25.01.2022 HAPPY EASTER!!!! Hope everyone had a fantastic Easter weekend!!

25.01.2022 Cisco’s Trim before and after

24.01.2022 Seedy Toe photos taken 4 months apart

24.01.2022 Rehabilitation Trims Top - Standardbred recently out of shoes. With regular trimming this horse will increase dorsal wall and sole density, while improving blood circulation and dissipation of concusion through the caudal hoof. Bottom - Mare that has not been trimmed before the age of 5 years old. Regular trimming will allow this hoof to shorten in the toe over time, as the lack of trimming has caused the hoof to be run forward. Due to the Mare being high in the heels, the frog and caudal hoof has not been able to function to absorb concussion, resulting in atrophy. Regular trimming will allow the frog and caudal hoof to start working more and grow. Allowing for better dissipation of concussion and preventing the concussion from traveling further into bones, joints and tendons.

23.01.2022 It has taken a long time for the Certificate to be finalized and arrive in the mail since finishing the diploma, but it was extremely rewarding to unrap the framed certificate! Many clients who have learnt to trim there own horses have asked me how I could ever want to work as an Equine Podiotherapist. When I first learnt to trim it was simply so I could trim my own horses. Unfortunately often if you want a job done right, you have to do it yourself. As I started lea...rning more about how the hoof works, I was intrigued and I always wanted to work with these amazing animals. It has been a fantastic journey building this business. I have had the privilege of going to workshops, doing work experience at the Mayfield laminitis rehab, trimming and working with horses in the Northern Territory for the education department, going to Lectures, practicals and doing many fascinating case studies. Working as an Equine Podiotheraperapist, I get to meet heaps of horses, all with their own unique personalities, and often rehabilitate bad quality hooves into amazing, functional hooves. Being an Equine Podiotherapist is an incredibly rewarding job. See more

18.01.2022 Taking RADIOGRAPHS (X-RAYS) When taking radiographs of horses hooves, especially if laminitis is suspected, it is very important to mark the hoof! Hoof markers give a guide and allow for more accuracy when trimming, this is very important for laminitic patients. Always ask your vet to:... Mark the point of frog (this can be done with a drawing pin that has been cut short, to prevent it from entering any sensitive tissue) The hoof wall can also be marked with a chain or similar on its dorsal surface. 17.01.2022 MICROBUG Rapidly Arrest Outbreaks of Invasive Microorganisms MicroBug has the unique ability to DRY and SOOTHE affected areas. Drying out problematic conditions & minor scrapes is crucial in minimising infection and the spread of outbreak. Coconut and essential Clove Bud oils linger to nourish and prevent over-drying. Both these oils are well known for their strong wound healing abilities (antibacterial, anti fungal, anti yeast & anti inflammatory) Coconut oil has been sh...own to stimulate greater collagen matrix and accelerate re-epithelialisation (new tissue). Clove Bud oil is well known for its numbing action, giving relief where pain or discomfort present. It is also a natural insect repellant. Rainscald, Greasy Heel, Ringworm & other similar skin conditions Spray entire area well and leave to self-dry. Continue daily treatment whilst affected area is ‘active’ and for at least a few days after noticeable improvement. If condition re-flares, begin treatment again Thrush Pick out ‘stinky’ hooves daily and spray. Remove horse from wet and/or muddy environments and repeat treatment until thrush (& smell) has resolved. Seedy Toe Once resected (opened up by a professional) MicroBug is excellent for no-fuss, daily maintenance treatments in between trims Minor Cuts, Abrasions and Insect Bites Spray as needed. Do NOT use on deep wounds. Works great on tick bites or where certain insects leave a reaction at site. Has insect repelling properties, however is not an insect repellent product Apply 1-3 times daily or as needed Recommended to use in conjunction with SkinBalm to soften & debride scabs, promote deeper healing, hair regrowth and minimise scarring External use only Do not spray near eyes or onto sensitive areas around the mouth. Should any skin irritation occur, discontinue use and contact us and/or your veterinarian

17.01.2022 Fortify Maintain can be enough to resolve many issues due to such nutritional shortfalls. Fortify Maintain is fed to maintain healthy, biological function Providing nutrients for healthy, biological function commonly deficient in equine diets, often resulting in: poor hoof quality (and growth rates)... poor coat (faded, dull, growth etc) skin problems (conditions, resilience, repair) slow healing wounds problems with connective tissue (tendons, ligaments, joints, cartilage etc.) higher infection risks immune weakness reduced physical performance more No Iron (Commonly excessive in Equine diets) No Copper Sulphate (less bioavailable and can aggravate digestive systems) No need to feed additional sources of Iodine (e.g. iodised salt, seaweed meal)

17.01.2022 Thank you for the lovely comment :-)

16.01.2022 The Importance of Trimming Foals When a horse is young they have growth plates that are open. These open growth plates can be manipulated to correct limb conformation. The start of a horses life determines their future conformation for good or bad. Multiple factors determine when a horses growth plates with close. On average the growth plates close at:... Cofin Bone - End of gestation (pregnancy) Short Pastern - Birth to 6months Long Pastern - 6months to 1year Cannon Bone - 8months to 1.5years Bad limb conformation can result in stresses throughout the horses entire body. Ensuring young horses have good limb conformation will set them up for life.

16.01.2022 Glueing in a pair of the new Scootboot Endurance gaitors and replacing a strap on an old pair of boots. These gaitors are fantastic for horses with sensitive skin, to protect the heels. They also give extra support around the pastern. These boots are for a gorgeous thoroughbred who has extremely sensitive and pink skin around his heels, these gaitors have worked perfectly, preventing any rubbing on his front and hind boots

15.01.2022 Hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas and have a Happy New Year!! Thank you for all your Christmas gifts and chocolates!

15.01.2022 I have started travelling and trimming down south! The Southern Run goes from Lake Grace to Bremer Bay and then via Collie on the way back home. It's for one week every five weeks. The September Run was a fantastic trip, with gorgeous scenery and weather, lovely horses, friendly people and puppies!!

15.01.2022 Happy Birthday Horses!! Today is a perfect excuse to spoil your horses and give them lots of cuddles

13.01.2022 A very interesting read, explaining some of the negative affects of shoes on horses. Metal shoes: Shod horses are unable to absorb concussion through the frog and digital cushion as the frog is off the ground. Instead this concusion travels up the metal shoe, through the hoof wall and into bones, ligament and connective tissues. Metal is rigid, therefore the hoof is unable to flex. This prevents the natural pumping mechanism to circulate blood.... The frog is taken off the ground, preventing it from absorbing concusion and preventing the frog from working as a pump to circulate blood. Like a muscle when the frog is not used it contracts. Toe clips cause stress on crenae, resulting in a constant weak point. Side clips cause bone to regress over time in this area. See more

13.01.2022 An adorable little helper It's so nice to be greeted by a gorgeous fluff ball when arriving at work! This gorgeous puppy was very curious about my tools! Shes going to be a big dog, only 9weeks old at the moment.

12.01.2022 Thanks to TJSigns in Mt Helena for there great work!!

12.01.2022 Separation There are many factors that can cause separation. Often if the trimming cycle is too long it causes separation as the hoof wall is being pulled away from the sole. For horses on a regular trimming cycle the most common cause is a nutritional deficiency. Once a horse with separation has been put on a good supplement you can see improvement in just a couple months. Giving mineral dificient horses a good supplement will also allow them to grow thicker hoof walls an...d soles. Alot can be accomplished with trimming, however if the issue is due to a nutritional deficiency the improvement will be limited until the horses deficiency has been corrected. !!Horses cannot grow healthy hooves without the correct ingredients!!

11.01.2022 Good Afternoon Everyone I have had to register for GST and change the prices accordingly. I hope your all having a great day and I look forward to our next booking! Cheers Lily

11.01.2022 Seedy Toe 3months between photos Seedy toe is a bacteria that will continue to eat away at the hoof wall unless treated. Treatment... Seedy toe bacteria opened up and resected Seedy toe treated daily (MicroBug spray) Regular trimming Balanced diet See more

10.01.2022 Imagine wearing high heels 24/7 for months! Long heels in miniatures causes a huge amount of strain on tendons, and by changing the bony column alignment, causes continual wearing pressure on joints. High heels also takes the frog off the ground, preventing the dissipation of concusion and restricting blood flow. It is extremely important to keep all horses heels maintained to ensure comfort and soundness! Horses can quickly develop hoof issues when not properly maintained! Its alot easier, faster and cheaper to prevent issues instead of fixing them once developed And alot more comfortable for your horse!

08.01.2022 New Scootboots with mud staps fitted

08.01.2022 It's amazing how much horses hooves can change and improve when given the opportunity

08.01.2022 It takes time for hooves to grow, but its great to see the improvements when they grow with regular trimming. This hoof belongs to a lovely thoroughbred who has suffered chronic lameness and had to be in boots 24/7. The coffin bone had been damaged from rotation and he had severe wall separation. The top four pictures are from the first day i was called out to trim him. Due to the length of the hoof wall, the pressure in this area was causing the hoof wall to continue tearing... up, making the separation continually worse. To allow for the hoof wall to reconnect with the lamina, the hoof wall needed to be taken off weight bearing to prevent more tearing. The thoroughbred was also put on a low sugar diet and a nutritional supplement to help improve the strength and quality of the hoof. The bottom three pictures show that although the hoof has not yet had time to grow down completely, the hoof is growing down connected, looks a lot healthier and the gelding is now sound enough to move around the paddock happily without boots.
