23.01.2022 Proud moments in a trainers life! :-) This combination of athletes, Ellie White & "Oldfield Descender" - "Ash" (Image) produced a clear round in the 1,0 m (warm up ;-) ) - "WON" the 1,20 m class (Jump off 7 obstacles at 1,30 m) "ALL CLEAR !" yesterday at the "Jump Day" Sunshine Coast Showjumping and Equestrian Club. This combination has only been together for 18 month and Ellie just turned 14 last month! Congratulations for this amazing achievement to both! On top of it Elli...e produced 2 clear rounds at 50 & 80 cm with "Rakiti" (first time ridden on the day!), the horse of a very nice lady called "Irene". With her "greenest" horse, "Flying Unicorn" - "Fly" she also produced 2 great rounds (one refusal) at 70 & 80 cm (1 rail) on their very first outing! "Fly" never did more then two jumps in a row before and had never seen a jumping ring! On the other hand he has seen many big stadiums, among them the famous Sha Tin Racecourse where he won most of his stake money of $ 5023450 !!! "WHAT A DAY OF JOY" for all....! 21.01.2022 "In hand training" - As horse appropriate as it gets! As the second basic tool your most suitable training environment is; "The SQUARE-Yard"! ;-) Yes, you read and see (images below) correct, its most definitely "NOT" a round yard!!! :-) The classical "Picadero" (Rididng School) used by the spanish masters ever since they trained with horses is, and has always been, a square-yard with a diameter of 12.60 m. This is the ideal measurement for the Spanish horses. With our tal...ler breeds, Thoroughbreds, Warmbloods and heavy breeds it is recommended to build it slightly larger, but 15 m should not be exceeded. There are to many benefits to be mentioned at this stage, so I leave this topic for today with a simple exercise for yourself: next time when you are in the water, "keep swimming in a fairly tight circle (5 m or so) for some time and increase the speed gradually....!" You will be amazed how uncomfortable it is to keep this position....! Now try to relax and in particular to breathe deep and freely.....! Good luck with this.....! ;-) This gives you a glimpse of a horses feeling consistently kept bent in a circular motion, being asked to go through the paces and stay relaxed at the same time...! You always need something to look forward to, and even more importantly: Keep your partners, relatives and friends in mind, they like choices when they spend all their money on us and our biggest love...!!! Irony: "Keep dreaming, you never now, and there is always hope (in this scenario thats included in the dreaming!)....!!! ;-)

19.01.2022 Another area of great support of training in the "Picadero" is shown here, Ellie White riding "Agadoo" bare back for the first time. Also no bit, just reins attached to the lunging cavesson. A very new situation of power for this energetic youngster, he knows to well that he enjoys more freedom then usual! I give Ellie control and command support on the ground, manly creating the paces, rhythms and transitions. And again the corners are an enormous tool of support! This phase... of training we use to fine tune a combination. The rider can minimize all the aids and entirely focus on his structure of timing and form of application for all of them under any scenario. Nothing to worry about the horses reactions as I keep things under control from the ground. Again, completely horse appropriate, predominantly using the horses instinctive reactions. 17.01.2022 Another "Success Story" of this great combination: Ellie White & "Ash" - Placing equal 3rd at their "first ever" Junior 6 Bar Jumping Competition at the Gympie Show last NIGHT! Taking home another nice "$$.$$ cheque" as a well deserved reward! The ascending row of jumps ended with a height of 1.30 m at the last in the 3rd round! Congratulations to the team & in particular Brad White also for his constant support - in pic. 3 talking to a fellow competitors Chloe Taylor, mum, Chantelle Taylor.

14.01.2022 After all the so much needed rain, "Destinys" training program started today! :-) "Leading Lane" and "Picadero" in place, first session done! 07.01.2022 Over 200 young competitors showing their best at this magnificent event! The future champions were on display! One of my students Ellie White on her lovely mount "Ash" (Oldfield Descender) , had 2 great clear rounds in the World Cup Event today, what a stunning performance! Her ever so supporting dad Brad White (her biggest fan) and I are very proud of them! ;-)

03.01.2022 Ok, Ive decided to tackle this one; "In hand training" - as horse appropriate as it gets! Before we start to look at exercising, the correct, most supportive tools are required. A properly designed "cavesson", as shown in the images on "Agadoo" will allow to prepare the horse to feel the applied "aids" in a correct manner! The trainer requires "feeling" as any contact will be transmitted straight to the "bridge of the nose". In return this allows a precise preparation of the horse to get lead direction and pre-bend action through the appropriate contact points. In the process of getting the horse started under saddle a bit as well as reins can be attached without the need to change to a different bridle. In the next post we will have a look at the best suitable environment to perform "in hand exercises"! Stay tuned..... ;-)

01.01.2022 Basic exercises with the horse on the lunge in the "Picadero". Here I demonstrate the advantage of the (square) picadero. The horse travels straight, bending around the corner and straighten again! This has gymnasticising qualities allowing the horse to flex and release in a repetitive manner. The corners also give great control support and allow the horse to judge its track in a relaxed way. The communication scheme I use is completely horse orientated, containing about 25 b...asic elements and eventually blending into a fluent language of about 40 elements. Horse appropriate in hand training respects the "active living space" of each other, has a correct chronological flow in the application of signals and aids, is entirely based on the blending into the horses own abilities. It is the trainers responsibility to know how to get the horse to perform in a free manner with the least possible interference! As the knowledgeable horse trainer knows; "The horse has it all inside itself, the art is to release it!"
