25.01.2022 The 66 Jig Saw Puzzle Convertible left yesterday and is on its way home with the owner .. On to the next one... I better pull my finger out and finish that 66 Fastback...
24.01.2022 Made up the Spacers for the Power Steering Pump Mounts today... Got the Tailshaft made for it.. Ordered a 4 Core Radiator.. Gotta book it into the local Auto Trans Shop to get the Shifter Linkage kit fitted to be able to run the original C4 Shifter on the AOD Auto.. Get them to modify the C4 Trans lines to fit the AOD .. Then to get the Exhaust done.. Then its pull apart time..
24.01.2022 The ol Jigsaw Puzzle 66 Convertible looks like a Car now... Time to pull the panels off and start welding...
23.01.2022 That was the car that the Blue 66 Fastback was modeled off, except for the rear flares of course, the original owner was going to put the white stripes over the car and on the firewall. The new owner didnt. Ol Mate Jerry Choate built this car in his resto shop in Canoga Park California and that year Mrs Blume and i met Edwin ( Jerry) .. That car running used to rattle windows and cause cars alarms to go off... I remember the next years trip to the USA and Jerry said to me will you drive a 65 Fastback to the Long Beach Swap for me, sure, i will drive your restored car for you.. Next morning a 3.30 am we head off, well if you could imagine driving south of the 5 freeway at 80 mph in an Old 65 Mustang, half asleep trying to keep up with these guys is well, memorable... We sure had fun in those days
23.01.2022 The big Jig Saw Puzzle has started... There will be lots of tec screws and bolts before the Mig goes any where near it...:)
22.01.2022 Got the 66 Jigsaw Convertible off the jig... I will bolt it to the rotisserie tomorrow and roll it upside down and finish the underside welds...
22.01.2022 Its looking good now Mrs Blume...:)
21.01.2022 Setting up the AOD Auto Trans up in the 66 Convertible, was able to buy a Trans Crossmember local that save a few hours of fabrication work.. Had to use 65 V8 Engine mounts as the 66 V8 ones were making the trans crooked in the tunnel.. Hand Brake is next..
20.01.2022 The ol Blue 66 Fastback came back for an Engineers inspection, it was booked for today, but the Engineer couldnt get out of Melbourne.. Not deemed an essential service.. Maybe in another six weeks
19.01.2022 Bit more done on the 66 Jig Saw Puzzle Convertible, pushed and pulled the Rear Quarters to get them to fit better, got the doors hanging, R/Hand Repo 65/6 Doors still have the problem with the latch hole being too high, so luckily its easy to adjust the door pillar catch to suit with an un painted Car...
19.01.2022 Got the Front Carpet, Seats and Door Trims on the 66 Fastback... Still have to find the correct Boss for the Lecarra Steering Wheel.. Will get the owner to sit in the car so i can position the Shelby Bullet Style Door Mirrors in the spot to suits him.. My job is just about done...
19.01.2022 Over 20 year ago l made a sojourn to the USA with Barry Reynolds, an interesting 3 weeks. We mad quite a few purchases on of which Barry acquired, a 1957 Ford C...onvertible. Pictured beside it, Jerry Choate who owned a Mustang restoration business in L.A. Jerry later went on to work for Scott Drake , where he still is employed. See more
18.01.2022 Bit more done on the Jig Saw Puzzle 66 Convertible.. Fitted the Convertible brace behind the Tail Light Panel.. Fitted the Tail Light Panel, Both rear Corners of the Rear Quarters and the L/Hand Quarter Panel End Cap.. The Silver Panels dont come with them, but the Black ones do... Fitted the Original Boot Lid and Rear Quarter Extensions.. Trial fitted the Front Guards... Getting close to lots of Welds time...
18.01.2022 All the Underside welds are done on the 66 Convertible Jig Saw Puzzle.. Will start grinding on Monday... Sure makes it easier to weld with the Car upside down...
18.01.2022 A picture of the Cars bought on the 2000 USA trip the 65 Coupe was full of Second Hand Mustang Bits and was sold to a Local Mate/Customer.. the 64 Fairlane got Sold locally and the 65 Fastback was Sold locally.. Found the 65 Fastback in the LA Times one Saturday and i happened to look in the Vintage Car section and there it was.. That was the year Early Pony Parts was started.. Where did that 20 years go? Its been lots of fun and met many great people... I will be closing that part of my business on June 30th this year.. Thanks to all Parts Customers that have supported me over that period.. Its been a Blast...:)
18.01.2022 Getting a few more things done on the Jigsaw Puzzle 66 Convertible... Got the original sections of the original car back from the blaster, gave them a splash of etch.. Repaired a couple of rusty bits.. She is sorta starting to look like a car now
17.01.2022 Getting a bit more done on the Jigsaw Puzzle 66 Convertible... Those one piece Floors make my job easier...
16.01.2022 Things you see other people do... This story was many years ago, but its a good one to tell on Beer Nights... I had a 65 Fastback Body fitted with a full Art Morrison Chassis.. A guy from Queensland bought it off me, so me thinking he was going to turn up with a Car Trailer, i fitted the doors and bootlid back on to the shell.. Then i see a Nissan Urvan drive up my drive with an 8x5 Single Axle Trailer with a Tinny on top... he introduced himself as the buyer and i asked" W...here are you planning on putting the car?" On top of the trailer he said!.. Well the rest is history and i dont think anyone would have believed me unless i took a picture.. So Mustang body and chassis on backwards strapped down on some timber.. Tinny strapped to the side of the Mustang, Doors and Bootlid removed and put inside the Nissan... Surprisingly he got back to Queensland without being pulled over by the RTA... See more
15.01.2022 A few more Tec Screws in the Jig Saw Mustang Convertible today.. I forgot how bad the Repo Convertible Rear Quarters fit to the B Pillar and Sill.. The Red 66 Convertible i was lucky enough to fit a super nice original i kept from another job a few years ago and it fell on.. I also learnt from another you cant have a Repo Quarter on one side and original on the other side of a Convertible as the top curve and peak is different and it stands out like a sore thumb looking from behind on a Convertible..The end of the Sill needs altering as its too short... Fun and Games...
15.01.2022 Well the Blue 66 Fastback has gone... Well for the moment anyway, like all projects there are a few teething problems to sort out.. It looks great but the rear will have to come up an inch.. Its got a full tank of fuel and its a 69 tank so there are a few more pounds over standard there.. Owner said cabin noise was good, exhaust isnt loud.. Slight drive line vibration, another reason to raise the rear.. Got the rim and tyre saga fixed .. It sure looks good though..
14.01.2022 Setting up the RRS Power Steering Pump on the 66 Convertible... Owner supplied a rebuilt late model Windsor and none of the early Windsor Alt Brackets or Power Steer mounts fit.. So ive modified the supplied RRS Power Steer Pump Mount Plates.. I will have to make some spacers and some correct length bolts but it will work...
13.01.2022 My Ol Mate Jerry Choate ( Edwin) is a Movie Star now! Got his face on Counting Cars on 7 Mate today... Looking old Edwin....:) :) :)
12.01.2022 Been busy with Tek Screws and a Tape Measure and two Drills, just waiting on a couple bits of new metal and i will continue... The owner of the 66 Convertible turn up on the Weekend with his recoed 302 Windsor and AOD Auto.. Best place to keep the Engine out of harms way is to plonk it into its spot in the Engine bay... AOD will be test fitted once the Hoist becomes empty..
12.01.2022 State tune for the continuing adventures Huey and Dewy, well Ian and Barry. On the same trip to the USA, l purchased this 1970 Boss 302 from Melrose Place i...n Hollywood. Barry , after a long day looking for cars, noticed in one of the Car Sales magazines a 1970 Boss 302 for sale. l rang the phone number and it was just about to ring out when a guy answered the phone. He had forgotten to turn his answering machine on and l was the first caller. We screamed down to the address in Rays little Honda at a million miles an hour. We found the address and were taken around the back where sat a lonely looking Pastel Blue Boss 302. A deal was made with the owner, Guy Zeidler and we loaded it on the trailer and off we went. l have had this car since then and have restored it , it is about 90% finished .When the car arrived back in Australia, l was all excited, but was devastated when the Boss 302 engine that was shipped with it was missing. My heart sank and my blood pressure rose dramatically, until the truth was unfolded. Guess Who was the main instigator behind that trick, yes, Mr Reynolds. See more
12.01.2022 Its been awhile since ive put any pics up .. Just an update on the 66 Convertible.. AOD Trans selector was changed.. Kick Down Cable set up.. C4 Trans lines modified to suit the AOD.. 11.01.2022 On the down hill run now for the 66 Mustang Jig Saw Convertible.Dash is welded back in and surprisingly fitted the opening, done the XA/B Falcon Brake Booster Conversion for it. Its on Wheels now and apart from a few things to button up, she pretty much is done...
11.01.2022 A Friend and Great customer of mine has his 66 Mustang GT Coupe For Sale... I sold him the Car and Converted it to RHD back in 2002.. Lots of genuine Ford and NOS parts were used in its restoration.. You couldnt build the car for his asking price nowadays..
10.01.2022 Just about to start to re body this Rusty Convertible... All the lower parts will be new.. Sent the parts im re using from the original car to the Blaster.. Re setting the jig after i lent it last year and also starting back on the other Fastback i have here... Will be busy drilling holes for plug welds ...
10.01.2022 A fun thing to do on a Saturday arvo.... Fitted the Fold Down Rear Seat to the 66 Fastback...
09.01.2022 A few Cars that i brought on the 1999 USA trip with Mrs Blume.. He was my Bitch for three weeks getting me Rocky Road Ice Cream and Coffees when requested.. Some i cut cut up for parts i needed for jobs and brought back to Oz.. The 68 Coupe was cut up.. The 66 Coupe was cut up.. The 57 Convertible came back to Oz and was sold to a guy in Qld.. The 65 Fastback came back to Oz and was sold to guy in WA.. The Boss pictured at Longlea was in the same yard and bought in 2000... Those were the days....:)
09.01.2022 Gees, Three weeks into February and i haven't put a post up since Xmas... Well done some more work on the 66 Convertible.. Converted the original Mustang Heater to suit RHD.. Made a Coupe Rear Seat Base into a Convertible one as the originals frame and springs were badly rusted. The original Seat Back only need a few repairs to the bottom after i got the frames blasted.. Moved the A/C Pump mounts to line up with the Clevo pullies ive used as the motor was supplied with none.. Mounted the Underdash A/C Unit. Next week i will be getting more done on the 66 Fastback...
08.01.2022 Getting a bit done on the Jig Saw Puzzle 66 Convertible.. Most of the top side welding is done.. Altered the Wiper Panel with the 66 openings off the original Car as the Repo Panel is a 65 pressing that use different Wiper Towers.. Gave the lower Plenum a coat of white and its ready to weld on.. Got to weld on the Rear Quarters and it can come of the jig...
08.01.2022 As in previous posts, l have said that Barry and l were on the hunt for Mustangs and parts to bring back to Australia. Barry purchased a number of items out ...of the holding yard owned by Jerry Choate. Pictured here are this Ford Ranchero and early Fastback.Pictured is the Ranchero first into the container loaded with goodies. The Fastback was bought and restored by a friend of mine on Western Australia and drove it across to The National Mustang Concourse in Bendigo. You learn to make the most of every bit of space when loading, as to make the exercise worth while. l purchased a 1968 Mustang Convertible and a 1965 Mustang Convertible from Bo Chung who had had a Mustang Business in Van Nuys Boulevard ( famous for American Graffiti ).
07.01.2022 Just a reminder to Box at Easter...:)
07.01.2022 I wish all my loyal Customers and Friends the Best Christmas after this tough year and lets hope 2021 is a Great Year... FG.. :) :)
06.01.2022 Exhaust is done on the 66 Convertible.. The Engineer turned up this week and looked at the Convertible and the Blue 66 Fastback... The Fastback has to be raised to get 4 inches of clearance underneath, but that's about it.. The Convertible..... Needs retractable seat belts front and rear... Coil over rear suspension change back to leaf spring just for rego purposes and gotta measure the brake pedal travel... I know the XA/B system works on Wilwood Calipers but i have to prove it.. Joys of building cars :)
06.01.2022 Got the Park /Hand brake done.. I used a Wilwood Cable kit and to get clearance around the Tailshaft i used a 65 Cable link.. Going to fit a brake bias valve next for the rear discs.. Time to get a Tailshaft made..
05.01.2022 Got all the Welds ground that needed to be on the Jig Saw Puzzle 66 Convertible yesterday... Gave the underneath and inside floor a coat of Red Oxide today... Stone Guard the underneath tomorrow...
03.01.2022 Fitted the Outside Mirrors to the 66 Fastback... Gary came back and gassed up the A/C and wired up the Speedo sensor and the hidden Aerial.. Thanks again for the great Auto Electrical work.. The owner took it for its first outing under its own power to the servo, apart from the rubbing rear tyres, he was happy.. Got some rims coming this week with a bigger back space so that will cure that problem.. The correct Steering Wheel boss has been ordered and the flat centre caps for the Whees..
02.01.2022 As l mentioned, around 20 years ago l journeyed to the USA. Here is a photo taken a Pomona Swap Meet, the unmistakable figure of Barry standing between , his long lost brother on the left and a friend, Ray on the right.
02.01.2022 Found an old picture of the 66 GT Coupe before it was started.. I found that car online and i cant remember if it was the Recycler or Car trader websites.. Long time ago.. The Coupe was owned by a Woman from Pleasanton California and one time after i bought it she said to me to you want to buy Dads ol Pickup.. I said sure and it was my lucky day once some pics were sent to me.. A one owner 56 F100 Big Back Window Short Bed Pick Up.. I was heading to the USA a few months later for my yearly Parts and Mustang Cut Up trip, so i picked the Truck up myself... Those were the days....:)
