24.01.2022 Just a few pics from our Trick or Treat Halloween Festival Fundraiser. So fantastic to see a whole town come together and so many families having fun. Thanks again to all our volunteers and the local businesses for getting involved and making this event happen
24.01.2022 Historically Erica Kindergarten provided kindergarten and daycare programs for local and surrounding communities. The program also included a fantastic Bush Kinder - a unique program encouraging children to learn in and with nature. Unfortunately this year the kindergarten was suspended due to lack of enrolments. While we aren’t sure what the future will bring given the current Covid-19 situation, we want to encourage local families (and those willing to travel) to enrol o...r express interest with the Baw Baw Shire ASAP. If you are wanting to enrol in 3 or 4 year old kinder in 2021, 2022 or 2023 at Erica Kindergarten please consider contacting Baw Baw Shire via the link below. Without enrolments for 2021 and expressions of interest for future years the community may lose this valuable asset. Erica Kinder: - a small, friendly kindergarten - offers an amazing bush kinder program children thrive in - located in the beautiful township of Erica - only 24 minutes from Moe or 35 minutes from Traralgon - well worth the drive! https://www.bawbawshire.vic.gov.au//Apply-Online-Kinder-ap
23.01.2022 We had a great time at bush kinder today. We paddled in a little stream and the cool water was very refreshing. The children loved it.
18.01.2022 Fun in the sun with Tilly . Thanks for visiting Bush Kinder Michael Leany.
18.01.2022 We had a great time at the bush slide last week. Some of the children hadn't experienced it before. We passed the 'Whispering Tree' on our way to the slide. The children were very happy to see the flowering gums and they also studied the different leaf shapes we find in the bush. Laurelee and the children examine gum nuts to see if they have dropped their seeds.
17.01.2022 Unfortunately I have received the news that the YMCA has now decided not to reopen Erica Kindergarten in 2021 due to lack of enrollments. This is an extremely disappointing decision, however, it does not mean this is the end for this much loved community asset. If you had not yet submitted an enrollment form, and you were interested in Erica Kindergarten, I still encourage you to contact Baw Baw Shire to express your interest - they won't know unless you tell them!
17.01.2022 We have had a great start to the new year. The children are getting to know new friends and been very busy with lots of painting and cooking. We still have room for new enrolments. This year we have two long days at kinder 8.30am until 4pm Monday and Wednesdays. This makes it much easier for families travelling up the hill. We have Bush Kinder Wednesday mornings 8.30 until 12.30.
14.01.2022 We celebrated the darkest time of the year with our Winter Festival last Wednesday at Erica Kindergarten. The children made their own lanterns and on the night they had real candles in them. We all enjoyed warm soup and bread and then the children walked outside in the dark carrying their beautiful lanterns while singing their Lantern Song. The children enjoyed listening to the story Little Red Riding Hood at the end of the evening.
11.01.2022 Not long now! Soooo much fun to be had! More activities, more trick or treating and more lollies & prizes! ... Sausage sizzle & a raffle too
11.01.2022 Thank you to everyone who shared posts and spread the word to support this community asset. Pleased to see 4yo placement offers going out today for Erica kinder! Looks like the kinder will be open in 2021 offering two long days (Tuesday and Thursdays). 3yo offers due to come out in September. Fantastic news! ... Please contact Baw Baw Shire for enrolment info. https://www.bawbawshire.vic.gov.au//Children/Kindergartens
08.01.2022 From today’s Warragul Drouin Gazette. This is good reason why I’m running for re-election! I’m very clear about my position, I’m THE strong voice for small town...s, rural and remote areas. I’m passionate about it because it’s my lived experience... I don’t have to imagine what it’s like to live and work in a small town, rural or remote community...I do it every day! If returned, I will continue the fight and push to have the Erica Kindergarten removed from the permanent closeure list!!! Please spread the word about who supports small towns, rural and remote areas to make sure you don’t loose your voice on council. SHARE THIS POST if you can! See more
07.01.2022 We had the best time at Bush Kinder last Wednesday, the 24th April. We met with the primary school children and went for a walk to the other side of the big dam to see if we could get a glimpse of the platypus living there. We saw two platypuses playing in the water over on the other side of the dam (they moved over there after we arrived). We saw them come up for air and dive back down leaving circles of ripples. It was very exciting, up to five platypuses have been seen at one time on the dam. After this, we walked to the bush slide and the children had a fantastic time grinding soft rocks together. They were totally lost in this activity all children (kinder and primary school) sharing and socialising with each other like one big family. The adults felt privileged to be there.
05.01.2022 We have a beautiful new picture on the Kinder wall. It captures the school and kinder children enjoying walking in the bush.
04.01.2022 We walked past the bush slide and the banks of the track were very steep. We discussed how this was where the old railway line use to run and it had been dug by many men working very hard with hand tools. The children were very interested to learn and think about a train running through here. We found a huge tree that had been chopped down. We think the forest people chopped it down because it was dead and very rotted inside. The children decided it must have been very old and we could see all the rotted wood inside the tree. Even though it was lying on the ground we decided it could make a good home for the bush creatures especially wombats.
02.01.2022 We had Kate from DELP come to visit our Bush Kinder on the 14th August. The children helped to light a camp fire and we cooked pancakes. Kate and the children examined marks in the bark on some of the gums. These are the Shining Gums. We saw Black Cockatoos ripping at the bark high up in the trees looking for grubs. The water level of the creek had risen quite a bit after all the rain. It was very muddy going down the bush slide but the children loved it!
02.01.2022 Erica Kindergarten is a beautiful and small kindergarten with a unique bush kinder program. It’s a treasured community asset and well worth the drive from further afar. NOW is the time to express interest or lodge your enrolment preference with Baw Baw Shire for a place at Erica Kindergarten. Without enrolments the kinder will not recommence in 2021. If you have young children due to attend 3 or 4yo kinder in 2021 or 2022, please contact Baw Baw Shire via the link below.... https://www.bawbawshire.vic.gov.au//Apply-Online-Kinder-ap
02.01.2022 Thank you so much to everyone that came out to support our Halloween Festival tonight and a huge special mention to all the local businesses for getting involved too. 1914 Cafe & Bar Erica, Newman’s Berry Farm, Erica Pub, Erica general store, bakery and post office, Erica Caravan Park and a special mention to Bree, Amy & Brodie on behalf of Rawson Primary School for their huge efforts at the Town Hall. The Kinder raised just shy of $500 which is amazing! I spoke to quite a fe...w kids and they all told me that they’d had lots of fun which is great to hear! Congratulations to our lucky raffle winner Calvin Falls too!
01.01.2022 Hi everybody. I am the new teacher at Erica Kindergarten my name is Roslyn Webb. I am an experienced teacher and am also trained in Steiner Education. I am dedicated to the Forest Kinder program which continues every Thursday. We have a great program combining the Forest Kinder with a focus on learning from our natural environment. We also learn seasonal songs, verses and stories accompanied by movement and dance. The children have been busy making their own bees-wax lunch wraps to wrap their sandwiches in. We like to find ways the we can help the environment!
