23.01.2022 Welcome to Spring! I think we can all relate

23.01.2022 We are flattered by the recent idea to honour firefighters with coloured ribbon on house fronts.. but wed like to say a little something. Whilst it is true th...at there have been thousands of firefighters in some horrific conditions battling to save people, animals and buildings, we simply cannot and should not take the credit for what is truly a mix of superheroes from all services. We couldnt do our job safely if it werent for our guardian angels at NSW Ambulance that have assisted in rendering help to firefighters and victims. We couldnt have faced the fires alone without our heroes at NSW Rural Fire Service who have battled tirelessly and given up their own wages to help volunteer The incredible work of NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service who have helped care for animals and their assistance with fighting fires The mammoth effort of NSW SES workers that have worked tirelessly to restore safety to communities and clear hazardous debris The heroic men and women in NSW Police Force that have assisted in many mammoth roles including helping evacuate and direct traffic and respond to incidents The amazing people from Defence Australia who have supported all agencies from air, land and sea in numours rolls and capabilities. The teams from Forestry Corporation of NSW working extremely hard fighting the fires and managing over 2million hectars of state forest. Our interstate agencies that have come to help and battled their own disasters at home The partners, children, friends and families of all firefighters that had to say farewell with fear and pride to a loved one and hold down the fort whilst they were gone The many every day heroes that have pushed for donations for victims and donated time, equipment or money to assist those in need The wonderful unseen warriors at our communications centers who have the difficult job of determining where resources need to go when resources really needed to be everywhere at once The people from all over the world that have come to help from NZ, Canada, USA & more The executive managment team and incident controllers at Fire and Rescue NSW who have helped allocate resources and ensure our safety, and of course the incredible RFS Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons and his team who has gone above and beyond in doing everything possible to keep everyone informed and safe and showed true leadership The behind the scenes people who update apps, warnings and Facebook pages who have worked tirelessly to keep information coming in times of need This is by NO means an exhaustive list, please forgive us for not mentioning everyone. We are sure there are SO many more people to thank, so wed like to leave this post open for all to share and tag someone individually or an organisation that is doing incredible things and let them know we all appreciate it. 19.01.2022 Alex Tapp was an amazing equine vet and like a lot of vets she took her own life but her story is on another level. This is a difficult read for a lot of my friends and family with kids the same age but her stories needs to be told in order for change to happen.

16.01.2022 Amid trading here on Day 1 of the Gold Coast Yearling Sale, young Eliza Spiers from South Australia got in touch with us to remind us of whats really important.... Recently, Eliza and her mum Kerrie needed a safe haven urgently for their horses as bushfires swept through the Adelaide Hills and they, along with so many others, evacuated to Magic Millions Adelaide. Eliza sent us this little video to thank us for opening our barn doors, and it gives us immense pride to know that we were able to make a difference in such troubling times for her. Thank you Eliza and Kerrie!

13.01.2022 FIRST CASE OF HENDRA VIRUS DETECTED IN NSW THIS YEAR Hendra virus has been confirmed in a 17 year old unvaccinated thoroughbred horse on a property south of Mur...willumbah, on the far north coast of NSW. The owner noticed the horse was depressed and having difficulty breathing on Friday, 29 May. A private veterinarian took samples for Hendra virus exclusion, but the horse deteriorated and was euthanised over the weekend. DPI is expecting to see an increased risk of Hendra virus this winter and has been working with Local Land Services to encourage private veterinarians and horse owners to take the necessary precautions including vaccinating horses, and wearing appropriate protective equipment. In NSW, there have been 23 confirmed horse deaths as a result of Hendra virus since 2006, with most cases occurring on the north coast. Horse owners are urged to remain vigilant and talk to their veterinarian about how they can reduce the risks of Hendra virus. For more information about Hendra, visit the DPI website Local Land Services NSW

13.01.2022 Had a few of these reactions over the years So funny!

12.01.2022 COVID-19 UPDATE - TELEMEDICINE/ TELETRIAGE ***With the unfolding Corona Virus crisis it is important that your horse can still be cared for. We are offering a telemedicine for all existing clients.*** What is veterinary telemedicine?... Veterinary telemedicine practice uses telecommunication technology to undertake remote consultation without the patient being physically present. How is it done? We can conduct consultations via video apps such as FaceTime, Skype and WhatsApp, and utilise text messages and phone calls. The AVA guidelines include; A bona fide veterinarianclientpatient relationship must be established, except when acting only in a tele-triage (emergency) capacity. Telemedicine consultation services may occur: 1. between a veterinarian and a client for which a bona fide veterinarianclientpatient relationship exists. 2. between a veterinarian and a client in a tele-triage capacity (i.e. where a bona fide veterinarianclientpatient relationship does not exist).

We will ask you to put your horse place in a small yard or stable. All rugs and halters should be taken off the horse. We will bring all the gear we need and take it with us. 03.01.2022 Well it's foaling and calving season and for many of us, that means a few sleepless nights helping bring the little bundles into the world. However, it seems there can be a few more dramas involved when the whole family turns up to the birth... Oh Irene

03.01.2022 FEI recommends cancellation of FEI Events due to Coronavirus Dear National Federations, As a follow-up to our last communication on the recommendations from the... World Health Organisation (WHO) regarding Mass Gatherings and the necessity of Event Organisers to conduct a full risk assessment together with local authorities, the spread of the Coronavirus Covid-19 has taken a rapid turn for the worse and sport worldwide is affected. We as a community have to make our contribution to limit the spread of this virus, as the sooner it can be contained the sooner we will be able to get back to normal life and normal sport. And this is something that every other sport is doing. The FEI appreciates the amount of work and incredible investment every Organiser puts into their Event. While the FEI does not itself organise any FEI Events, in light of the escalating numbers of persons affected by the virus and the restrictions imposed by national governments, the FEI strongly recommends that Organisers should cancel all events for the next four weeks until a reassessment of the situation can be made. The FEI and Board will work together with the International Equestrian Organisers Alliance to evaluate what can be done to try and accommodate dates for Events that have been impacted during this period. However, we are aware that this is no simple matter, as clearly no single Organiser can be favoured to the detriment of others, and the FEI does not know how many Events will be impacted nor how long the current situation will last. The FEI has already decided that Calendar fees for events that have had to be cancelled because of Covid-19 will be waived. We are also assessing the impact of cancellations of Events on other areas such as ranking points and on athletes and horses seeking MERs for the Olympic or Paralympic Games and qualifications for FEI Championships. We can guarantee you that the FEI is monitoring the situation hour-by-hour and that we are constantly looking at what specific situations need to be addressed. Our thoughts are with all of you and we strongly believe that our community will do the right thing and work to support each other through this crisis. 01.01.2022 COVID-19 UPDATE - ANIMALS As I sure many of you have seen, today it was announced that lions and tigers at the Bronx Zoo started showing respiratory signs. They tested one tiger for corona virus, and it was positive. ***What we know so far about household pets;... -Only four pets from COVID positive homes have had positive tests (compared to 1.26 million people). Two cats, Two dogs. Positive PCR tests are not absolute confirmation of infection. -In high dose experimental infections, dogs, cat and ferrets were positive on respiratory PCR for the virus, and some would seroconvert. Only ferrets, and to a lesser extent cats were able to transmit the virus to other ferrets/cats. ***There is NO evidence that a person has ever gotten this from a pet*** -Wide scale testing (thousands) at IDEXX has shown no positives from pet samples in the US. And these are sick animals. -Pet insurance reports in the US, show no increase in claims or any respiratory or GI claims across their very large network (500,000 pet owners). -The tigers do help to confirm we can give it to some animals. There is still no evidence they can spread it to us. ADVICE FOR PET OWNERS: **You should restrict contact with pets and other animals while you are sick with COVID-19, just like you would with other people. **It is recommended that people sick with COVID-19 limit contact with animals until more information is known about the virus. **When possible, have another member of your household care for your animals while you are sick. **If you are sick with COVID-19, avoid contact with your pet, including petting, snuggling, being kissed or licked, and sharing food. **If you must care for your pet or be around animals while you are sick, wash your hands before and after you interact with pets. **The animal should as much as possible be quarantined in the household. 01.01.2022 With the horrible weather heading our way, please make yourself aware of what to do with your horses. Remember to always stick to your fire plan. Stay safe *****Remove all gear, including rugs***** **Horses need a large open space to avoid bushfires... **Move your horses to a safer location before a Severe, Extreme or Code Red day **Seek treatment for burns quickly See more
