24.01.2022 Plant of the month: Corymbia ficifolia (formerly Eucalyptus ficifolia), or 'red flowering gum'. Native to the Albany region of SW Western Australia. Also comes in a spectacular orange form, best displayed along Murdoch Drive (between Leach Hwy & South St, Winthrop). A fantastic small to medium specimen tree for your garden. Look out for the prolific red or orange blooms around your neighbourhood now through summer. http://anpsa.org.au/c-fic.html

02.01.2022 Has political correctness gone too far? Please accept, with no obligation, implied or explicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the summer/winter solstice holiday, practised within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others, or their choi...ce not to practice religious or secular traditions at all. I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2013, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make Australia great. Not to imply that Australia is necessarily greater than any other country. Also, this wish is made without regard to the race, creed, colour, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wishee. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone!
