16.01.2022 This quote from Stephen Covey has got me thinking. Where are you working when it comes to your HR "system"? In meeting your employment obligations, is your HR system reflective of a command & control style (management), or one of engagement & enabling (leadership)? #foodforthought #businessowner #humanresources

08.01.2022 Employment legislation is not the sexiest or most exciting topic to talk about. In fact, many people avoid it like crazy! So it was great to take participants through the basics with practical examples, where we stepped through critical components that will allow them to "climb the ladder" and minimise "sliding down the snake". The next workshop is scheduled for late March 2021, where we will be covering off on "Addressing Poor Performance/Conduct". ... Details will be released soon.

07.01.2022 It was great to attend the first Family Business Australia "Meet the Owner" event for 2021. We got to hear how The Bowden Print Group is embracing the digital era of technological change and their journey towards becoming a socially responsible business, before embarking on a private tour "behind the scenes". Impressive I must say! If you have any printing requirements, I would encourage you to reach out to this great SA family-owned business - https://bowdengroup.com.au/ T...here does not appear to be much that they can not do in terms of printing! #sabusiness #sagreat #familybusiness

07.01.2022 Changes to casual employment laws have finally arrived. These changes have seen the Fair Work Act amended to reflect the workplace rights and obligations for casual employees. FOR NEW CASUAL EMPLOYEES:... Effective from 27 March 2021, a person is a casual employee if they accept an offer of employment knowing that there is no firm advance commitment to ongoing work, with an agreed pattern of work. In addition, all casual employees are required to receive a copy of the Casual Employment Information Statement (CEIS), as well as the usual Fair Work Information Statement (FWIS), at the time of receiving their employment contract, or as soon as possible after commencing their employment. It is important that your employment contracts for new casual reflect these changes - no defined hours or pattern of work - and that the employment contract (or letter of engagement) also contains a casual loading offset clause. Please reach out if you require assistance with the preparation of a casual employment contract for new employees.

03.01.2022 Did you know that your staff generally want to do their best when they come to work? So how do you handle the times when something is not quite right with their performance and/or conduct? Do you need to issue three warnings before you can terminate the employment of an employee? Not necessarily - it depends on the matter we are addressing! I will let you into a little secret - it is all about the process and the systems you have in place.... If this is an area that you would like to understand further, then please join me on 30 March 2021 at the Hallett Cove Civic Centre where we will delve into understanding the obligations and processes that will assist you in addressing staff issues. To register, head on over to: https://addressing-performance-and-conduct.eventbrite.com.au
