11.01.2022 There appears to have been a break down in the cold chain at Bankstown Hospital with a fridge used for storing vaccines cycling too low in temperature. It's still too early to know what the cause of the the temperature breach was. Assuming it wasn't a domestic fridge I'd be interested to know if if they were completing a temperature monitoring chart or if they had a temperature data logger as these will usually detect such temperature excursions. Over stocking is mentioned as... a possible cause. If a vaccine fridge is over stocked two things can occur. The passage of air around the vaccines can be impaired leading to hot and cold spots. Also if there is too much stock, vaccines can slip over the protective bar at the rear of the shelves. This protective bar is there to keep the vaccines away from the rear wall of the fridge.
