25.01.2022 This week everyone who comes into work will receive a free banana! In another online shopping fail, Camilla unintentionally ordered 6kg of bananas instead of 6 single bananas....

25.01.2022 It's a double celebration! This month we celebrate 10 years in business - how time flies!! Thanks to everyone who has supported us over the past 10 years. If we can get through a global pandemic, we can get through anything Today is also Ty's birthday (look at the old man in his chair) Thank you Georgia and Amy for the delicious cake

24.01.2022 Happy New Year everyone! Our first post for this year is for those playing football - make sure you do those adductor exercises! A good one for Ty and his mates who start a new indoor soccer season tonight after a few years out..

23.01.2022 It has come to that time of year again with Movember coming to a close. As you can see I have outdone myself once again but not only in the Mo growing department. The team set themselves a physical challenge over the month, Todd ran 80km Camilla ran and eye-watering 241km and I did 2034 Handstand pushups. If these amazing feats or my stunning moustache move you to donate to a good cause please follow the link below. https://movember.com/m/14317038?mc=1

23.01.2022 Interesting stuff from the New York Times https://www.nytimes.com//heart-health-swimming-running-exe

22.01.2022 Movember has once again made a glorious return and the boys are making a tilt at moustaches again. Some money has already been raised but please don't let this tragic facial hair go completely to waste and donate to Todd's page found here. https://mobro.co/13492939?mc=1 We are also running another challenge to run 60km for the month of November for anyone who needs another challenge in their lives.

21.01.2022 Nice little infographic from NTNU summarising Camilla's latest article which gives an overview of response to different types of training. Full article can be found at: https://www.frontiersin.org/articles//fphys.2019.00019/full

20.01.2022 Well done to Andy for completing his first ever Mooloolaba Triathlon! We had ideal conditions - a glassy swim and a smooth ride enabled fast times!

20.01.2022 Physical activity in middle/older age.......: Replacing 30 min of sitting with low-intensity physical activity decreases risk of early death by 17%! Replacing 30 min of sitting with mod-vigorous physical activity decreases risk of early death by 35%!!... https://academic.oup.com///doi/10.1093/aje/kwy271/5245876

18.01.2022 What??? Wow!!! https://edition.cnn.com//new-planking-world-rec/index.html

16.01.2022 Motivation to get out there for a run! https://www.nytimes.com//an-hour-of-running-may-add-seven-

16.01.2022 A new range of Australian-made sauces for those with sensitive tummies....a little expensive but worth it - tasty too! Backed by Monash University. Easier to order online as stockists are limited in Qld. https://somefoods.com.au/collectio/low-fodmap-product-range

16.01.2022 Congratulations must go to Sarah-Jane from 'Cake That' for completing Camilla's study and for doing so well on her retesting measures! Sarah-Jane made this absolutely delicious cake the morning of her retesting!! So impressive! The macaroons are the yummiest we've ever tasted... needless to say Camilla was very popular in the office - word quickly spread about 'the cake that must be tasted'....

16.01.2022 A free eBook on the benefits of exercise for womens health and seeking advice from the right exercise professionals. Download it today! http://bit.ly/WHEBOOK2019

15.01.2022 With Tour de France kicking off this weekend we here at Exercise Physiology Brisbane have staked out a challenge celebrating the occasion. Enter: Le Tour de Push-up! Rules are simple one pushup for each km the cyclists are to ride each day. You have the entire day to complete the amount. We are happy to take any scaling option you so desire as long as you are consistent. If you want to join us in our collective enthusiastic idiocy give us a buzz and we'll include you on the daily numerical requirements. So far we have a handful of early adopters but we would love to have more people join in.

14.01.2022 One of the more challenging marathons we've completed, but also one of the most memorable. For anyone entering the Outback Marathon, be sure to include plenty of long soft sand running into your training regime!!! Entries open soon for next year and sell out quickly: https://australianoutbackmarathon.com/

14.01.2022 Key points from the Brain and Biome seminar held over the weekend: A healthy gut = a healthy mind! Gut and brain interact via the vagus nerve, hence why a poor diet exacerbates poor mental health. Avoid low-carb diets and increase intake of plant-based foods to create a healthy and diverse gut microbiome (i.e. high-fibre diet). "Transpoosions" (poo transplants) helping a wide variety of mental health issues.

12.01.2022 So we had an early visitor for Easter here at Exercise Physiology Brisbane. Wishing everyone a good Easter break!

10.01.2022 A recent study found that both 2 and 4 mg/kg caffeine improve10-km cycling time, but only in those with the CYP1A2 AA genotype. Caffeine had no effect in those with the AC genotype and diminished performance at 4 mg/kg in those with the CC genotype. Interestingly, Ty has the CC genotype and might explain why he instinctively avoids having too much caffeine!

10.01.2022 This has to be our journal club article for the week, mainly because it has cited our work : "Williams et al.(2017) suggest that differences in training programs and diet together with environmental gene expression modulators affect the traits for VO2max trainability". https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/30381476

10.01.2022 The world record was broken by Kipchoge at the Berlin Marathon on the weekend (2:01:39). Check out his pace for various distances below......how long could you last? I'm thinking I could maybe hold on for 800m

09.01.2022 Journal of the week is about glute med activation in banded crab walks and band placement. The research showed that a more distal placement (feet) elicited a larger glute med activation without an increase in TFL workload compared to ankles or knees. So here's a video of the foot placement banded crab walk for anyone who's interested. https://youtu.be/1H88ApCaiJA

09.01.2022 Has anyone heard of NightNav? It's basically night-time orienteering. We've been going for the past few weeks and it's a fun way to get some interval training into your regime whilst also working the brain - you need to think fast and move fast! Next one is tomorrow night! For more info: https://oq.orienteering.asn.au/groups/urban-night-nav

09.01.2022 Here is a belated post Movember update. Look at what your hard-earned donated dollars have bought you. It cannot be unseen! I'm going to leave these here and let you all think about what you did in the process of raising over $1000.

09.01.2022 Another Noosa Triathlon complete, and another difficult swim (bring back the canal swim)! The ocean swim was shortened due to unsafe surf conditions - this meant an extra long run up the beach to avoid a rip and a massive sweep (a good outcome for the runners out there)! Congrats must go to Andy for smashing his PB (a well-deserved ice-cream ).

08.01.2022 The probiotic Bacillus is effective at eliminating staphylococcus aureus - a highly resistant bacteria resistant to antibiotics.....read more here: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/323315.php

07.01.2022 Merry Christmas everyone! We hope you all have a healthy and happy 2020! We will be back at work January 6.

06.01.2022 Fantastic research coming out of Monash. Primary paper linked below. https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa1800722

06.01.2022 New arrival at EPB are these whole roasted crickets. So we've tried Exo's bar offerings previously and these new snack options are at least an interesting talking point. Who's keen to try some of these?

05.01.2022 Despite the unfolding COVID-19 crisis, it is business as usual here! As always, we are being vigilant with hand washing before and after each client, and regularly clean equipment. After each appointment, any mat, table, hand weight, fitball or rehab device used is thoroughly cleaned before the next appointment. Social distancing is adhered to when more than one client is present at the clinic. Clients are also actively encouraged to wash their hands or use hand sanitiser t...hat is available in our clinic before and after their appointment. Clients must use a towel on all mats and equipment, and we advise each client to stay away from the clinic if they feel unwell. For the most vulnerable, face masks and gloves can be used for extra protection if home visits are preferred. We can also offer home programs and telehealth for those wishing to self-isolate. We appreciate your ongoing support, and hope that you and your loved ones stay safe and well during these unprecedented times. The Exercise Physiology Brisbane Team

04.01.2022 A recent mouse study has found that exercise induces the production of new neurons in the brain which can improve cognitive function in mice with Alzheimer's disease! Read the full article here: https://www.sciencedaily.com/releas/2018//180906141623.htm

03.01.2022 Another Noosa Triathlon done and dusted. No celebratory chocolate thickshake this year - big swells and choppy seas meant that plenty of seawater was consumed during the swim . It was a tough day - the heat during the run didn't make things easy, but we'll be back next year!!

03.01.2022 Interesting article: One night of sleep loss has a tissue-specific impact on the regulation of gene expression and metabolism in humans, according to researchers. This may explain how shift work and chronic sleep loss impairs our metabolism and adversely affects our body composition. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releas/2018//180823095946.htm

02.01.2022 More glute med exercises for everyone to try out. If you haven't already go try the side-lying leg lift first as a precursor to this one. https://youtu.be/mnmNNVlc75E

02.01.2022 A timely inforgraphic from Asker Jeukendrup summarising the potential of probiotics!
