24.01.2022 Time to prep your soil and pop in some seeds for spring harvesting- fresh homegrown cucumber and zucchini are delicious, you know how it has been grown and what is in the soil, not to mention the satisfaction of growing and cultivating your own veg! It can be as simple as having a few small pots with herbs at your front or back door (or sun-shiny windowsill) to pick and put in your cooking- basil, chives, coriander, mint, oregano, parsley, sage and thyme are ready to go in now. 22.01.2022 Going c-c-c-crazy for Pip's 'Seedy chia coconut crackers'! My first attempt at crackers and luckily in Monday madness Mallee is mad for them. They're so quick and easy to make. It was something new for me so I kept putting it off..but I was so keen to stop buying them, knowing homemade crackers burst with nutritional value and nourish growing bodies! Coconut flour and chia are excellent sources of protein and fibre. Tahini has healthy fats and calcium. Sunflower, pepita and ...flax seeds are good sources of essential fats, proteins, fibre and are packed with vitamins and minerals. Fun whole food fact: Soaking seeds and nuts overnight enhances the bioavailability of their nutrients- it mimics what nature does perfectly when it rains! Soaking makes them easier to digest and increases nutrient absorption, also giving them a 'softer' taste- great in salads, stir fry's, muesli etc..

18.01.2022 Unexpected rest day for Mallee today, after so many months of outdoors action means slow time in the home to boost the immune system- essential oils, juicing, probiotics Slow cooking chicken & veg- so versatile.. use the bone broth, make a soup, roast the chicken, make more bone broth Such high nutrient value & throw in whatever suits. Simple wholesome easy cooking #nourishingtraditions #simplemeals

11.01.2022 Homemade HUMMUS Full of protein and fibre! It's so easy to whip up and you can make your own spin on it- garlic, caremalised onion, paprika for example.. Chick peas can lower cholesterol, are full of calcium and iron and lemon juice is high in antioxidants and vitamin C. You can also use it as a substitute for sandwich/wrap spreads and salad dressing or mayo (just water it down with water, vinegar or kombucha). No nasties, no numbers, nothing processed! Easy as chick peas, tahini, extra virgin olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, paprika, cumin, cinnamon, water- all whizzed in a blender, food processor or thermomix! You can order organic chick peas, tahini and herbs/spices through EP Wholefoods or get SA chick peas from Mallala through Annette at her stall on Western Approach Rd, Port Lincoln!
