25.01.2022 "Veterinarians and scientists have long suspected a relationship between transport and gastric ulceration in horses, but until recently little data existed to s...upport this association." 24.01.2022 Healthy hooves are essential to your horse's comfort and ride-ability. And while farrier care and good husbandry are important, it’s a myth that they're the only source for quality hoof care. Nutrition is also a critical component to #hoofhealth. #MondayMyth https://qoo.ly/38ag6x

24.01.2022 POOR PERFORMANCE AND GUT HEALTH At Valley Equine Vet Centre we regularly have horses booked in for gastrointestinal health consults where the ONLY complaint is ...poor performance, for example, an unwillingness to go forward at times or resenting certain transitions. These horses do not present showing any overt signs of gut pain or gastric ulceration, they are eating well and maintaining weight/condition hasnt necessarily been a problem. Many have already had extensive, expensive and frustrating lameness work-ups to investigate their poor performance issues without result. They have also seen the chiropractor, the physio and have had countless massages, all of which have sometimes helped for a while, but havent resolved the underlying reason for their back and/or muscle pain. These owners are usually at their wits end and most of the time they are getting their horses gut health evaluated as a last ditch attempt to find some answers because they genuinely dont feel that gastrointestinal problems fit the bill and are not really expecting to find anything. Here are 3 examples of what we have found in horses we have seen for gastrointestinal health consults in the last couple of weeks where the sole complaint has been poor performance. HORSE 1. A standardbred racehorse who began underperforming at the track several weeks ago. Our vet nurse Tam knows the horse well and due to past experience with other racehorses we have seen with the same problem she suspected a gastric impaction so recommended a gastroscope. He finally came in last week and he did indeed have a gastric impaction which is likely to have started due to dehydration, and which has now been fully resolved with the help of coke drenches. He also had significant ulceration of the squamous mucosa as well as pyloric lesions, and is currently having a break while we get the rest of his stomach fixed. HORSE 2: A 12 year old gelding who does a bit of low level dressage and who has helped his owner deal with getting over some significant health problems of her own. He had absolutely no issues with his appetite or weight, and the only thing his owner felt wasnt right was that he would occasionally not want to go forward. She felt there had to be a reason for his reluctance despite the fact that nobody else thought her horse could possibly have anything wrong with his gut health and told her she was mad to be taking him to see a vet about this. This horse ended up having a multitude of problems starting with a relatively small gastric impaction which is probably linked to a recent hay change. He also had nasty ulcers around the lesser curvature of his stomach which were likely secondary to the gastric impaction, and last but not least an abdominal x-ray showed that he had a belly full of sand. He is now impaction and sand free, and is on treatment for his ulcers. HORSE 3: A 12 year mare who competes at a high level in dressage and who was demonstrating a reluctance to go forward and some resentment during transitions, especially going into canter. She eats normally, maintains her weight/condition and has a good coat. Her owner has put a lot of time and effort into trying to get her right and has previously had her worked up extensively for lameness, but nothing she has tried has helped. A gastroscope revealed that she was riddled with gastric ulcers, and probably has been for a very long time. She will feel like a new horse once her stomach is fixed and she is pain-free, and we are hopeful that this will also resolve the poor performance issues that her owner has being trying to get to the bottom of for so long. So the take home message is that if you feel you horse isnt right then trust your instincts and get their gastrointestinal health evaluated - you just dont know what you will find unless you look!

23.01.2022 Happy Customer after putting their horse on Succeed Dex was always underweight and cold. He would eat his hay 24 hrs a day and get through a round bale in just over a week. I had to rug him up loads to keep him warm too. I tried so many different feeds to get weight on him and it would cost me over $150 per month and he would not put weight on and have too much energy. Since using succeed he has stopped eating hay 24hrs. He still has access but takes breaks and a round ...bale lasts me 3 weeks. I now only feed 1 dipper lucerne chaff, 1 cup Speedi beet and 1 cup copra. Twice a day. My feed bill is less than $50 per month. He is fat as they come and always warm. Even clipped this year hes not had more than his 100gm rug on. He is relaxed and forward in his work. The money I spend on succeed Ive saved 10 times over in my feed and hay bill as well as time on rugging and I have a happy horse that is now amazing to ride and looks a million dollars. See more

22.01.2022 About six weeks ago I saw Brooke and we discussed a young Off the Track mare that I had. She looked terrible She had had a nice spell but just wasn’t looking great or putting on condition as well as all my others do. We decided to try the Succeed products as we both felt it was an internal problem. I didn’t even take a proper photo of her at her worst because I was actually embarrassed. I’m not into feeding a million supplements, I feed my tbs a very basic feed of chaff ...and pellets and they’re on 24/7 hayrolls. Nelly had 4 weeks on the Succeed products and I’m blown away by her improvement. She had a cotton on for two days- didn’t even have a shampoo, I can’t believe the shine! Thank you Brooke- I think your product speaks for itself. - yes she has her eyes closed in the first pic but the shine she had showed best in that pic See more

15.01.2022 30 Things My Yard Can't Live Without... Something to keep the ball rolling in these odd times . These 30 items will come sporadically over the coming days i...n alphabetical order... 26) SUCCEED DIGESTIVE CONDITIONING PROGRAMME @succeedequine This is the Holy Grail of horse supplements; I could not be more reliant upon or more in love with Succed and what it does for my horses. Succeed is a product that provides natural support for complete health of the horses GI tract... the vital ingredients support and increase healthy cells and enhance both your horses overall well being and their performance. If done right a horse loves his work, however what we ask of them isn't natural and every time a horse is under any form of pressure that our environment may deliver (be it travel, competition or training), the effects will be felt in their gut and as a result, their system will have a variant of malfunctions from the inside out. Horses can often have these issues organically, without human involvement - be it from not efficiently able to absorb the nutrients in their food, to gastric ulcers and to extreme cases of colic. A horse's innards aren't designed well and if we add our life style on top....I'd want to give them all the help I possibly could. Succeed is that package....In order for your horse to be its best on the outside, it must be healthy and functioning properly on the inside. Succeed is my ultimate travel and competition tool.....I double up and feed it both in the a.m and p.m whilst travelling and staying away. This helps dilute the extra stress involved, which is guaranteed for even the most chilled of horses. In the 13 years we have been feeding Succeed we have not had one horse colic and I can count only 2 that have had mild ulcers.....it is magic stuff and worth every single penny, it has kept all ours so incredibly healthy for so long.....we owe a lot to Succeed.

01.01.2022 After realising she wasn’t interested in racing, Nelly started her training and transition from racehorse to competition horse. Going beautifully to begin with, her condition then started to drop off. Going from a racing yard with three hardfeeds a day, to a cruisy paddock life with 24/7 hay and 1 hardfeed a day can really throw their tummies into turmoil. Having a spell now, Nelly is starting on her 30 day treatment plan on Succeed granules and we look forward to seeing her journey.
