25.01.2022 is one of the most common pain complaints we see in our clinic. The severity of this over use injury can span from the occasional ache first thing in the morning to debilitating pain that impacts day to day life. Our role as podiatrists is to establish the best treatment plan for each individual case getting you pain free and back to full functionality as soon as possible.... Generally the injury can be treated with the use of footwear modification, changes to the type of footwear, strapping and prefabricated orthotic devices. In other cases, patients may require a permanent in shoe orthotic device customised to their foot as part of their treatment plan. No matter the severity of the injury it is important to include conservative at home measures to help encourage healing. Stretching and mobility exercises along with the use of heat (warm compress), can be performed every morning to help alleviate that first step pain. Stretching, gentle massage and icing (frozen water bottles or ice packs) can be used of an evening to help reduce pain and inflammation.
