21.01.2022 Mindfulness and the Equestrian. In a time where busy lives, schedules, competitions and social engagements take over. We as riders can often neglect to take time to refocus and prioritise ourselves. We are well aware of the success, stress, demands and exhaustion we place upon ourselves to succeed but we must have an awareness of how to effectively manage these factors. To prevent further mental anguish and mental health implications which can later act as a riders biggest d...Continue reading

21.01.2022 So after PhysioTom - Equine Performance Physio ‘s brilliant post last week on education and accountability of equine professionals I am climbing up on the soap box next to him. So often I see posts on social media asking for equine physiotherapist recommendations and the number of physios that respond is staggering. However if you examined their credentials would they fit the qualification standards of an Equine Physiotherapist? ... Do you know what qualifications are needed? Physiotherapists working with equines have undertaken additional animal physiotherapy post-graduate training and hold MSc or Post-Graduate Diplomas in Animal/Veterinary Physiotherapy. As Physiotherapists we adhere to strict codes of clinical practice as outlined by the Australian Physiotherapy Association and the Australian Veterinary Association and are properly registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). You as a client have every right to ask a physio what formal qualifications they have and what specific training they have undertaken before making an appointment or moving forward with treatment. So much like the no hat, no play rule...no qualifications, no touchy rule should apply to your horses. Choose your equine therapist wisely and don’t be concerned about contacting the relevant body to check their qualifications! #EquisioPhysio #Physiotherapy #Qualifications #Practitioners #Physiotherapists #Animals #Equines #Dressage #Eventing #Showing #ShowJumping #Racing @burwoodeventing @physio_tom @superhorsephysio Crown Equine Veterinary Services @racingvictoria Equestrian Australia Horse Gym Australia @lynneHarrison

18.01.2022 The Homes & Acreage 2021 Boneo Park Summer Dressage Championship was yet another super competition so a huge thank you goes to the committee and all those working behind the scenes. As always the Equisio Team did not disappoint racking up some brilliant scores, performances and ribbons! Here goes the run down!... Rebecca Haythorpe & Diamond Park Rose: This beautiful duo strutted their stuff in the Medium Championship coming home with 5th place! Well done girls what a fantastic effort we love seeing you dance together. Hannah Shippen & Yarramee B Bear: This young rider rode her way into the ribbons in the advanced classes (5th in 5c & 4th in 5B) this weekend. With respectable scores, a big smile on her face and lots of pats for her dancing partner she sure looked like she had a blast! @Jane Gordon & Freedom R: Well this team looked like they had a ball this weekend! Freida put her best foot forward for Jane contributing to not only awesome scores but the title of Reserve Champions of the Antares Australia Advanced Championship. It is always a pleasure to watch you both accomplish new goals! As always a huge thank you to all my fantastic owners, riders, parents and of course horses for letting me apart of your journeys. I feel incredibly privileged to be a part of your teams. #EquisioPhysio #EquinePhysio #RiderPhysio #Horse&Rider #Dressage #SummerChampionship #Equestrian #TeamEqusio

16.01.2022 Is this where you want to be? With an incredible team?

16.01.2022 Hills Hills Hills, they’re not just for eventers. Often the look of pure horror on a riders face is quite comical when I advise them to begin hill work with their horse. Often I get the response we’re not eventers but little did they know that hill work is beneficial across all disciplines. So in short here’s what it does:... - Boosts cardiovascular fitness - Increases musculoskeletal strength and conditioning (GIVES YOUR HORSE A BUM!!) - Improves horses proprioception (balance and body awareness) In varying the work load in any discipline it is beneficial to both the horse and the rider. Proprioceptors are embedded in the muscle fibres at the junction of muscles and tendons and also within the joint capsules. These give the horse continuous information about his limb position and joint movement, which is essential for joint stability and the performance of complex movements. By working routinely on a consistent surface, for instance and arena that is perfectly graded with the correct amount of surface blah blah blahthere is little to no variability in footfall for your horse.. Therefore, in using differing terrains and inclines this can assist in improving and amplifying a horses awareness and proprioceptive control of his/her body as a whole. So for dressage this may lead to more accurate canter pirouettes, in show jumping an increase capability to work in a relaxed posture on the contact whilst strengthening over their back, and neck whilst globally improving topline or simply to be able to turn on a six pence accurately. When may hill work not be appropriate Ms Physio? In some cases tendon and ligament injuries, of the hindlimbs, these can be caused or aggravated by pushing too hard up a steep gradient. An inconsistent surface can also contribute to the risk of these injuries. Moreover hill work may not be appropriate for horses with the following injuries or issues, if any of the following resonate with you it is essential you obtain veterinary clearance before beginning your hill work. - Sacroiliac pain (may be aggravated by going up or down steep hills, so a gentle incline is better for training horses with this condition). - Lower back pain - Acute tendon or ligament injuries. All in all hills for everyone!! As always send us a DM if you have questions! 13.01.2022 I SPOKE TO YOU IN WHISPERS By Neil Andrew I spoke to you in whispers... As shells made the ground beneath us quake We both trembled in that crater A toxic muddy bloody lake I spoke to you and pulled your ears To try and quell your fearful eye As bullets whizzed through the raindrops And we watched the men around us die I spoke to you in stable tones A quiet tranquil voice At least I volunteered to fight You didn't get to make the choice I spoke to you of old times Perhaps you went before the plough And pulled the haycart from the meadow Far from where we're dying now I spoke to you of grooming Of when the ploughman made you shine Not the shrapnel wounds and bleeding flanks Mane filled with mud and wire and grime I spoke to you of courage As gas filled the Flanders air Watched you struggle in the mud Harness acting like a snare I spoke to you of peaceful fields Grazing beneath a setting sun Time to rest your torn and tired body Your working day is done I spoke to you of promises If from this maelstrom I survive By pen and prose and poetry I'll keep your sacrifice alive I spoke to you of legacy For when this hellish time is through All those who hauled or charged or carried Will be regarded heroes too I spoke to you in dulcet tones Your eye told me you understood As I squeezed my trigger to bring you peace The the only way I could And I spoke to you in whispers......
