23.01.2022 "It is a great mercy to live under a gospel ministry... still greater to have God pouring the Spirit into your heart, awakening your soul. Do not neglect it, do not turn back; remember Lot's wife. 'Escape for thy life; look not behind thee; tarry not in all the plain. Escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed.'" ~ R.M. McCheyne

19.01.2022 John Rabbi Duncan speaking of the deceitfulness of sin: Sin seems to say, I’m not sin at all. Then Sin says, I’m pleasant. Yes, pleasant poison. Then Sin says, Ah! Do you call that sin? Well, it is but a little sin. Alas! Alas! For us men there can be no little sin unless there be a little God against whom to commit it. Then Sin says, It is a common sin; good people do that. A good man has crooked legs; are crooked legs therefore no evil? He has stiff joints. Are stiff joints therefore no evil? Ah, men don’t argue that way about the natural evil, but they do about the spiritual evil, because they love sin, and will take any excuse for it, and never readier than when they find it in a good man. Then Sin says, If you sin, there’s Christ to go to.

19.01.2022 On Divisions in the Christian Church I confess I would rather, much rather, spend all my time and days in making up and healing the breaches and schisms that are amongst Christians than one hour in justifying our divisions, even therein wherein, on the one side, they are capable of a fair defence. But who is sufficient for such an attempt? The closing of differences amongst Christians is like opening the book in the Revelation, there is none able or worthy to do it, in hea...ven or in earth, but the Lamb: when he will put forth the greatness of his power for it, it shall be accomplished, and not before. In the meantime, a reconciliation amongst all Protestants is our duty, and practicable, and had perhaps ere this been in some forwardness of accomplishment had men rightly understood wherein such a reconciliation, according to the mind of God, doth consist. When men have laboured as much in the improvement of the principle of forbearance as they have done to subdue other men to their opinions, religion will have another appearance in the world. Dr John Owen

15.01.2022 Justification by faith was the doctrine that stirred the whole of Europe 500 years ago this week, transforming individuals and even nations. The recovery of this truth remains of critical importance to the restoration and strength of the modern Church. J. H. Merle D'Aubigne, the famous historian of the Reformation, remarked, "In our own days...we have forgotten this main doctrine of justification by faith, although in a sense opposed to that of our fathers. ‘In the time of L...uther,’ observes one of our contemporaries, ‘the remission of sins cost money at least; but in our days, each man supplies himself gratis.’ There is a great similarity between these two errors. There is perhaps more forgetfulness of God in ours, than in that of the 16th century. The principle of justification by the grace of God, which brought the Church out of so much darkness at the period of the Reformation, can alone renew our generation, put an end to its doubts and waverings, destroy the selfishness that preys upon it, establish righteousness and morality among the nations, and, in short, reunite the world to God from whom it has been dissevered.

11.01.2022 "Nothing, it seems to me, will strike the heart of this callous age, but new holiness in believers' lives -- the awe-inspiring spectacle of men glowing with love to their Lord, openly separating from the world." George Smeaton

10.01.2022 All that the Lord thy God commands thee to do, that do thou to the Lord thy God: add nothing to it, diminish nothing from it.' By this rule, think I, the Kirk [i.e., Church] of Christ will measure God's religion, and not by that which seems good in their own eyes. John Knox

08.01.2022 "You say that you pray; but when you kneel down behind closed doors, will you believe that Jesus is actually by your side, desiring to bless you?" Brownlow North

07.01.2022 Missionary presentation in Warrnambool. Richard Wilson, Pastoral Coordinator of IRFA (Indian Reformed Fellowship Australia), will be speaking at the Archie Graham Centre this Sunday, 2nd July. Our worship service will be at 5pm as usual, with Mr Wilson preaching.... At 6:30 Mr Wilson will give a presentation about the work of IRFA. IRFA is a fellowship of committed Christian teachers, engaging with local churches and denominations throughout India, Nepal and Sri Lanka. IRFA’s approach to mission follows the apostolic model, with focus on the local church becoming self-supporting, self-governing and self-propagating. More information can be found on their website at irfa.org.au. All are welcome to either or both events. Invite your friends and family for a great evening of worship, fellowship and learning. Please keep this night in your prayers as we seek the Lord’s blessings on these events and those who attend.

04.01.2022 Do not be surprised to find obstructions in the walk of faith. You will find them every hour. It is no slight grasp which must be taken of the kingdom of heaven in order to make a man safe amid the ruin and the wreck of a perishing world. Believe me, it is not with folded hands and drowsy consciences, and hearts full of the cares of this life, but denying ourselves, taking up the cross, bearing the reproach, and by following the Lamb wherever he goes, that we shall enter the kingdom. William Burns

03.01.2022 Dear friends, the prayer meeting and Bible study will be held at Stephen Tanner's home - 12 Queen St Framlingham - from 10am this Thursday (4th October), the Lord willing. We look forward to seeing you there!

02.01.2022 "Church talk" versus profitable Christian conversation: "Do not expect much profit to your soul from the constant talking about matters connected with religion, which we hear so much of... it is always the church, the church! that we hear of... and meanwhile, our need of grace in the heart is forgotten. There is little about us which puts men in mind that there is still a heaven, and a hell, and a glorious, living, reigning Christ." William Burns, "Revival Sermons"

02.01.2022 Dear friends, Due to the closure of our usual venue, we are planning to meet for public worship this Lord's Day (22.03.2020) at Lake Pertobe from 3pm, the Lord willing. The service may be a little shorter and less formal while we get used to the format. Please bring your picnic chairs and blankets if necessary - and while we exercise common sense, let's pray for a real sense of our Lord's gracious and protective presence during this time of pestilence. ... Rich blessings in Christ, Stephen

01.01.2022 "I was rejoiced to hear that several prayer meetings have been formed among the people. In holding these I would encourage them to persevere, always remembering that the Lord hath said, not only where two or three are gathered together, there am I in the midst of them, but also when you pray enter into your closet, and pray to your Father who is in secret. Public religion, without closet fellowship with God, is hypocrisy, which may deceive the world, and deceive the soul ...itself, but cannot deceive a heart-searching God. Oh, let the dear people be much in secret prayer and meditation on the Lord’s word, if they would be with Jesus and be like him." ~ William Burns
