24.01.2022 OK, all you weird, wonderful, and hugely talented woodworkers, out there, I have a little puzzle for you. This is a small hand mirror, made of what appears to be Walnut, and fitting into a groove, is a beveled mirror. The puzzle both Aled Lewis and I are trying to figure out is how the mirror was fitted into its housing. Quartersawn She Oak is one of the most vibrant, youthful woods I know, but its beauty is rare as its almost impossible to match two or more pieces harmoniously. So, these doors are covered in sawn veneers cut on my Hitachi CB75 resaw. I am not normally one to proselytise tool brands, but I’ve now had this Veritas PM-V11 blade in my No 5 for several years now, and its performance blows me away compared to anything else Ive tried. For me, a distant second is my Clifton HCS blade - also a darn good blade. This blade’s edge just hangs in there, and when it comes to sharpening time, it’s a breeze. 20.01.2022 Sunday arvo on the ancient Munda Biddi trail that is now dedicated to mountain biking only. The track extends from the Perth Hills several hundred kilometres so...uth to Walpole. The undergrowth at this time of the year is awash with wildflowers. 20.01.2022 The joy of the 100 hour journey to make this chest of 6 drawers is completely surpassed by the 11 second thrill of that first wipe of oil! The little surprise at the end of this video is a decorative piece of end-grain Wenge over a She-oak shadow. 12.01.2022 Wasting away material from the mouth of the jointer planes my students are making at Sturt School for Wood. This process is pretty quick on the drill press, using a set of three spacers against the fence to drill the four, overlapping 1/2" holes. Each one of the six, four-hole lines is set at a different depth. 07.01.2022 So nice to have my Rhythm Desk in Blackbutt, Wenge and sterling silver back in the studio, even if it is to undertake water damage repairs to the top. Commissioned in 2005 by a long-term patron. Here you see the three triangular drawers, each of which swivels out on a seperate segment of the Wenge leg. Taper roller bearings fitted to each one helps to keep it from sagging, while providing an almost frictionless action. A fine, 1mm sterling silver inlay is set in just shy of the top of each drawer.
