16.01.2022 Black solider flies - the best ever soil tonic!!! So easy to make your own farm at home and feed via your fruit and vegie scraps. Get yourself a large poly drum, cut in half.. add some drainage and grade to one end (to collect the juice), line, and fill with a potting mix & compost/soil/gravel and add you scaps, mulch and cover. The little critters will colonise in no time! Use like worm castings. Good to add to your compost tea also. Enjoy!

14.01.2022 Magnetotactic Microbes!!! Whew, that is a mouthful. But how cool is this! Magnetotactic bacteria (or MTB) are a polyphyletic group of bacteria discovered by Richard P. Blakemore in 1975, that orient along the magnetic field lines of Earth's magnetic field. To perform this task, these bacteria have organelles called magnetosomes that contain magnetic crystals. Wow, microbes are amazing - remember, feed the soil, not the plants!

04.01.2022 Banana Pits Garden - the best way to grow bananas!!! A weekly effort goes into adding a few wheelbarrows of biomass, which we aint short of currently as we're in our wet season with rampant growth. One a year we fill with chainsawed log's from around the place too which take a couple of years to break down - composting insitu. The pit behind is approximately 1 to 1.5 metres deep, and almost 4 metres in diameter with 9 different cultivars of banana - Red Dacca, Lady Finger, Monkey Finger, Pacific Plantain, Bulls Horn Plantain, Amazon Plantain, Goldfinger, Pisang balinese & Blue Java! We use a mixture of ground coves too including sweet potato, pinto peanut, rice paddy herb and taro and mulchy shrubs like Ibika, Sweet leaf & Canna Lilly.
