That means the Byron Shire, Ballina, City of Lismore, Richmond Vall...ey (Casino and Evans Head), and Glenn Innes local government areas will be added The nature of the Border Zone will also change, residents from these places (and the existing areas) will be able to travel anywhere in Queensland Thats why its not being called a bubble anymore. In an answer to what had now changed for the Government to ease the border restriction, the Chief Health Officer said there hadnt been any cases in these areas for quite some time. Important - Restrictions on the rest of NSW will unlikely be changed until after the State Election (31 October) as the 28 day test they are using (where there needs to be 28 days without any cases they dont know the cause of) could be met while the Government is in caretaker mode. That means the last decision on changes to restrictions before the election will likely be at the end of this month (September) and we wont have another decision until early November The Opposition Leader Deb Frecklington MP said again yesterday (as she has many times before) that if elected Premier shed accept the CHOs advice... The borders should not be closed for more than one more day than is necessary. Right now, the Chief Health Officers advice is - and Ill accept that advice - is that there needs to be that 28 days of no community transmission. If successful next month, she also said shed cooperate better with the leaders of other states/territories on our border closures and to also get national consensus on defining what a hotspot is. Changes to other restrictions If there are 2 more days without community transmission, the CHO will consider advising lifting the restrictions in place for Brisbane and surrounds (on gatherings of more than 10 people). They could be further easing restrictions at the end of this month, entering Stage 4 on the road to recovery More details to come on what that looks like.
