24.01.2022 Rushing in and out of the gate? Horses that push through as soon as the gate is open, have simply learnt that the opening gate is a signal to walk through. It's quite clear to them. The problem is, it can get frustrating when they start rushing through before we're ready, they become 'bargy', or we don't want them out of the gate etc etc...... Ways to help: Practice park away from the gate - horse stands immobile until you signal otherwise Park in front of the gate and open and close it Always signal go forward, rather than letting the horse follow your feet Slow or stop any rushing through the gate Being consistent - expecting the same response every time you are at the gate

22.01.2022 Rose: "Feeling a wee bit small....!" Early morning cuddles with these beauties #luckygirl #percheron #percheroncuddles #lovefarmlife

19.01.2022 "...currently in the horse world there are no protections to ensure those teaching lessons, training horses or otherwise educating have the experience and knowledge to do so. This lack of regulation for training and behavioural expertise has resulted in a ton of misinformation being spread for actual decades and now much of said information is being disputed by equine scientists"

19.01.2022 ....What a difference a year makes... Visited the percheron's a year ago today - what a journey of love and learning it's been #grateful #goodthingsfromcovid #lovemyjob

18.01.2022 Our newest member, Billy - a stray who has found luxury living is much more fun. Now we have to convince him walking around during lessons is not the safest for little cat bodies

16.01.2022 Confidence Building So impressed with this rider, Miss E - continuing on with weekly lessons after losing her confidence a while ago. It's paid off! Of course it has helped that Roy has been such a superstar for her. Trained to do higher level dressage, he has no qualms in giving a steady, confidence building lesson for those needing to build up slowly. ... What helped? Weekly lessons - nothing beats consistency A safe, trained horse - knowing you have control, especially to stop or slow Working on a secure position - being able to focus on you, knowing your horse will continue carefully on, even if you move around a little up there Working on breathing exercises - helping to prevent that feeling of anxiety that comes up Changing old habits - it's easy to freeze up when fear kicks in, working on changing old habits to some safe new ones works a treat! On the look-out for another easy-going school pony/horse, preferably 14hh-15hh. Have many riders wanting lessons and Roy can only do so much in a week. Would love to hear from you if you know of any suitable (For lessons on Roy, please give me lots of notice as he gets booked up pretty quick. Such a gorgeous boy for many)

16.01.2022 - sound on for max effect - Back in November, Poppet completely unfazed by the sounds of traffic (gotta love the busy weekends!!). What a temperament! xx

15.01.2022 Our gorgeous Percheron Poppet is for sale. Expected to mature between 16.2-17hh. The most gorgeous temperament -clear to see why SA Police have been using this stud for many years. Poppet loves a scratch, loves company and takes new experiences in her stride. ... Poppet has started her learning journey with Equitation Science principles resulting in a calm, inquisitive youngster who is easy to train. We are in no rush - she will only be sold to the perfect home. Visit our website for more details and to see her journey on the 'Start Them Right' page: www.e-s-c.com.au

12.01.2022 Big thank you to all those who messaged to check in on us yesterday...what a scare! So lucky to have headed to the Mount Barker oval...people coming straight over and checking in on and looked after us and the horses. What super people they all are Of course amazing thanks to the CFS - how they brave that fire front, I do not know Having what I thought was a "good plan" in place this has brought huge reflection for us. Seeing other horses coping and not coping in such stressful environments just brings the importance of training to reality. I have some areas to focus on with the youngsters in my herd but am thankful for the ease of Roy and Fuega (big hugs Nila Latimer and Alex Bader - can't tag you sorry!) Stay safe everyone, still not over

06.01.2022 'Top-up Training' Helping establish some responses from the horse in-between lessons. No point in working without the owner knowing what to do though - consistency has the biggest impact on success or failure. Loving sitting behind these ears while his owner is at work

06.01.2022 Today we waved Miss Poppet off to her lovely new home Sad to say goodbye, but so happy for her new owners and the fun times they have ahead
