23.01.2022 The hidden calories in flavored coffee... Who would have thought a coffee could be worse for your weight than a maccas quarter pounder? Best coffee when it comes to low kilojoules is a long black... by a long way!... Only 10kj of energy makes it the perfect choice for those who are watching their weight. If the long black taste is too intense, try a dash of milk. You’ll still be chopping out hundreds of calories when compared to a latte or cappuccino. Final tip- enjoy!!!

22.01.2022 A wonderful post from Robyn @gestationaldiabetes_dietitian providing us the nutritional facts on berries!! #Repost @gestationaldiabetes_dietitian with @make_repost BERRY GOOD ... Whether it's raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, strawberries or cranberries, berries are all little bullets of health, with various special talents! TOP TEN FACTS ABOUT BERRIES: 1 NUTRIENT RICH : Lots of vitamin C and antioxidants which support immunity, heart and brain health. BLUEBERRIES are the king of antioxidants with their anthocyanins and flavanols. 2 LOW CARB : Containing only 8-14 g carb/100g they are great for helping keep the meal or snack carb load in check and blood glucose levels (BGLs) within range. STRAWBERRIES have the lowest carb at 8g/100g. 3 LOW GI: They are all low GI ( GI < 55) which means they won't lead to a spike in your BGLs. BLACKBERRIES have the lowest Gl at only 25. 4 LOW CALORIE: Only about 30-60 cals/ 100g. STRAWBERRIES win the lowest calorie content prize too. 5 HIGH FIBRE: They are a fibre source with 2 to 7g/100g. RASPBERRIES take out the highest fibre award with 7 g/100g. 6 LOW FAT: They all have less than 1 g fat/ 100 g. 7 SPECIAL PROPERTIES: A unique phytonutrient in CRANBERRIES called A type- proanthocyanidin can help prevent urinary tract infections - bonus points! 8 CONVENIENT TO USE: All berries can be easily added to dishes for extra nutrition & flavour: Top your cereal at brekkie. Mix with a yoghurt pot at snack time. Add to fruit smoothies. Sprinkle dried cranberries on salads. Blend into a coulis to top your oats. 9 FRESH & FROZEN OPTIONS: Buy fresh berries when they are in season as they are cheaper and taste better eg STRAWBERRIES are plentiful in Spring.& BLUEBERRIES come in at the end of November. However when not in season, frozen berry options are a great alternative. Look for Australian grown brands. DELICIOUS! Raspberries are my favourite. BOTTOMLINE: Berries are an excellent choice of fruit to include in your healthy eating plan for gestational diabetes. They are low GI, nutritious, tasty & versatile in recipes. Which berries are your favourite?
