21.01.2022 The coronavirus pandemic has fundamentally changed the way we live in the last few months. Some have begun to rethink their career choices and what it is that work means to them. The crisis has made many people think more about the role work plays in their lives, including its usefulness to society and its importance to the economy. The perceptions we have about meaningful work can actually have a significant impact on our productivity, wellbeing, and businesses. So what exac...tly is meaningful work and why is it becoming more important to us? In 2016, professor Catherine Bailey and senior lecturer Adrian Madden conducted 135 interviews to find out. People tended to speak of their work as meaningful in relation to thoughts or memories of significant family members such as parents or children, bridging the gap between work and the personal realm. The researchers also discovered that meaningfulness is more about specific moments in time. Instead of being in a continuous state, the interviewees reported feeling aware that their work had meaning at certain times and often at unexpected moments. Meaningfulness was also often associated with a feeling of fulfilling one’s potential and finding the work creative and absorbing. If all of the above resonates with you, then EPIC really needs you. We understand that the grandcare role, whilst often rewarding, can also be challenging. Grandcarers tell us that they really benefit from connecting and chatting with other grandcarers. This three (3) week program delivers fun and exciting learning activities for children and parents with the aim to equip parents with the best ways to support and extend their child's learning at home. Covering the fundamentals of early learning for both literacy and numeracy, participants will join in with age-appropriate learning activities tailored to the specific needs of the children involved. Parents will receive guidance and feedback about how best to support & extend their children’s learning by observing and joining in with a variety of play-based activity stations. Each station aims to replicate situations and resources available in most homes. They meet Constable Care, had a chat to Senior Constable Tidman about fingerprints, played tug-a-war and received kisses from Sonic, a police dog from the Pilbara District - WA Police Force and then got to explore a vehicle and meet representatives from the Australian Army!
