25.01.2022 A really interesting read. What are your thoughts on recommending weight loss?

17.01.2022 I am not a huge fan of Himalayan salt for lots of reasons- including the carbon miles of getting salt from the opposite of the world... Here is some research to confirm that the amount of salt you would need to eat to gain the extra nutrients is huge (and you probably won’t be real well if you eat that amount of salt) and you also get some heavy metals thrown in for good measure with your salt (you also probably don’t want that!) If you are adding salt to your foods- conside...r some Murray river salt. It helps our tablelands around the Murray and doesn’t accumulate a billion carbon miles https://res.mdpi.com//fo/article_deploy/foods-09-01490.pdf

13.01.2022 I have real concerns about any corporations having patents over any part of our food supply or genome traits. The right to access food and the right to grow your own food and seed sharing has to be protected. There have already been issues with GMO patented seeds being mixed with other crops by insects, wind etc and people losing their livelihoods after being sued by patent owner companies. My strong belief is that we have to protect our rights to a stable food supply. What are your thoughts? https://www.google.com.au//s/amp.abc.net./article/12745896

04.01.2022 Here in Australia, we often get our health information from USA sources- and the differences in genetically Modified food laws here are not widely really understood. Over my next few posts, I hope to clarify the situation in Australia- and to provide some facts. In Australia- GMO foods must be labelled as such if the food has altered characteristic, for example a changed nutritional profile. All GM ingredients must also be approved for use in Australia. Never seen a label i...n our shops? That doesn’t mean you haven’t eaten a GMO. The 3 crops approved in Australia are cotton, canola and safflower. These are mainly used in oils- and if the DNA is removed in a crop it does not have to be labelled- so if you are using vegetable, canola or safflower oils it will probably come from a GMO source. (Interestingly, there is also an approved carnation). Another exception is animal feed. So we may eat animals who have been feed GMO seeds, including soy. Lastly, we import some GMO for use in food manufacturing- maize and other ingredients for use as food additives or they may be present in imported foods. If you wish to minimise GMO in your food in Australia- the options simply are -organic meats, buy Australian and stick to fats such as olive oil, coconut oil or local butter- so eat fresh, with minimal processing

03.01.2022 In our society we tend to use the phrase I need to lose some weight for when we actually mean I need to be a bit healthier. Dieting yourself into depression is not healthy and spending your life with continued huge weight fluctuations is not healthy. Being a low BMI and living on white toast, tea and Chardonnay is not heathy. This article shows research which suggests eating healthier- more vegetables, less red meat, more fish regardless of size is more an indicator of health. It’s time we asked people about their behaviours, and looked to things other than a weight judgement to assess health.
