17.01.2022 A new study has found that a combination of aerobic exercise and mindfulness training can help reduce fatigue in breast cancer survivors. After going through... rigorous treatments, cancer survivors often experience mental and physical fatigue, anxiety and poor sleep. Other researchers have found that exercise or relaxation can help relieve fatigue, but the new study tested a combination of both. The study included 40 women. The group that took part in a combination of exercise and mindfulness reported a drop in fatigue levels from moderate to mild. This supports the idea that two health behaviour interventions are better than one, and can work just as well, if not better, together. Get support from an Accredited Exercise Professional. They can guide you through an exercise program that is right for you. Find one here: essa.org.au/find-aep #ExerciseRight

15.01.2022 It's Heart Week! Physical activity is an important lifestyle factor to help keep your heart and arteries/veins in good working order. It's also important to reduce time spent sitting. How much do you sit? Can you reduce it? Think of physical activity as an opportunity to improve your health and wellbeing. If you're unsure where to start, get good advice from a qualified health professional #takeastand #heartweek2018 #exerciseismedicine

10.01.2022 With home isolation and working from home, you may be more conscious of structured exercise, completing it via outdoor activities or Telehealth/online. BUT, how is your incidental physical activity fairing? In reality we are more likely to move less when we change our routines or are confined in a curtain environment. Overall levels of physical activity is important for our health, wellbeing and energy expenditure. ... Did you know you will burn 3x the energy if you simply stand instead of sit! (15kcal/hr instead of 5kcal/hour). Things you can do to POWER UP YOUR DAY! - stand up instead of sitting while working from home/computer. Ensure your set-up is ergonomically sound. - take regular rest breaks- at least every 30mins by walking around the house or completing some stretches. Also good for productivity - track your steps using a pedometer, your smart phone or fitness watch. This way you can see how much physical activity you are getting throughout the day. Aim for around 10,000 steps or more. - schedule reminders to get up and move about. It’s easy to get caught up in the work and before you know it you’ve been sitting for 2 hours! - don’t forget the kids! Encourage them to move as much as possible. Make it a family occasion. Remember- bodies were made to move and the mind with also thank you for it!

09.01.2022 Simple advice to reduce exposure to smoke. Also, outdoor exercise can be substituted with indoor exercise while there is smoke in the air. Stay safe.
