22.01.2022 Happy Succulent Sunday These are my mother's hands. She’ll say oh no look at those hands! when she sees this picture but I just see years of baking and making and cleaning and toiling in the garden I’d say 99% of the succulents and cactus we sell are grown, propagated and cultivated in her backyard. Who has met her in the shop? She’s an absolute gem and always up for a chat (especially about plants!)

19.01.2022 I can always find another spot on the shelf... what about you?

18.01.2022 Sometimes I wonder if someone is painting these dots when I'm not looking Begonia Maculatas are one of the most striking houseplants I’ve seen. I have found that they are happiest near a window but out of the direct sun. They thrive in a humid environment with moist soil, so water regularly and mist the area around them (but not the leaves!). If the leaves get too wet you’ll notice a bit of mould developing. Use a diluted sulfur solution to fix this! They’re fast growing in spring and don’t hesitate to pruning their little branches to create a bushy Begonia - they always a better look than a leggy one!!

11.01.2022 Troubleshooting Tuesday! Monsteras are one of the most popular and iconic indoor plants. They bring that instant jungle vibe, plus they're not too tricky to care for! If you are having an issue with your monstera, I've listed a few suggestions below: Black Patches: Could be too cold (move to a warmer position and avoid your plant from touching any windows if it is winter) or it could have pests. Inspect all the leaves, stems and soil for any little bugs (particularly thri...ps!) Lower leaves turning yellow then brown: Overwatering. Allow the plant to fully dry out before watering. Patches of pale yellow / brown, sometimes with holes: Too much direct sun. Move to a shadier spot or away from any windows that might be shining direct sunlight through. Water throughly. Leaves are pale, not unfurling properly or smaller than usual: Lack of nutrients. Feed weekly with liquid fertiliser. See more

09.01.2022 Whether you drive, bus, walk, bike or trike, make sure you come by this weekend and say hi! We have plenty of plants both big and small, pastries, cannoli, and of course coffee serving all day! Open 7-4 Saturday and Sunday

09.01.2022 Plant of the Week: Ficus Elastica Aka rubber tree, this is a very easy houseplant with stunning foliage. Shown here is the Tineke variety! They like bright indirect light. Careful when moving your plant from one spot to another - they grow quite accustomed to the conditions and if you move to a low-light spot it may start to drop leaves. I suggest a slow transition if you need to redecorate! ... Don't overwater! They need less water than you think. Only water if the soil is dry, and always test before you water! Clean the leaves regularly. This helps the plant to photosynthesize and prevents pests! Propagation: Cut a piece of stem and remove the bottom leaves, only keeping 2-3 leaves. Let the sap dry then pop it into water (filtered, if possible!) or straight into soil. You'll notice roots starting to grow after 3-4 weeks. Only fertilize during Spring & Summer (about every 2 weeks). See more

09.01.2022 Plants can take you somewhere else. They can transport you to a tropical island, an arid desert or a rainforest canopy. Today the shop felt a little like a jungle in the Phillipines, with the late afternoon humidity and rumbling storms outside Hope everyone stayed safe! We’re back in again tomorrow from 7am

08.01.2022 We had a sprinkling of rain today which the plants always love Put your indoor babies out into the rain whenever you can, they'll thank you for it! Just make sure you don't forget them out if the sun comes out Alternatively, try to catch some rain water for later - I love to pour mine into my spray bottle and mist away. We're open all weekend as usual, 7-4pm with plenty of coffee, croissants and Caladiums! Come say hi!

06.01.2022 There are two types of Watermelon Peperomia here. The one on the left is Peperomia Verschaffeltii aka dwarf or mini watermelon peperomia. On the right is Peperomia Argyreia. Both are similar in appearance, looking very much like little watermelons, but the Verschaffeltii has less round, more pointed leaves and doesn’t grow to be as leggy as it’s sister.
