16.01.2022 How to help yourself manage pain and injury This is the most widely used infographic in Explain Pain the twin peaks model below. Its no use just looking at it, get out and live it - and in particular, reflect on how we usually overprotect after injury, the buffer we make between tissue damage and pain production and how hard it is to damage tissues with such a powerful protective system. Movement into the edge of that protective range and then nibbling away at it, quietly pushing further and regaining movement and strength is your path to recovery.

16.01.2022 Come in and see us to utilise your private health insurance, before the end of the year, and feel fabulous for 2020

12.01.2022 Its another hot January in Melbourne and the Australian Open is in full swing. The only thing that comes with this are the wretched seats, and if you struggle with low back pain this can become a real problem. We have put together 5 top tips to help you survive the tennis, even with your low back pain: Lumbar support Although not as good as a comfy ergonomic chair, a rolled-up jumper may provide a good alternative.... Steps: - Roll a jacket into the shape of a cylinder - Find the curve in your low back - Slide your bottom to the back of the seat and place jacket in the curve of your lower back Stand often and move A change in position/position and posture may help to provide good temporary relief from the stiff and tight feeling of sitting for minutes to hours. During a break in games or sets, use this opportunity to stand and march on the spot to increase movement at you low back. Postural corrective techniques While sitting our backs often fall into a lumbar flexion position. A great way to counter this is moving into extension. During the Stand and Move part of your tennis protocol, try some standing back bends, with your hands on your hips Pelvic tilts Having good control between your low back (lumbar spine) and your pelvis can be an important part of managing your LBP. A pelvic tilt occurs in three main directions; anterior, posterior and neutral. This can be performed while sitting, standing or lying down; and taking your pelvic into anterior and posterior tilts. Tips for posterior tilt Try to tuck your pelvis underneath (tuck your bum under). Flatten the bottom of your lower back. Face your pubic bone to the ceiling. Tips for anterior tilt Arch just the lower part of your spine. Make your bottom stick out. Face your pubic bone to the ground. Preparation for prevention One of the biggest tools is making sure your back is in the best possible condition ahead of attending the tennis. A tip is to follow all your physiotherapist guided exercises prior to ensure mobility and strength is at an optimum while enjoying the match.
