01.01.2022 The cottage was built as one of two garrisons for soldiers on the original track between Swan River Colony (Perth) and King Georges Sound (Albany). It was located near a ford on the Williams River, which can still be seen today. The original settlement was known as "Williamsburgh". Later when the Albany Highway was rerouted the settlement moved to the town of Williams, but the cottage remains as the oldest buiding in the area, and an important piece of Western Australian history.
