11.01.2022 SLEEP: It may not be the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about health and fitness. But surprisingly it is one of the most important parts of our life. Especially when living an active lifestyle. Sleep is as important to our health, as a nutritious diet and exercise. By giving our bodies enough sleep, we are able to give it time to rest and recover, repair and build up muscles worked during exercise as well as conserve energy. Having little or poor sleep has been ...linked to physical issues like a weakened immune system and is a known contributor to mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The recommended sleep time for adults is 7-9 hours. Interesting Info: The Circadian Rhythm is a part of the bodies internal clock that runs on a 24 hour cycle. When running properly, this master clock promotes consistent and restorative sleep. Our master clocks are directly influenced by our environment, particularly light, which is why the Circadian Rhythm is linked to our day/ night cycle. Our cycle can be affected by the use of devices with blue lights (screens/ TV’s/ phones) as it incorrectly tells our Circadian Rhythm it’s not time for rest yet. If you are one of those who struggles getting enough, or good quality sleep. Here are a few things you can try. - Increase your natural light exposure during the day. - Decrease your blue light (screen time) exposure during the evening. - Limit your caffeine intake late in the day. - Set yourself a bedtime and work on sticking to it. Try to avoid devices like phones and TV at least 30 minutes to an hour before bed. - Breathing exercises before bed have shown great benefits. Happy Sleeping
