Canon EOS-1DX Mk II, Canon EF 600mm f/4 L IS II USM Lens +2.0x III As to the authenticity of my image, I have included a screen capture using my iphone of a series of original images captured in RAW in the camera and unedited. If anyone feels I photoshopped the image too heavily, I hope the rest of the photos can help to assist. The rainbow contrails are sometimes visible when the Sun is at the correct angle to the aircraft and the right type of vapour is forming behind the aircraft. The Sun reflects off the frozen ice crystals in the same way it does off water droplets giving the rainbow effect. Condensation rainbows which also sometimes form behind an aircraft at lower altitudes are similar. The effect usually only lasts a few seconds, it is not visible across the whole sky and actually disappears as quick as it appears. Usually at these heights the rainbow is also very difficult to see with the naked eye, bearing in mind I am shooting with a supertelephoto lens. Hope that helps to explain it!
