23.01.2022 If trees could talk, scar trees would have a rich history to share with us Scar trees are of high cultural significance to the Aboriginal community. The scars are usually caused by removal of bark to make shields, canoes, containers or shelters The Throsby Tree is a protected tree here in Canberra that tells us two stories of our history A long straight scar on the northern side of the trunk is believed to be of Aboriginal origin while the triangular scar on the sou...thern side is likely a European survey mark. We worked with the Ngunnawal community so you can visit this tree on Dragon Street in Throsby as part of Canberra Tracks and see our diverse heritage for yourself Download the Canberra Tracks app to scan the sign at the site and hear a Ngunnawal teenager correctly pronounce the language written on the sign.
