23.01.2022 Using combined reinforcement to overcome your horse's aversion to worming pastes. Before we started filming we checked Cosmic still liked carrots and remembered his target training. This is an overview of what might take a few sessions with your horse if they have learned to avoid being pasted. It's a longish video, so grab a cuppa... and happy training!
23.01.2022 Excellent offer. Good luck Sophie :)

21.01.2022 Whistles, clicks, purrs, ‘good boy/girl’ - doesn’t seem to matter. Timing, shaping and reinforcement does. Same goes for your horse. https://www.companionanimalpsychology.com//clicker-trainin
21.01.2022 For clinic attendees, Manu is open to 4 x 3 day clinics in 2020, avoiding winter and summer months. Please comment here if that works for you. Also, first one wouldn't be until late March next year so who might be keen for a two day fix before the end of the year if we can swing it?
21.01.2022 A South Australian first and the website articulates beautifully why the services offered by Pam Reid are integral for horses and our future trainers.
20.01.2022 Did you know you can study equitation science online, with practical support and mentoring in South Australia from ESI Nominated Coach, Nicki Stuart? This testimonial from a UK student gives an insight into the benefits for horse & rider. Watch this space for the roll out of an education program at Kersbrook Equestrian Centre this Spring, which will cover all facets of horse keeping and training and incorporate equitation science. Happy training!

20.01.2022 Only a few tickets left now. Join us for a day that shares the latest insights into how horses learn and ways you can optimise your communication.
19.01.2022 A good use of counter and approach conditioning for learned fear responses and introducing novel objects. The paths are as creative as you make them, once you have a handle on the principles. This is a topic we'll be exploring at our Taste and See education day on Sunday February 24th. :)
19.01.2022 Ever wondered if your horse can learn by watching another horse, or even a human?
19.01.2022 This was from our Equitation Science conference in France. This year’s was scheduled to be in England but has been postponed. New Zealand has plans to host a conference soon.
18.01.2022 An evening for horses and their welfare with Dr Andrew McLean 7pm May 16, The Haus, Hahndorf. 14.01.2022 Dear riders, as we adjust to the Covid-19 restrictions I wanted to let you know that Kersbrook Equestrian Centre is still open to our agisters, private lessons ...and essential services, under hygiene guidelines. Should you wish to book a lesson or two in lieu of next week's clinic, I am available. The protocol for visitors is as follows: cleanse hands at the gate (gel provided), tack up at your float, ride up to the indoor arena (there will be a mounting block positioned in the car park). Cleanse your hands as you leave. Simple! :) We are fortunate to be an outdoor sport and can readily practice social distancing. Hope you all stay well and, happy riding. Kind regards, Nicki. See more
14.01.2022 Hello riders, Sadly, in these uncertain times due to the Corona Virus, we have opted not to risk exposure, primarily to our much valued Manuela McLean, and cancel next week's clinic. Your lesson fees can be held until a later date or refunded, as you wish. Your clinic organiser, Pam Reid, will also be in touch directly. Please contact her during office hours if you have any further questions. Apologies and best wishes. Nicki, Pam, Sandy, Sophie and Manuela.
13.01.2022 Lots to think about from this presentation.
13.01.2022 http:// Friday Fact - Nosebands // When a horse is travelling with his mouth open, it indicates that the rider is pulling on the reins but the horse is not slowing. ...So there are deficiencies in his stop response and the horse has habituated to the bit pressure. The common approach, which is even endorsed by elite riding federations, is to shut the mouth with a noseband. In the past 50 years, noseband technology has boomed so that more force than ever before can now be applied to shut the horse's mouth. Some of these are called crank nosebands. This is a mistaken mindset as far as animal training principles and good welfare are concerned. Nosebands are band-aids for training errors, and horses that open their mouths are simply revealing that their response to lightness in the stop response must be thoroughly retrained.
12.01.2022 Hello. Don't forget to register for Manu McLean's clinic at Kersbrook Equestrian Centre Oct 1-3rd. To enable you to get the most out of your lessons the indoor arena will be made available between 2-3pm on the Sunday prior to the clinic FREE of charge to all participants to get into the groove and familiar with the environment, especially if it's your first clinic. You can book some time with Nicki, too, if you think you'd like a hand with your horse.

07.01.2022 2020 Update This will be going out on email as well. Firstly, heartfelt commiserations to our friends and colleagues affected by the Cudlee Creek fire. Your Equitation Science SA clan is here for you. We have lots of news for 2020. You’re probably all keen to know dates for your diary. They can be found here: ... https://www.esi-education.com//cat/outside-victoria/list/ SA has booked four, two day clinics with Manuela McLean with an option on a third day for all of these if numbers require. March 23rd & 24th (registrations open on January 27th) June 1st & 2nd (open April 6th) Sept 9th & 10th (open July 15th) December 8th & 9th (open Oct 13th) If you’re yet to experience the benefits of horse training based on the principles of learning (Equitation Science), here is the Australian website: https://www.esi-education.com/ South Australia’s clinics are supported by ES Diploma holder, Nicki Stuart, who offers pre-clinic lessons and arena familiarisation sessions to help you get the most out of your training experience. If you’re looking for help between clinics Nicki, and a growing body of ES graduates are on hand. The principles and methods give all horses and riders sound foundations for success in any equestrian activity and is very effective at resolving problem behaviours. Now, more news after 20 years of ES clinics at Kersbrook Equestrian Centre it’s time for some tweaks. KEC will continue to host clinics but we have two new organisers, Pam Reid & Sandy Doig, so this will serve as a handover. Pam will be your point of contact and I will let her take things from here as far as communication goes. We anticipate keeping this page as our main message board but registrations will still be required via email at this stage. Look out for a reminder for registrations opening for the March clinic. Private lessons will now run for 40 minutes and shared for 50 minutes. ESI costs will remain unchanged but we anticipate there may be a small price increase in administration and facility hire costs (these will now be paid via cash to your organisers). We are planning for a smooth transition and enhancements wherever possible to your clinic experience. Please feel welcome to make suggestions! That’s all for now and we look forward to seeing you and hopefully some more new faces (feel free to share) in 2020.

03.01.2022 Media release 7 May 2019: Digital hoofprints: A positive approach to horse welfare a focus for Adelaide Hills seminar. How horse owners communicate on social me...dia about horse welfare reflects on the sport or recreation activity in which they participate. A seminar for horse owners and organisation representatives will discuss differences between the common term ‘good care’ and the less understood areas related to ‘positive welfare’. Horse SA has invited Victorian based Dr Andrew McLean as a guest speaker at a seminar scheduled for Hahndorf on Thursday 16 May at 7pm. Horse owners will have the opportunity to discuss the difference between the popular ‘Five Freedoms’ and the adaptable ‘Five Domains’ animal welfare assessment models. With a society that is increasingly recognising animal sentience, and animal agency, and applies anthropomorphic language to human-animal relationships, there is an a raised awareness amongst horse owners about the need to find out more about how to talk positively about welfare. Often horse owners or official organisational communications talk about welfare in non-specific terms using words such as ‘well-being’ said Julie Fiedler, Executive Officer for Horse SA. For our sport and recreation activities to remain sustainable and relevant into the future, and for the continual improvement of welfare for horses themselves, we have provided this opportunity to gain insights into contemporary knowledge and attitudes. The seminar is open to any horse owner, horse business employee or organisation representative. Seminar participants will take home a DIY horse welfare starter plan. Tickets start at $33 for Horse SA members, or $55 general admission for pre-purchased tickets or $70 at the door on the night.
