24.01.2022 October 26th is Intersex Awareness day, we are celebrating #intersexawarenessday at Equal Ground and all the wonderful intersex people who make up and contribute to our community. Intersex refers to variation in physical sex characteristics beyond what is considered the medical norms for male and female bodies. Intersex people still today experience body shaming, stigma and violations of their human rights and bodily integrity through non-consensual medical interventi...ons. Despite this, intersex people and organisations like Intersex Human Rights Australia have led the charge to champion their human rights and autonomy and engage with decision-makers to improve the lives of intersex people now and into the future. For more information on this and the work done by Intersex Human Rights Australia and other organisations, check out and affirm the Darlington Statement here: https://ihra.org.au/darlington-statement/ To learn more and read IHRA's wonderful #iad2020 post, click here: https://ihra.org.au/36655/intersex-awareness-day-2020/ #iad2020 #lgbtqia #weareCBR We acknowledge that the work of Equal Ground is undertaken on the lands of the Traditional Custodians of the ACT, the Ngunnawal people. We acknowledge their continuing culture and the contributions they make to our community and pay our respect to elders past, present, and emerging.
