24.01.2022 Anxiety affects 1 in 3 women and 1 in 5 men in Australia. Now, many of us are feeling increased stress and anxiety in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, and experts are concerned there will be an increase in mental illness as a result. Being regularly active not only reduces your risk of developing mental health conditions, but it can also help those living with conditions like anxiety to manage their symptoms more effectively.... Remember to get up regularly, avoid long periods of sitting, get some fresh air when you can and prioritise daily exercise. Lastly, remember that youre not alone. If you need to talk to someone, call Lifeline on 13 11 14.

24.01.2022 A recently published scientific paper, conducted over seven years and including over 150,000 participants, has found that people with higher total body strength and higher aerobic fitness are 98% less likely to suffer from depression! This remarkable study shows conclusively that if you want to feel good you need to move!

23.01.2022 Exercise helps to keep your heart healthy. This is true even for those who have been diagnosed with heart conditions. 22.01.2022 No gym equipment? Its time to get creative! Theres plenty of great ways to add resistance to your workouts using household items. If all else fails, remember that body-weight training is extremely effective and you can still get a great workout with no equipment at all!

22.01.2022 Exercise adherence rates tend to drop as we age, with just 1 in 4 adults over the age of 65 getting enough exercise. Being active has a huge range of health benefits, and these are even more important as you get older. Exercise is also closely linked to cognitive function, mental health and emotional well-being. To help get older Australians moving more, were offering those aged +65 access to discounted exercise classes run by university-qualified health professionals. Thank...s to funding from the Australian government, our Exercise Right for Active Ageing program runs over 250 classes every week, all around the country. To learn more or to find a class near you, head to our website. #ExerciseRight

22.01.2022 There is a new blog post on the EP360 website. Head to http://ep360.com.au/do-you-need-a-new-years-resolution/ and you’ll find it. It’s on the importance, of lack of, New Year’s Resolutions. 2020 - a year that we will never forget.

21.01.2022 When was the last time that you engaged in some type of physical activity or exercise and regretted it? I guess never. One of my core philosophies is that some movement is always better than no movement and you should always be proud of when you do. Because the alternative is always much easier - to do nothing!

20.01.2022 New data from the ABS shows that many Australians are finding it more difficult to maintain a healthy lifestyle as a result of COVID-19. 22% reported eating more snack foods like chips, lollies and biscuits 58% reported higher rates of screen time 14% said theyre consuming higher levels of alcohol... Overall, 19% said they felt the pandemic was making it more difficult to stay healthy. If youre wanting to get more healthy, increasing your physical activity levels is a great place to start. Here are some pandemic-friendly ways to get started: Take a walk - Walking is great exercise! It costs nothing, requires no equipment and the fresh air and movement are both great for your mental health. Start with 10 minutes a couple of times a day and build from there. Bodyweight training - You dont need a gym membership to strengthen your muscles and bones. There are plenty of great exercises you can do with just your body weight. Head to our website and check out Exercise Right at Home for some free home exercise circuits that require no equipment. Sit less - Breaking up long periods of sitting isnt just good for your body, its also great for your mental health. Set a regular alarm to make sure you get up and move regularly throughout the day

20.01.2022 People that move more have been shown to be far less likely to develop Obstructive Sleep Apnoea than those that do not regularly exercise. It only takes three sessions of moderate intensity exercise to reduce your risk!

19.01.2022 Theres a lot of research showing that exercise has a positive impact on memory. Now, a new study has added to this body of evidence by showing that aerobic exercise can actually increase blood flow to parts of the brain responsible for memory. The study, published in the Journal of Alzheimers Disease, documented changes in long-term memory and cerebral blood flow in a group of older people with memory problems.... They found that one year of regular aerobic exercise had a positive impact on memory. Brain imaging also showed increased blood flow into the anterior cingulate cortex and the hippocampus -- neural regions that play important roles in memory function. Remember, its never too late to start moving more for your brain health! If you need some help getting started, head to our website!

12.01.2022 How long is your commute to and from work? Well, if its more than 30 minutes each way, it may be affecting your activity levels. A new study has found that those who work +40 hours per week and commute for more than 5 hours a week are 25% more likely to be inactive than those with a shorter commute. While long work hours have been previously linked to unhealthy behaviors like inactivity, smoking and poor eating habits, less is known about the combined effect of excessive wo...rk and endless commutes over time. This research indicates that your commute may play a role. People may also be too tired to be physically active after a long working day and commute, said the studys lead author. If youre commute is long and youre spending a lot of time sitting, its important to be aware of how this may impact your physical activity levels. Try to make sure you block out some time during your day to move more.
