24.01.2022 Thank you to everyone who came along to the xc exercises clinic recently! After the original venue was washed out less than 24 hours before, we were very lucky to be able to move to McLaren Park, so huge thank you to Sue for accommodating us at such short notice It was fantastic to see some new faces as well as seeing some great progress of the more regular clinic-goers. It's always nice to see how well the horses take to the exercises and how much they make them switch on...... it also tends to sharpen up the riders as well If you're keen for some real cross country schooling, I'm doing some lessons at Monarto this Saturday and still have some spots available in the morning. Ideal preparation for those aiming for Francis Figwer ODE in June. If you'd like a lesson, send me a message by midday tomorrow (Friday). (photo 1,2&4) Abi Weir Photography See more
23.01.2022 Charlotte progressing in leaps and bounds with her cheeky but talented pony! Also excited to have an extra 2m of width down the arena longside after some 'deforestation' on the Easter weekend
23.01.2022 Never forget why you started. When your beating yourself up for having that pole down, remember the kid who stood at the side of the arena in awe, dreaming of r...iding in there one day. When your struggling to find the motivation on the dark, wet, cold nights, remember the kid who would rather see their hands turn blue than miss out on a second at the riding school. When you are sat wondering why you bother after weeks of rides gone wrong and difficult lessons, remember the kid who thought they could never master rising trot, but kept trying anyway. When you’re feeling deflated after another vet visit with no answers, remember the kid who didn’t care if they were riding or not, they just loved breathing the same air as a horse. So when you’re feeling lost and fed up with it all...remember that kid, that kid that fell in love with a horse and never once looked back... They are still in there... time to go find them. cromwellandlucy
23.01.2022 A great morning of XC schooling at Lockington last Friday - Marie did an excellent job of working through a tense beginning with her young, cheeky Topaz to kick some goals jumping the 80 fences!
22.01.2022 THE comeback for ‘The horse does all the work’ and ‘All you do is sit there’
16.01.2022 Happy Easter everyone! To celebrate, I just came across this EGGcellent idea
14.01.2022 This drought really sucks for a lot of obvious reasons, then there's the more trivial, very annoying reasons like DUST...EVERYWHERE! Going to a local hack day on Saturday, I knew my biggest challenge would be on Friday de-grubbing the horse's thick, not-yet-clipped coat that was miraculously collecting dust under her rug Thankfully I was armed with the ultimate dust-buster of coats, shiner of tails and de-tangler of tails from Vetsense With just a little bit of elbow grease later, we had a clean and shiny horse who took out a champion at the show the next day
13.01.2022 It might have been cold and blustery but we worked the riders hard enough to stay warm! Thanks for having me MDRC - great morning
12.01.2022 ...or they could've just used Vetsense Nutrilyte 4 in 1
11.01.2022 I attended Larkhill on Saturday with Lucinda as support for her syndicate. I’d like to share what I observed about this remarkable lady. She travels to the even...t on her own. No groom, no support, no hand holding. She’s travelling in an older car and and even older (but safe) trailer. She has done all the prep - gear cleaning, grooming, plaiting etc. - herself. After every phase she seeks out the stewards, the judges, the scorers and the timers to personally thank them for their contribution to the day. Walking through the grounds with her takes forever as she is stopped by everyone to have a chat. She is kind and caring and interested and oh, so generous with her time and knowledge. She is careful not to leave any mess and I even saw her detour on the way back from her dressage test to pick up a plastic drink bottle that someone else had dropped. Her horse always comes first and she is attentive to all his needs - he gets pats and apples and is carefully warmed up and cooled down and checked thoroughly after every phase for recovery. This woman is all class and someone that we should all be emulating. Have a great week! - Shiwon x
08.01.2022 Gets to the arena ‘I don’t have time to do a proper jump school this morning, I’ll just set up one or two fences to pop over’. Half an hour, 18 wings and over 30 poles later...’oh, how did that happen?’ Does anyone else get carried away like this?
07.01.2022 Couldn't ask for a better first outing for Lucy - down the road for a nice low-key hack day. It was also my first comp in about two years and it was so good to... be out competing again, even if I felt rusty about a few things like how to keep white breeches clean and dodgy trim-up jobs (tail was definitely not meant to be that short) After her initial excitement about aaallll thhheee hoorrsses she settled really well and did two nice workouts. Vetsense Nervaid definitely worked its magic to help take the edge off too! It's been a rocky 12 months for this kid (through no fault of her own) so it's so nice for things to finally start coming together. So lucky to have such a wonderful mare See more
04.01.2022 Digging through some files to find a certificate today I came across notebooks full of notes from lessons from 5 to 10 years ago (these days they go in my phone). Nice to see so many things I used to struggle so much with that are natural now. What stood out was the number of times I wrote, in capitals, ‘FEEL DON’T THINK!!!’...ahaha the irony Who else writes notes from their lessons?
04.01.2022 Pole work is great, but having to constantly get off to adjust distances for different gaits is not so great. This is a great idea for a setup you can use for all gaits without having to adjust it https://www.fei.org//3-exercises-train-your-horse-using-5-
03.01.2022 Always a great day teaching the lovely bunch at Adelaide Hills Adult Riders - AHAR. Awesome to see so many riders having wins in their training today - especially when the young/ green horses completely exceed expectations!
01.01.2022 Throwback to this little pocket rocket at Naracoorte last year. (Just had to edit out some moments of epically dodgy videoing from Ben). Little horses with big engines and bigger hearts are the best <3
