25.01.2022 Recently we were thrilled to host Denise Brown, the CEO of Outback Queensland Tourism Association. Corey & Jo were able to show Denise through the in-construction Stage 2 of ENHM. Nice to know we share the same "Cathedral Thinking" in our vision for the future of this Museum. Thank you for representing and supporting tourism in Outback Queensland Denise & OQTA. #eromanganhmuseum #naturalhistorymuseum #cathedralthinking

25.01.2022 The local Eromanga Motel has both cold winters nights and hot summer days covered.

24.01.2022 Just a reminder that we are now closed for the Christmas break. We hope you all have a great Christmas wherever you are. Our closure & re-opening times are as follows;- Closed from19th December and re-open Wednesday 6th January. Then we will be open 5 days a week - Monday to Friday until Monday 15th March. Cooper's Country Lodge will be closed for bookings from 21st - 28th December.

24.01.2022 We hope, like our staff, you are feeling refreshed & ready to hit the ground running in 2021. Here's hoping it is a better year for everyone, but especially tourism businesses like ours.

22.01.2022 Have you joined the Aussie Backyard BIRD COUNT? Our staff members join this each year to help record species in our area. Why don’t you join in too?

22.01.2022 A huge thanks to Maxine and Jim who leave tomorrow after 9 days volunteering in the Lab. . . Maxine has done some lovely prepping on a very weathered, large Diprotodon humerus that has come up very nicely with the Microjack. .... . Jim started working on removing excess matrix from around a dinosaur bone and then finished one side of a Diprotodon scapula that we have used in our Family Prep Program this year. Today it has had a cradle made ready to flip it over so we can work on the side that was uppermost in the soil. Usually this side is the least well preserved. See more

21.01.2022 We were lucky to receive 8mm at the museum out of the recent storms. Some interesting clouds were around too.

21.01.2022 PLEASE NOTE - Due to restrictions Queensland-wide which took effect at 5pm today, you will need a mask to enter the museum. https://www.facebook.com/QLDHealth/posts/3885502804891106

21.01.2022 A new species of dinosaur sighted in Eromanga!

21.01.2022 Hard to believe, but it is almost time for us to close for the Christmas break. We'd like to thank everyone who has visited us in person at the Museum & those who follow us on Socials. Here is a little bit of Christmas humour from our staff to wish you a very Merry Christmas & a great 2021! Our closure & re-opening times are as follows;- Closed from19th December and re-open Wednesday 6th January. ... Then we will be open 5 days a week - Monday to Friday until Monday 15th March. Cooper's Country Lodge will be closed for bookings from 21st - 28th December.

21.01.2022 Wondering what there is to do when you visit Quilpie Shire? The ladies at the VIC in Quilpie have 10 great ideas.

21.01.2022 Hope these guys found a dry camp last night & some bitumen roads today! The rain started just as they left after a tour at the Museum.

20.01.2022 The road between Thargomindah and Eromanga is open again. If you are travelling around the Natural Science Loop and plan on visiting us, please book ahead to avoid disappointment. We have had 3 of the 4 tours reach capacity today. Talk to one of our friendly staff at (07) 46563084

19.01.2022 WE ARE HIRING! A position is available to join our friendly team as a Tour Guide & Housekeeper. You will be involved in the opening of the new stage of the Museum. We can't wait! For more information click the link below.... https://www.seek.com.au/job/50855375

19.01.2022 UPDATE- Our 9am tour Wednesday 23rd is booked out. Note that the Thargomindah - Eromanga road is currently closed at Bellalie channels. PLEASE NOTE - Our 11am and 1pm tours are fully booked today, but we still have room on the 3pm tour at this stage.

19.01.2022 UPDATE - Sorry here is the letter -now attached. Anyone who has done the DInosaur Giants Tour with us would have heard the name David Trewin. As a 14 year old, David found & wished to have identified some fossils from near Eulo, south-west Queensland. Here is the reply Queensland Museum sent him at the time. We are very grateful to have these specimens in our collection here at the Eromanga Natural History Museum. Recently we were thrilled to have David visit the Museum & here he is with one of those specimens.

18.01.2022 Our Megafauna Lab has been really busy with Fossil Prep Program participants over the past few weeks. We love to see the enjoyment people get out of learning how to prepare these 100,000-year-old bones. . . Interestingly these bones aren't totally fossilised yet, making them quite fragile & in need of a lot of care to ensure they stay intact while they are being consolidated.... . . Here is a selection of the latest preppers. If you are interested in finding out what this process involves, don't hesitate to contact us for more detail. https://enhm.com.au/tours-programs/fossil-prep-programs/ 07 46563084 or [email protected]

18.01.2022 Exciting to see the concrete floors being polished to show up their natural beauty.

17.01.2022 A recent preparator took these beautiful photos of some of the many species of birds we see on the Museum Reserve. They are a Chestnut-crowned Babbler (Pomatostomus ruficeps), Diamond Dove ( Geopelia cuneata), White-plumed Honeyeater (Ptilotula penicillata) and Blue Bonnets (Northiella haematogaster) Thank you Alan Teakle for the wonderful images.

17.01.2022 Look at this new addition to our Museum Shop! A beautifully soft plush sauropod. We are constantly adding to our choice of merchandise so don't forget to have a look when you join us for a Dinosaur Giants Tour. Our new online shop will be added to the website very soon..... https://enhm.com.au/tours-programs/museum-tours/

16.01.2022 MUSEUM CLOSED TODAY - Tuesday 23rd March. Sorry to say the museum is closed today due to rain. Wonderful to receive the rain though and as there were some good local falls, a lot of roads are closed meaning no one will be travelling far. Stay tuned, but we expect to be operating again tomorrow. (This is the storm that was coming in last night as the staff left the Museum.)

16.01.2022 Our Honorary Microfossil Processing Technician Steve has been back at the Museum for the past couple of weeks. It has been great to see some of the new microfossils he has discovered in the sediment in which we find our megafauna bones at Eulo. Steve took time to check out progress on the mega jacket from last years Dig. There have been over 28 bones already removed from this field jacket. Most impressive is the Diprotodon skull visible in this image. It's been great to catch up Steve - thank you for all you do for us.

15.01.2022 This Facebook memory showed up from last year when we had a booth at SVP in Brisbane. This is Michelle Pinsdorf, who is a paleontologist and preparator of vertebrate fossils at the Smithsonian National Natural History Museum. We bet her Dippy holds the record for the one who has travelled the furthest from Eromanga.

14.01.2022 An exciting day for us today with the roof on the Stage 2 pavilion being poured. The mud and freezing wind after yesterday’s rain were not making for great working conditions.

13.01.2022 We have altered opening hours over Easter with only the 9am & 11am tours running. Good Friday we are closed all day. If you are in town from Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon head down to the Eromanga Sporting Grounds, on the Kyabra Road, to join in the fun of the annual Campdraft & Rodeo. Meals & Bar available. Make sure you bring your mask.

13.01.2022 We recently hosted Kay & Grant from Trade Travel to show them all we have to offer to visitors to this part of the state. We are thrilled to see this itinerary added to their offerings. Visit their web page to see more detail. https://www.tradetravel.com.au/the-queensland-outback-is-c/

13.01.2022 This Sunday we have one of the favourite books of Robyn Mackenzie the General and Collections Manager at ENHM. This is such an informative book and has recently had a reprint. A book for our shop shelves next year for sure.

12.01.2022 Major Mitchell's cockatoo (Lophochroa leadbeateri), also known as Leadbeater's cockatoo or the pink cockatoo. This one was spotted this morning enjoying a breakfast of paddy melon. Just one of the birds you can spot on the ENHM reserve. What have you seen in the area? We'd love you to share any photos of local birdlife. https://enhm.com.au/

12.01.2022 It may be a Public Holiday, but ENHM is still open for tours. Those remaining are 11am, 1pm & 3pm. Give one of our friendly staff a call to book a place to learn all about our dinosaurs & megafauna. 07 46563084

11.01.2022 Time for another staff member's favourite reading matter. This Sunday it's the 2 books Jo is enjoying at the moment. Sauropods & geology - what more could you want? Well... maybe a gardening book too!

10.01.2022 First bus group of the year came though the Museum a few days ago. We enjoyed hosting them as they took the opportunity to stretch their legs and have a coffee. If you are in Eromanga this Easter we will be closed for Good Friday but are running tours at 9 and 11 am for the remainder of the Easter weekend. #eromanganhmusuem#visitquilpieshire

10.01.2022 Time for another shout out to someone who has generously supported us at the Museum. Have you noticed this wind vane at the junction of the Diamantina Developmental Road & the Cooper Developmental Road? Brian Rutledge of Moble Homestead is the clever creator of Cooper who points the way to his home at Eromanga. Brian kindly also maintains him when the wind gets a little destructive. Thank you Brian!

10.01.2022 Remembering those who have & are currently serving, especially those from Quilpie Shire and those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Two of our regular volunteers, Jim & Maxine, are wearing their poppies today to recognise Remembrance Day 2020. #lestweforget #remembrance

09.01.2022 We hope you are having a relaxing Sunday - maybe sitting down with a coffee and a great book? These are 2 of staff member Corey's favourites at the moment. What are your favourite books - any recommendations for us?

09.01.2022 New stock in our Museum Shop. Great ideas to keep the younger family members entertained. https://eromanga.vendecommerce.com/

09.01.2022 Thank you to Queensland Country Life & Sally Gall for the story on our new building being open to the public. As stated there will be an official opening later in the year to formally celebrate this milestone. https://www.queenslandcountrylife.com.au//eroman/67689073/

07.01.2022 Today we'd like to do a shout out to Costello Carriers who are our local mail service from Quilpie & freight service from Brisbane to Eromanga & all points in between. We couldn't ask for a better company to work with - nothing is a problem and they often go above & beyond for us. Thank you for all you do Gary, Glo & Kevin. https://www.facebook.com/Www.costellocarriers.com.au

07.01.2022 UPDATE - Our phones are now working again. Thank you for your patience. . .... We are temporarily without a phone system at the the Museum - probably due to the weather that is around at the moment. If you need to get in touch please email [email protected] We are sorry for this inconvenience & will post as soon as they are up & working again.

06.01.2022 We would like to acknowledge the many wonderful volunteers who generously give their time to assist us at the Museum. We truely appreciate everything you do to help us. Volunteers contributing their time are priceless.

06.01.2022 Recently we were pleased to welcome Senator McGrath to the museum and show him through the Stage 2a building. We thank him very much for the ongoing support of our project.

06.01.2022 We are open again today, but unfortunately, the roads are not due to the wonderful rain the SW has received. When they open again call in for a great cup of tea & a tour of the Museum. Remember "If it's flooded, forget it!" Please drive safely.

04.01.2022 Only a month to go until the Backyard Bird Count is here again! Our staff members join this count every year to record the bird species found in their backyards and on the Museum reserve. Why don’t you register this year - you might be surprised at the numbers you record.

02.01.2022 We are experiencing intermittent phone problems due to Telstra upgrading Eromanga from 3G to 4G. If you are having trouble contacting us by phone, please try one of the following ways: - Chat with us on our website https://enhm.com.au/ - send us an email to [email protected] - or send us a Facebook or Instagram message. We look forward to hearing from you.... Thanks ENHM Team See more

02.01.2022 Flashback to this time last year when we were at SVP in Brisbane. What a great experience it was!

02.01.2022 When you visit us don't forget to allow time to sit back, relax & enjoy the view with a drink from our Cafe menu. Thank you to our first visitors to the new building yesterday, all comments were very positive. Our website has lots of information about how to get here & the experiences we offer, so when you plan your trip to SW Qld don't forget to visit Eromanga and see all it has to offer. https://enhm.com.au/

01.01.2022 Please see the important notice below for anyone travelling in SWQld -especially the Quilpie Shire over the coming 5 days.

01.01.2022 A big thank you to Sally and Brad Skinner and Highsun Express who, earlier this year, generously donated a big lounge for our staff housing. Thank you also to Highsun for delivery to the freight depot in Brisbane. Donations like these make a huge difference to us as a Registered Australian Charity and Not For Profit. (Our staff say it is the comfiest sofa ever!)
