22.01.2022 The awakened feminine mother My journey into motherhood was one of the hardest experiences, but ultimately the one that has delivered me to my greatest spi...ritual journey. As we grow life inside of us, we are invited to participate in a sacred ceremony of awakening, reminding us that we are sacred and connected to spirit. This journey of love reminds us of our duality and takes us into our most vulnerable moments as we want only the best for our children and would do anything to protect them. Within this journey, we are also called to look within and see that it is in fact our children who have chosen us, in all our rawness, flaws and loving honesty. We spend the early part of our children's years teaching them about life. But as they grow older and start to show us their version of life, we can be triggered to face our own unhealed selves. This is both beautiful and difficult, reminding us of both our divinity and humanity. So, while the heart of my coaching and mentoring work is focused on teens, I would like to extend my support to the mothers of teens. Our children reflect the magical dance between creator and creation and it is why we, the awakening mothers, need to come together to support each other and share our stories I am excited to be launching my private Facebook group for mothers who are searching for greater connection to their teen, the teen who may be challenging your ideals of motherhood or who you are wanting to support but are feeling lost in the maze of life's challenges. I am looking to support mothers who are awakening and in search of healing for themselves and their families. Within this group, I will be creating some FREE content to support YOU in this journey with your teen. Within this group, you can share your story with like-minded mothers who are on the same journey as you, and together, we can heal, grow and feel empowered. 12.01.2022 Facing the fear A few months ago, I announced my resignation from my job in pursuit of creating my own business and divine calling. And that is certainly true, I left my permanancy but was still left with the need to earn an income... So I took up casual teaching, which then turned into a temp teaching block, finding myself back in the classroom and facing many reminders of why I left in the first place.... In between, I kept working on the business, slowly, safely, still working the 9-5 schedule which still had me a little 'too busy' to give the business my all which meant progress was slow. The business happened around my day job and kept me tired. So today, I can finally say 'I quit my job!' Today was the last time in a school for both myself and my son! Today marks the next stage of the journey, the great unknown and leap of faith! Following your heart is not some romantic concepts like it is in the movies. The truth is, it is terrifying as you stand face to face with your fears, primal ones that have you wondering if you will be able to survive. Doubts try to creep their way into your mind, even as you sleep and dream about them. You are tempted to fall back into the old way of doing things because they are safe. Following your heart actually means quietening the mind so that you can still hear your inner voice, the one that is guiding you to your soul purpose. Today marks the end of comfort and security and the beginning of vulnerable, authentic aliveness that comes when your pursue that which speaks to your soul, in loving trust. 11.01.2022 What changes has 2020 brought into your life? When life throws us a curve ball, we always have a choice. In my resignation letter, I included Robert Frost's poem 'The Road Not Taken' to explain to my Principal that I had made a choice (who puts a poem in a resignation letter? I do! )... "Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both" These lines remind us that we always have a choice, even if it isn't easy to make, even if we want both. This is called free will and having choice is empowering. "And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth" These lines mean that life is a journey and for many of us, there is a dream we have been thinking about and perhaps contemplating for a while. However, this dream requires great risk because we cannot always see exactly where the path takes us which means trusting and surrendering to our soul's calling "Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim, Because it was grassy and wanted wear" These lines suggest that the road that leads us to our greatest joy and an authentic life is often the less conventional one but the invitation to it is our inner voice speaking to us. It is the one that requires strength, conviction, passion and leadership to walk down. "Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back". And here we can see that there comes a point that once the decision has been made, there is no turning back. The experiences and perspectives you gain on this new journey are transformative and leaving the old to bring in the new is what it is all about. We must be willing to let go of old beliefs, habits, relationships, and ways of living in order to bring in the joy and love of life that we are all searching for. As I write these words, I feel so deeply connected to them and this is a poem that I have always loved to teach teens to remind them that life is a series of choices and that our mindset can really shape the journey of our lives. I wanted a life where I could bring my two passions together to make a difference- empowering my family and empowering teens. This humble, behind the scenes photo represents the journey I am on to achieve this and I am grateful for the chaos of 2020 to finally push me into action and face my fears. This is an example of how literature and personal growth can work hand in hand in coaching teens to feel empowered and excited about their own lives. 06.01.2022 The power of language and critical thinking for teens! Often when teaching English to teens, I would find those that resisted the work would ask me the question 'why do I need to know this?', or 'what does this poem/novel/play have to do with my life?', or 'how will this text help me in my job?'. Teens are searching for relevance and their defiance can often be a symptom of their frustration and lack of connection.... Our current world is shedding light on just how important critical thinking skills are at this current time. Recent events are challenging our perceptions and creating a lot of change and conflict. English teachers have always spoken about the relevance of literature, but perhaps we can now understand the importance for teens to learn how language can be used to shape ideas about the world? Our world currently has a lot of words and ideas being shared which are both positive and negative. Perhaps now, that essay on a dystopian text has greater meaning? This makes it clear to teens that characters in text are representations of real people and ideas about life! Perhaps now, writing a powerful creative story about a topic related to the human experience is not seen as a waste of time? Perhaps Shakespeare's exploration of power and language in his plays is no longer seen as "boring"? This is the philosophy that underpins my courses and teaching approaches. 04.01.2022 Feeling empowered in the uncertainty of 2021 The past few weeks have given many of us a chance to reflect on the year that has ended and look forward to what the new year might offer. Many are feeling hurt and powerless as we face the fear of a world that no longer looks and feels the way it used to. Fear can trigger us and bring out our shadow sides, either in the way we use language with others or how we retreat within. Our teens will be feeling these emotions, whether... they show it or not and soon they will face another uncertain year in their education. How prepared are your teens? Will they be approaching the year with strength and resilience or weakness and struggle? Will they be able to handle learning in a digital world? Teens who have opportunities to work with a coach, mentor or tutor can be a support that is definitely needed to help set them up for life in a changing world. 03.01.2022 I wonder how schools are going to tackle discussions about current world events? Teachers are not allowed to push their political views onto their students. The issue of what is the truth is at hand here rather than a clearly defined package about who is right and wrong.... Educators have a responsibility to navigate this carefully and thoughtfully.

03.01.2022 Why is literature important in our lives? It has the power to represent both the personal and collective experiences of humanity. Today I feel such immense pride that our nation's Indigenous community, most significantly, our Aboriginal Elders will be leading a powerful global event, a sacred ceremony that they have been preparing for to help raise the vibration of the world at a time when we need it the most! ... For years, I have been teaching literature that represents the Indigenous perspective and find myself in awe of such ancient spiritual traditions. As a non Indigenous, I always feel such a responsibility to teach these texts with respect that brings awareness to students. One of my favourite poems to teach is Oodgeroo Noonuccal's poem 'We Are Going', a poem that represents the power that a collective can have against destruction. This is one of the texts that will feature in my 'Bridging the Gap' online course, where I explore the way language has been used to represent such important ideas! So today, as we prepare for this global event, we are invited to purge our fears and replace them with loving thoughts and prayers for our world. We are being invited to challenge the fear that is running through the minds of so many amongst the chaos and to consider how powerful we actually are when we unite in love! When I teach literature, I invite teens to see the power that language has and how important it is in connecting us to our human experience. It is not JUST about writing a good essay for top marks, it is so much more than that! 01.01.2022 You are more powerful than you realise! Your thoughts create your reality Today I saw a post online from a mother who felt defeated and disempowered within her struggle. All across the internet, women share their struggles of feeling powerless as they desperately want to spend time with their kids but feel they must send them away to childcare and babysitters so they can work in order to pay the bills, leaving other people to 'raise their children' and destroying the joy ...of motherhood. The defeat was present in their language, believing that it is the only way, that nothing else was possible for them and holding onto their identity as a mother who will do whatever it takes to feed their children, even at the expense of their heart and soul. To these mothers, I see you, I understand you because I was you! For years as a single mum, I felt guilty and powerless each time I sent my son off to a long day at day care, or getting up on a Saturday after a full work week to work on my side hustle, just so I could pay the bills and just scrape through. Nights were spent stressed trying to juggle dinner and bedtime, only to sit down and face the never ending deadlines of a career that had me burning out and up to my ears in lesson planning, report writing and exam marking! I now understand that this was my survival mode and stemmed from my beliefs of not being safe in the world, my childhood traumas triggered by my struggles as a single mother. While I loved my teaching job, I knew I needed to change before I fell apart. I knew that time was precious and that my son was growing quickly. I knew I would wake up one day and look at my son and see a young man, all grown up and I would live in regret for the time lost to be more fully present for him. His growing anxiety and the 2020 lockdown gave me the final push to take a leap of faith and leave a system that had me, like many women, feeling trapped and disempowered as a mother. But our limiting beliefs and inner narratives are the first place we need to start. I was able to face my fears and take a leap of faith because of the years I spent learning about the power of thoughts and understanding that our external world is a reflection of our inner world. If you say it is not possible, then it will be true. If you believe not only that it IS possible, but that you were MEANT FOR MORE than your current situation has given you, then that is the start of transformation and change. If you are a mother who wants to make a change in your life so that you can move out of surviving and into thriving, start with your inner world.
