/74 Reserve Drive. Click the link below to secure your seat. https://www.trybooking.com/BMDTP

04.01.2022 Sadly this is our most typical story when families call us for help - a systemic failure to provide essential supports

03.01.2022 In the current situation, more and more families (and teachers/ therapists!) have been adapting to telehealth or virtual visit options. One issue we noticed was how to best adapt the device you have available to obtain the best possible view for high-quality interaction and engagement (particularly when children are trying to orientate themselves in the screen). Current stands are set up for typing or viewing but are not ideal for virtual sessions. A quick EL brainstorm and we can now offer families and therapists this stand that keeps mobile phones and devices at the perfect angle for video interactions for speech, tutoring, OT and physiotherapy online (and any other learning interaction needed). It is lightweight but stable even for larger devices such as ipads/tablets.

02.01.2022 We hope you are all managing to find some silver linings in the stormy clouds at present. I'm loving the opportunity to take some deep breaths and not rush to all the places I usually need to be (and usually love to be). I went for a stroll with my daughter along the river today. Let us know what your silver lining has been this week. Stay safe everyone!

01.01.2022 Tom completed his ride to raise funds to find a cure for DIPG yesterday. Amazing workTom Buchanan. His niece lost her fight to this terrible disease last year. Our thoughts are always with her whole family.

01.01.2022 We have had another busy day at the Enhancing Learning Centre. Our space out the back is improving all the time. Can’t wait for the reactions of our families (and therapists) this week. A couple of before & after pics
