20.01.2022 Tilly having a treatment

20.01.2022 So Rippa has been a very sick pony and still is but hopefully on the mend. I have been asked by a few people how he is so I thought those that are interested he...re is what lead to the discovery of Rippas condition. I’m pretty certain that not long after Rippa was broken in and going his personality changed not for the better either he was quite unmanageable. Some of the problems encountered were striking out rushing over the top of most people but me in particular riding he didn’t want to go forward or would ride lovely and then stop. Now I here a lot of people say things like no work ethic, lazy, young, not understanding the list goes on. Well people I’m here to tell you Rippa was a lovely 2 yo when broken my breaker had no issues my first trainer did a lovely job then I started to have issues so I sent him somewhere else for a tune up as you do stronger rider etc while he was there he curb a hock so I assumed his lack of going forward or his lack of work ethic was the pain caused by the curb so rest and shockwave he returned to work 6 months later the problems still existed. So cutting a long story short he came home for more rest then went to Justin Hughes for continued training while there we were still concerned by his lack of forward or his desire to stay in his lovely working trot or his beautiful unmanufactured lope. He was as sound as I had ever seen him there was no unevenness his movement was to die for so why was this horse that looked amazing that wasn’t off his feed (or he’d be dead) not wanting to go forward ??? Justin noticed he liked to pee a lot we’ll try at least always stretching out like he wanted to so we grabbed a urine sample and took it to the vets! Shattered was an understatement the vet was so shocked by just the urine we booked Rippa in for a visit straight away their findings were cystitis of the bladder the vets had actually never seen this condition before and referred the scope and scans to Goulburn valley for a second opinion! So no wonder Rippa has a bad attitude and didn’t want to go forward he had every right to be this way the condition is extremely painful causes colic in some cases and can cause death if not detected and his case was chronic see photos below. So he has just had a follow up scan and scope and has been on antibiotics for 1 month he has another month of these he has improved but not as much as we would of hoped but only time will tell. His attitude has improved beyond compare to the horse he was I can’t believe it’s the same horse he now lies down which he use to do lots of but stopped. In fact after 24 hours on the antibiotics and colic pain relief he almost slept 24 hours. So the moral of the tale if you know something is wrong listen to your gut look for the little signs that others might miss. No one could have guessed this was wrong but all the signs of an un happy horse were there I just couldn’t put my finger on it!! Here are some photos never once did he go off his feed or look sick his coat was always a question and he had some spinal processes up in his back which I treated with shockwave but these were infact from straining to pee !! So I seen many signs but never knew about this condition until now. He has had a rapid diet change as well. I hope my story opens your eyes to your own horses sole I hated Rippa because he use to be the worse behaved even dangerous with me but I now know he was trying to tell those closest to him he felt like absolute shit !! He is a beautiful horse and his eyes tell a thousand stories. I have done some extensive reading on cystitis and mares suffer more than geldings so if you can get a urine sample pop it to the vets it’s a cheap test to see how your PH reads and if there is any blood in the urine. First 3 are first scope the last 2 are second scope Rippa when he first came home and yesterday

18.01.2022 Here is Gerrys story in brief as it’s quite a long story over many years but I’m going to sum it up as best I can ! I met Gerry maybe 2 yrs ago to treat hind s...uspensory issues back then I didn’t like the way his near side hind circumducted I suggested back then maybe after treating his suspensory if there was still an issue a suggestion to the vet might be in order ! After months of investing work from X-rays to scintigraphy to being told it was neurological to C6C7 malformation to everything else but his stifle his owner retired Gerry to the paddock heartbroken and financially a lot lighter than she started. I went back a few weeks ago to treat one of her other horses and asked how the beautiful big fella was coping with life in the paddock she said fine still comes in every night rugs feed the whole shouting match. Life for Gerry could have been very different had he not had the most beautiful owner in Anthea. I’m sure his life could of ended very differently. Let’s face it horses are expensive and the thousands already spent on Gerry now to have him as just a pretty paddock ornament is a cost in its self. So whilst I was already there I suggested how about I use Gerry as a case study we have nothing to loose and maybe everything to gain. All the study I have done on stifles having had my own chronically lame show horse I just wanted to see if shockwave even though the scintigraphy had not picked up any issues with Gerrys stifle if shockwave would help. I have been doing lots of stifle cases lately with fantastic results ! I believe that the ligaments in the stifle are affected just as it would be with a knee in a person. So it stands to reason that if the ligaments are sore that is why Gerry and all the other horses I have treated along the way respond so well. Creating blood flow and repairing tiny tears in the ligaments and taking the pain away. It’s a win win and certainly has made a difference to Gerry in 2 shockwaves he has now had a third but you can see how relaxed he is in his work and second ride tail and head barely move! We will continue to treat Gerry weekly and will update you with further developments !! Anthea I thought the song could be yours and Gerrys I’m sure he knows how much you love him xx Additional video of Gerry yesterday 2 days after 3rd shockwave

14.01.2022 Abbieys story like so many horses out there

12.01.2022 Your horse is lame, and you’ve narrowed down the problem to his hind end. If you’re like many horse owners, your next thought might be to check his hocks, maybe his fetlocks. But what about his stifles? For many, it’s the forgotten joint, hiding in the shadows of the numerous and often more-familiar hock issues. Yet the stifle is the largest, most complex system of joints in the horse’s body. It’s susceptible to a variety of joint disorders and cumulative wear and tear, as we...Continue reading
