23.01.2022 COVID-19 TRAINING DAYS It was a pleasure spending a couple of hours dressage writing this morning at Willow's Leap, nestled in the beautiful Wollombi Valley. Lyndel Taylor and Phil Janson welcomed local riders for a day of dressage, jumping, cross country, action photos and some coaching on a sensation spring day.... Phil and Lyndel are long term eventing volunteers, offering their medicial expertise at many competitions throughout NSW. Phil is also heavily involved in the EA Eventing Medical Consultative Group. Many thanks to the Willow's Leap team for putting on the day. Bruce Farrar

23.01.2022 EQUESTRIAN AUSTRALIA VOLUNTARY ADMINISTRATION Equestrian NSW is pleased to advise that this afternoon, 15 Sept 20, at a Special General Meeting of Equestrian Australia (EA), the motion to accept the proposed amendments to the EA Constitution was passed by the State Branches. As a result, the KordaMentha Deed of Company Arrangement (DOCA) has been satisfied and EA will not be put into liquidation.... Equestrian NSW looks forward to working with our members, our Discipline Committees, the other Branches and the Interim EA Board, in progressing the next stage of EA’s Governance Reform. PETER DINGWALL - Equestrian NSW Board President

22.01.2022 Equestrian NSW is proud to have secured these iconic memories of Australian Olympic glory This is not a story about the powerhouse of NSW Eventing, Shane Rose winning the CCI4*-S at Equestriad on the weekend , but about the riding coat he’s wearing. It belonged to Laurie Morgan, who rode 'Salad Days' to win individual gold and team gold in the Eventing competition at the 1960 Rome Olympics. It recently came up for auction and with the blessing of Laurie’s son Warwick, Equestrian NSW purchased the coat. Laurie’s family also donated his Rome gold medal, a little worn having been through a house fire. The story of Laurie, Neale Lavis (individual silver medallist) and Bill Roycroft (discharging himself from hospital with a broken collarbone to show jump) winning team gold at Rome is legendary.

21.01.2022 WALLABY HILL 3DE MEDICAL COVERAGE EXCELS 1 minute and 6 six seconds was the time taken for the ambulance to arrive on the scene for the most significant fall of the day at the recent Gow-Gates Insurance International 3 Day Event at Wallaby Hill. With Emergency Medicine Specialist, Professor Ian Seppelt, and CRS’s registered paramedic, Ivan Koudashev, attending to the rider, she was also assessed under Equestrian Australia’s concussion protocol and cleared to ride, which she d...id on her subsequent horses, very successfully right into the ribbons. Medical coverage was one of the many successes at Wallaby Hill, the first and foremost being that it was the only CCI4* 3 Day able to run in this very tumultuous year. Accompanying Professor Seppelt was fellow Emergency Medicine Specialist Dr Andrew Chow. Both were fully mobile on the course in all-terrain-vehicles. Registered paramedic Zach Jackson accompanied Ivan Koudashev, aboard the two CRS 4WD ambulances. Pictured is Prof Ian Seppelt and Dr Andrew Chow with Zach Johnson auditing the CRS equipment, which was found to be complete, fit-for-purpose and functioning properly.

20.01.2022 COVID-19 UPDATE The recommendation from NSW Health, that community sporting competitions are ceased, where riders travel from other regions, relies on a definition of regions which we can't provide. There are many different maps, but none are referenced in the advice. In response, please apply common sense to your events, so that only "local" riders attend.

19.01.2022 SIEC ARENAS INVESTIGATION CLOSED WITH NO ADVERSE FINDINGS The NSW Office of Sport has confirmed that the investigation into the tender process for the arena surface upgrades at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre in 2018 is now officially closed, with no adverse findings made. In 2017, the NSW Office of Sport invited Equestrian NSW to draft and present to the then Minister of Sport, Stuart Ayres, a proposal to upgrade the Indoor Arena and Arena 6 at Sydney Internatio...nal Equestrian Centre (SIEC). Both arenas had only minor work on the surfaces since the Sydney Olympics in 2000 and feedback from riders and owners was that improvements were required. The Minister approved the funding and BSM were selected to deliver the Otto Sport solution. When completed in early 2018, the Minister said that the project was a model for how the Government wanted to partner with State Sporting Organisations to deliver facilities across NSW. Feedback from elite Jumping, Dressage and Eventing riders confirmed that the new arena surfaces were world class. In 2019, the NSW Office of Sport commissioned an independent probity investigation into the tender process after receiving complaints about potential conflicts of interest between Equestrian NSW and the company that was awarded the contract to upgrade the arena surfaces. The independent investigation found that government procurement policies were followed with no impropriety identified. Nevertheless, the report was subsequently referred by the NSW Office of Sport to the NSW Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC). ICAC has determined that it will not be investigating the matters raised and Equestrian NSW has now received written confirmation of the finalisation of the investigation from the NSW Office of Sport. This brings the matter officially to a close. Equestrian NSW is committed to delivering positive outcomes for its members and is proud to have been able to partner with the NSW Office of Sport to achieve the significant upgrade of the arena surfaces at SIEC, which benefits both Equestrian NSW members and the wider equestrian community. Over the last three years, there has been overwhelming support from the many user groups for these facilities. The upgrades have meant that facilities can accommodate all disciplines, from major show horse events, to vaulting, to international show jumping, eventing and dressage. The facilities give event organisers more certainty over their ability to host events in all weather conditions as well as attracting large entries, as riders feel confident in the quality of the footing in the arenas. The demand is clearly demonstrated by the numbers of riders competing at events hosted at SIEC. Equestrian NSW looks forward to continuing to work with the Office of Sport to progressively improve the facilities at SIEC and other venues across NSW, for the benefit of all our members.

17.01.2022 COVID-19 UPDATE COACHES On 19 Aug 20, NSW Health recommended that State Sporting Organisations (SSOs) cease community sporting events, where participants were from outside the local region, to help minimise community transmission of COVID-19. Equestrian NSW adopted the NSW Health Local Health Districts as the most appropriate regions. Our Coaches have asked if this restricts their teaching at clinics outside their home region. Equestrian NSW recommends that Coaches can tr...avel to teach, on condition that the group is from the local region. Once again, please apply common sense. Don’t travel and teach if you have any COVID-19 symptoms (eg coughs, headache etc) and make sure that the group or club have a suitable COVID-19 Safety Plan. If you need further details, please contact the Equestrian NSW office on 9620 2660 or email [email protected].

17.01.2022 To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Eventing competition at the Sydney Olympic Games,CrossCountry App have released an exciting digital recreation of the cross country course. Take a tour of the interactive map with Olympians Mary King, Blyth Tait, Stuart Tinney and Amanda Ross who remember their ride and their wonderful horses - and for Stuart Tinney, the Team Gold Medal ceremony. Course designer Mike Etherington-Smith explains how the venue and course came into being o...ver three years. One great thing that has come out of the Sydney Olympics is the legacy of the venue explains Blyth Tait who is now designing courses at Sydney. It is a world class facility which must contribute to the preparation for Australian teams when going overseas. It is such a credit that it is such a great venue twenty years later. The Sydney International Equestrian Centre continues to regularly host eventing competitions where riders from 60cm to 4* can experience the thrill of riding over the same terrain and galloping through the (albeit modified) Olympic water jumps. It has been an engrossing and fun project says CrossCountry App co-Founder Jose Diacono who was herself a volunteer Team Liaison Officer - or Ollie Vollie as they were called. Mike Etherington-Smith, Competition Manager Franz Venhaus and Deputy Competition Manager Vince Roche supplied documents and photographs and many others contributed photos of the competition and fences. The digital course includes the fascinating stories behind the fence names which celebrate the aboriginal heritage and history of the site. The Anniversary Course includes audio extracts from a highly entertaining zoom panel in which Mary King, Blyth Tait, Stuart Tinney and Amanda Ross relived the excitement by watching their rounds with Mike Etherington-Smith. Hosted by former Australian Olympic coach Prue Barrett and Eventing commentator Fiona Hughes of Sit Tight Radio. Find the 20th Anniversary Sydney 2000 course at http://bit.ly/sydney2000xc and on Cross Country App. Listen to the Sit Tight Radio podcast on iTunes. 14.01.2022 On 19 Aug 20, NSW Health updated its Community Sport recommendations https://www.sport.nsw.gov.au//def/files/faqadvicesport.pdf. State Sporting Organisations (SSOs), including Equestrian NSW, were asked to cease activities that result in mixing of participants from different regions, with the region boundaries determined to suit individual sports. Equestrian NSW proposes to adopt the NSW Health regions shown on the link below. There are NSW and Sydney maps with the number ...of COVID-19 cases recorded to date in each region. https://www.health.nsw.gov.au//Pa/recent-case-updates.aspx This is not an exact science, so please apply common sense. The larger rural regions allow longer travel, whereas travel to and from the Greater Sydney regions (eg Western Sydney and South Western Sydney), with larger numbers of COVID-19 cases, carries a much higher risk that could result in community transmission If you need further details, please call the Equestrian NSW office on 9620 2660 or email [email protected]. 12.01.2022 Eventing Cancelled - All Other Disciplines to Go Ahead Saturday is predicted to be up to 41 degrees, so the organising committee has decided to cancel the Schoolies Eventing competition. Horse and rider welfare is our most important concern and the risk of heat stress during competition and travel, when many horses have had limited preparation, is simply too high. Show Horse, Dressage and Jumping will continue as planned and we will monitor the weather forecasts closer to the competitions and keep riders informed. All Eventing entries will be fully refunded. Equestrian NSW appreciates the support of all our riders and parents, Eventing sponsors and volunteers, and look forward to welcoming you again at our NSW Interschool Championships in June 2021.

10.01.2022 Hendra Virus Test Project Update In June 2020, Equestrian NSW contributed $40,000, through Agrifutures, to help the University of Queensland (UQ) develop a rapid Hendra virus test. Here is an update provided by Agrifutures. Following extensive testing, UQ have determined that their point of care HeV test is as sensitive as the current gold standard test offered in a diagnostic laboratory. Quality assurance methods have been implemented to ensure the accuracy of the test and... safety of all operators. A computer-controlled testing unit to maximise safety, accuracy and usability has been developed and is currently being beta tested, with release expected in early 2021. A training module, both video and in person, is also being developed to assist end users. Cost and time to do the test are still work in progress. We are pleased to say we are currently well on track for a planned early to mid-2021 availability of this HeV testing system, available to be used clinically to assist with horse welfare and ensure human safety. 08.01.2022 2020 MEMBER SURVEY Earlier this year Equestrian NSW Members were invited to participate in a survey. 763 Members responded and we thank you for taking part. Presentation is straight out of Survey Monkey and is a bit clunky. The survey was considered by the Board and feedback will be included in plans for 2021 and beyond. Communication, club support, value and bullying on social media were major take-outs. Also, almost 80% of members rated Equestrian NSW at least 7 out ...of 10. https://www.nsw.equestrian.org.au//Member%20Survey%202020%

06.01.2022 MEMBER UPDATE HENDRA VIRUS TEST Equestrian NSW has contributed $40,000 to help develop a rapid point of care Hendra Virus test. We approached Agrifutures, to decide the best project to support. 05.01.2022 TSS FOR HORSE MOVEMENTS Transported Stock Statements (TSS) were introduced by NSW Government Local Land Services in 1990, partly to assist Police to trace stolen stock. Equestrian NSW has been made aware that enforcement of TSS's, to move horses on public roads, has increased in recent times.... Currently, exemptions apply when horses are being transported to or from any agricultural show, exhibition, gymkhana, pony club meeting or similar function. Members feedback is needed about your enforcement experiences, so we can formally apply to have the regulations changed to include more common and low risk movements (eg travelling to get a lesson or exercise your horse). 04.01.2022 MESSAGE TO MEMBERS - EQUESTRIAN AUSTRALIA UPDATE On Friday 19 June 2020, over 1000 creditors, including many members, participated in the First Creditors meeting of Equestrian Australia conducted by the Administrators KordaMentha. Over the past two weeks Equestrian NSW has been in active discussion about what the future structure and governance of Equestrian Australia could look like. To support the consultation process with members and stakeholders, the Branches have estab...lished a governance committee, with Matt Miller as the Independent Chair. Matt was formerly the Chief Executive (NSW Office of Sport), CEO (Sport Australia) and Fair Trading Commissioner (Queensland Government) and is working pro bono. The governance committee will be engaging in extensive member consultation to provide all members and stakeholders with an opportunity to participate in the process of reform, provide feedback and ultimately decide how the sport is shaped into the future. Yesterday, the Branches submitted an Initial Project Plan, https://www.nsw.equestrian.org.au//EA%20Governance%20Refor, to the Administrators, to demonstrate the consultation process that will be undertaken. Equestrian NSW has not formed any particular view about the future structure and governance of EA and at this time our priority is engaging with members and providing you with a voice about what the future should look like. Feedback is welcomed, so please email the office at [email protected]. BRUCE FARRAR Chief Executive Officer See more
