22.01.2022 Educate Vowel digraphs! There are 44 sounds (phonemes) in The English Language, but only 26 letters in the alphabet. ... So, we need to combine some letters to represent the remaining speech sounds. Two letters (or sometimes three of four) are put together to represent a specific sounds- this is called a digraph or a trigraph. E.g. ‘s’ & ‘h’ = /sh/ Vowel sounds are particularly important as there is a vowel sound in every syllable of spoken English! There are 19 Vowel Sounds!! Today’s Vowel Digraph is the /ay/ or Long-A sound- how many different ways can you find to spell this sound.... comment below!! 14.01.2022 It’s definitely hard, but worth it! *Edit: As I was posting this from another room, my three year old twins were playing, giggling and putting the biggest smile on my face. Not two minutes later, this turned into the two of them screaming their lungs out in each other's faces and snatching each other's toys from one another. Sometimes, you just don't know what to do: who started this, who is the culprit, who needs to be removed, who needs a cuddle.... in a very quick deci...sion, I grabbed my boy and took him into our room for a cuddle, my little girl found her comforter and went to lay down for some quiet time. While cuddling, my boy told me what had happened and that he had hit his sister. When I asked him how that made him feel he said he was feeling very bad. He gave me a big squeeze and when his sister came into the room he was ready to say "I'm sorry for hitting". She asked for a cuddle and he said, "let's all have a cuddle with Mummy too".... This was a very quick escalation and was a very tricky moment, but at the end I was glad we got to the point we did. Sometimes, it doesn't go that way and often my patience won't hold up for all these 'moments'. On reflection about the post I had made just moments before, I recognised that in the moment that they were both screaming in each other's face, neither was happy or getting what they wanted and they both needed help 'co-regulating'. A small bit of time away from each other and some gentle words, saw these two back playing nicely and happily 're-decorating' yet another room! Send me strength for the rest of the day! I now have two naked three year olds tackling and wrestling on top of an inflatable pool toy... in my dining room! See more
