20.01.2022 In order to best celebrate our 10 year anniversary, our Director Andrew Bowden decided that the typical birthday celebration sale was not true to who we are or want to be to our community. Andrew's mum, Narelle, retired as a high school teacher after 30 years and spent 15 years working with ALWS (Australian Lutheran World Service). They focus on sustainable development projects, teaching locals skills that empower them to create better lives for them and their families. Narel...le worked in Nepal, Mozambique, Cambodia and PNG, making a massive difference to countless lives. Importantly, Andrew knows that funds given to ALWS through their Gifts program go directly to those on the ground. One of our internal mantras at Envision is "educate, educate, educate", because we believe that educating people helps them understand their condition and the best solutions for them. We also believe that education is the key to advancing yourself in life so Andrew decided to pass on some of our success over the decade by sponsoring the building of a classroom for kids in South Sudan to ensure they get the opportunity to chase a better life for themselves. Diabetes is a serious chronic health condition which occurs when there is too much glucose in the blood. Over time high glucose levels can damage the body’s blood vessels and nerves, leading to long term health complications such as heart, kidney and eye disease, and nerve damage in the feet. The main types of diabetes are: ... Type 1 diabetes Type 2 diabetes Pre-diabetes Gestational diabetes If you suffer from diabetes (Type 1 or Type 2), you may develop eye changes at some point in time. These changes can range from simple visual fluctuations to more complex conditions such as diabetic retinopathy. Here at Envision Optical we recommend you visit us every 12 months for a diabetic eye examination, which involves putting dilating drops in your eyes to get a better view of the back of the eye. We can then accurately assess the health of your eyes and use retinal photography to identify if there are any complications arising from your diabetes. Regular testing means that any issues will be found early, resulting in quicker referral and treatment times and better visual outcomes.
