01.01.2022 Friday Wrap Aussie Racing Cars The Bend Motorsport Park Round 5 THE Envirogen Industrial Services AUSSIE RACING CARS have completed their first race day at the ...brand new Bend Motorsport Park at Tailem Bend in South Australia. The first session in the early morning saw 26 of the pocket rockets take part. Youngster and newcomer Daniel Price (CNW Electrical Warehouse Nissan Altima) was quickest in the first session from Joel Heinrich (Osborns Transport Nissan Altima) and Justin Ruggier (Western Sydney Motorsport Mustang) was third. The session was red flagged after David Makin (Axil Coffee Rosters) pulled up around turn 16, but a quick recovery saw the session restart with 4 minutes to run meaning only one more hot lap by the whole field. Next up was the 20 minute all in STIHL SHOP Mount Barker Mount Barker qualifying session, hard chargers from the Henrich stable swapped times, once again Price set the pace to be only trumped by Hienrich immediately before the red flag came out to end the session early after Ruth Bowler (Ruthie Racer Racing Ford Coupe) pulled up at the end of the front straight and Maddy Dunston (McDonalds Camaro) spun and was left stranded mid track. Ruggier was third once again, following up was Kel Treseder (KKP Motorsport Camaro) with Tyler Owen (Owen Build Racing Camaro) rounding out the top 5. Heinrich took the STIHL SHOP Mount Barker Blower for pole position for blowing them away The last event for today was the Aussie Racing Cars first race. The front row of the Grid was left empty as a mark of respect to Gerald Daniels who passed away last week, Gerald in the late 90s was instrumental in the development and production of the first Aussie Racing Cars and owned the 4th car ever built. In Race One a clean Run from Tresseder off the start saw him lead in turn one after starting on the second row of the grid from the Heinrich cars, a melee into the same turn mid-pack had Bruce Heinrich and Reece Chapman Spin and run wide, both restarted although Heinrich senior would not complete the race. Treseder ran wide over the back of the track and dropped a place to Joel Hienrich and then loose another spot to Price. Western Sydney Motorsports Charlotte Poynting and Johnathan Webb tangled that saw the later loose a wheel with both cars retired from the race and the safety car out for a lap. Blake Sciberras (Western Sydney Motorsport Mustang) and Tyler Owen (Owen Build Racing Camaro) battled for 7th until the pair came together with a lap to run, Sciberras performed the perfect 360 pirouette and continued on and would finish down in 9th, meanwhile Owen went off track but gathered it up to finish 8th. Price ran the majority of the race in second spot but on the final lap dropped to fourth with car issues. At the end Stoked, was how race winner Joel Hienrich described the first ever Aussie Racing Car win today. its so good to win the first race and on my home soil, the start was amazing to see both our team cars lined up on the front row of the grid said Heinrich after race one. In second place was Ruggier, The car felt great, this place is amazing and we had a big tussle up the front with the Heinrich team boys, I was sitting in fourth but on the last two laps managed to pick up two spots I had a great start and spilt the front cars to go into turn one in the lead, I lost a couple spots early on but chipped away to get back up to third, the car was good and came on in the second half of the race, we have some work to do but at least we took a podium spot said Treseder after finishing the race in third. The Aussie Racing Cars have one race after lunch tomorrow with two more on Sunday.
