17.01.2022 Lets meet one of the young ladies in "The Epic Crew". Name/Club/Favourite Event. Montana Doubell , WARILLA Barrack Point, Ironman, board and board rescue... How's the training going ? I haven’t gone back to full training yet as I do winter sports too, so only a few swim sessions, S&C and 1-2 board sessions per week. Do you have any goals this season ? My goal this season is to master the mal and improve my swimming across the cans. I always try to improve on my results from last season. And I always try to eat better, although I struggle with this the most. What do you like about Surf Sports ? The best thing about SLS is everything really. I love the beach, the surf and I love competing. It’s also rewarding knowing that the skills I have learnt could save a life one day. Tell us a bit about your coaches ? I have moved onto a mal this season so I now train with the seniors. My new coach is Kirk Allen and I am really enjoying the training sessions. It’s super tough and challenging. Damo Sheedy also helps us a lot with technique. My favourite beach for competition is at south west rocks, we had country there a few years ago. The waves were pretty good and I just remember loving that carnival. Who do you look up to ? My idols are Courtney Hancock and Lizzie Welborne. I really admire them as athletes and as ambassador's for women’s sport. They both had very positive impacts on me as a younger nipper. Do you have a go to meal ? My favourite meal after a hard training session is scrambled eggs on toast with bacon and hash browns. Suntanning or surfing ? In my free time I like to paddle/surf at The Farm or at my local beach, Shellharbour. I also love hanging out with my friends at the beach. Name, Club & Favourite Event - Brock James Neall, Warilla Barrack point slsc, favourite event so far has been the iron (Up to u 15 but can’t wait to do ski events My current training program has some restrictions atm I am doing 3 swim sessions,3 erg and gym session , 2 flat water technical sessions in my k1 , and 3 ski sessions The best thing about surf sport is life long friendships and living a fit and healthy lifestyle My goal thi...s year is to make finals in all events at state this year and especially in the ski and to make all ski teams with my club My surf coaches are Kirk and Damion (they teach me that the surf is never to big , just never hesitate) My swim coach Phill McIlwaith (Dapto pool ) you have to push hard ,but enjoy what you do . Crackers /Craige my paddling and ski coaches (they push me hard but it is paying off ) My favourite beach is my beach Warilla My Idol is Ali Day, he started his career where i am Warilla My favourite meal after after training. Who are they and what do they help you with the most: Mike Murray (@mmoz75) is my board/iron coach and I swim with the PBC (@pbcswimming) swim squad. The focus this season is to work on my skills and technique. - What's your Favourite beach for a carnival: My favourite beach to compete at is North Burleigh as it always delivers challenging conditions. - Who's your idol and why: My idol is Matt Bevilacqua (@matt bevilacqua). He is such a good ironman, a great role model and always shows good sportsmanship. - What's your favourite meal after a big training session: My favourite meal after a big training session is spaghetti or pizza. - Do you have a favourite surf break for free surfs: My favourite place for free surfs is Palm Beach (near home) or Burleigh as it has a great waves and banks. - Suntanning or surfing when you have free time: When I have free time I skate or surf. 01.01.2022 Time to meet The Epic Crew. Connor Botha, Northcliffe/SouthAfrica. Favourite Event - Ironman or surf swim My current training program is focused on my ski as it’s it’s my weakest of the three disciplines and want to get it up during the off season, and I’m currently doing 13 sessions a week.... The best thing about competing in surf lifesaving is the friends you make from all over world and awesome places you get to race. My goal for this season is to win the Aussies u19 iron man final and the u19 surf race final. as well as get some results in the team events with the boys. Tell us about tour coaches - Shout out to Kev at northcliffe who’s head coach for the open men, who has helped my racing and skills improve so much over the last season. And also to Matt Bouman who has been helping me with my ski and iron training whilst I’m at home in South Africa and Graham Hill who’s my swim coach in South Africa My favorite beach to race at is North Beach, Durban South Africa because there’s nothing better than racing on your home beach My idol growing up has been Shannon Eckstein, I’ve always looked up too him for what’s he’s achieved in the sport and the way he carried himself as an athlete and how he’s so humble about his achievements My favorite meal has to be a big egg and bacon brekkie or some pancakes from chickery. My favorite surf break is definitely my Umhlanga Rocks, my home clubs beach Suntanning or Surfing in your free time - Definitely a surf, can’t beat a good surf in your free time.
