Local wildlife ecologists Alana and Chris got a call from their neighbours in Rapi...d Creek when they were found huddled under a pile of shoes on a doorstep. The population of this species in the Top End has dropped dramatically since the arrival of cane toads - making this an extremely rare find! "Hopefully these lil fellas have acquired some toad-avoiding genes from their toad-avoiding mother!" Chris Jolly wrote on Twitter. Good luck little ones! And stay away from those cane toads! A pilot project implemented by Te Ipukarea Society is placing geo-textile sandbags, each weighing over 1 ton, alon...g the coast to help protect against sea-level rise and climate change impacts. It is a hybrid "nature based solution" which will include the planting of native trees and vetiver grass behind the geo bags to provide a 2nd level of defence. An alternative to the rock walls commonly used in Rarotonga. A huge shout out to Koko and the team at SNT contractors who are doing a super professional job, paying so much attention to detail.
