25.01.2022 COVID swab testing is available all weekend at the various sites. NSW Health is encouraging people to come forward for testing with even minor symptoms. The testing centres are able to see patients quite quickly so dont be worried about standing in a long queue. See the links here on our webpage http://erskinevilledoctors.com.au/coronavirus-covid19/

24.01.2022 In order to keep patients and staff safe, from Monday 23 March we are asking every patient book a phone consultation with our doctors for any issue. After an initial consultation, your doctor may decide that its appropriate to bring you in for review or to manage your health issues over the phone. Fees will apply, and there is limited bulk-billing available where Medicare allows for patients who we would ordinarily bulk-bill. The exceptions are: pregnant women needing a ...check up, newborn babies and children for scheduled immunisations. We might do some portion of these visits over the phone, and limit your time at the practice. If you are very unwell, please call rather than book online for a phone consultation. Our staff will ask you some screening questions to work out the urgency of your request. Please note, you will need to be ready at the appointment time with your phone in a quiet place, just as you would for a face to face consultation. What we are doing to protect patients already: asking people to wait outside until your doctor is ready clinical staff are wearing masks, gowns and gloves for examining patients alcohol handrub is available all over the practice wiping down surfaces in rooms between patients implementing social distancing between our staff within the practice Please note that Healthdirect 1800 022 222 has a phone service for advice regarding the Coronavirus outbreak and can direct you as to where best to seek medical advice if you are not sure. If you have severe difficulty breathing please dial 000 and notify the operator of any travel history or potential contact with COVID-19 (Coronavirus). If you are just after general information regarding the outbreak and how it applies to you, please visit the Healthdirect website https://www.healthdirect.gov.au/coronavirus We are updating our website here http://erskinevilledoctors.com.au/coronavirus-covid19/

24.01.2022 This article gives a great overview of the COVID-19 statistics here and overseas and explains where we are up to now. Worth a careful read and the graphics are really helpful. Pass it on to someone who needs a nudge. https://www.abc.net.au//coronavirus-covid19-globa/12089028

24.01.2022 You will have been reading advice from government sources about getting your flu vaccine this year. We do NOT currently have any influenza vaccinations. We are grateful if you can hold off on phoning for an appointment. Once we do receive the influenza vaccinations, we will be contacting patients to book them in for an appointment. To do this safely we will arrange specific times when we can organise to get people in and out with minimum contact time. We will be prioritising... our patients who are over 65, are immunocompromised or have a chronic health condition, pregnant women and babies as well as our Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander patients. If you are staying inside and looking after yourself you are already preventing yourself from getting influenza. Please note that the flu vaccine does not offer any protection from the coronavirus. Thank you for your patience. We will be in touch with you with further information once the flu vaccinations arrive.

24.01.2022 Spring has sprung! Time to think about managing your hayfever, especially if you don't want a COVID swab every other day. Some advice here from the National Prescribing Service. Best to get ahead of it with oral antihistamines or a corticosteroid nasal spray. Controlling allergic rhinitis is especially important for people with asthma, as it's a likely trigger. Time to review your asthma management plans too! https://www.nps.org.au/consumers/managing-hay-fever https://www.abc....net.au//hay-fever-or-covid-19-cor/12623060 https://www.abc.net.au/life/busting-hay-fever-myths/11696488

23.01.2022 This is a really important message. Yesterdays Victorian news emphasised that MOST people are not self-isolating with symptoms before they have a test, and dropping in to the shops/gym/etc after a test. Its simple - if you have symptoms stay away from other people (including people you share a house with), get tested, stay away again until you get a negative test AND have no symptoms. Even if you are just spreading a different virus you can create a whole chain of people who have to go through this process. Look after yourself and you will look after other people. 23.01.2022 To help keep our staff and patients safe we are booking every patient with respiratory symptoms or fever for a phone consultation. We are recommending that every patient book a phone constulation with our doctors, if your issue can be safely managed that way. We especially recommend that those in higher risk categories (eg. >70, chronic lung or heart disease, immunosuppressed) book phone consultations wherever possible. Fees will apply, and there is limited bulk-billing a...vailable for patients who we would ordinarily bulk-bill. You will need to be ready at the appointment time with your phone in a quiet place, just as you would for a face to face consultation. If you do attend the practice: - wait outside until we send you a message to enter the waiting room - use hand sanitiser and masks provided Please dont be alarmed seeing our staff in scrubs and protective equipment. We are doing all we can to keep everyone safe. http://erskinevilledoctors.com.au/coronavirus-update/

23.01.2022 For those who need some mental health support at this time, here's a phone line staffed by people who have been through it themselves https://beingsupported.org.au/

23.01.2022 Flu vaccines are available for anyone aged 6 months or over. Call to book your appointment. We dont currently have any vaccines available for sale, but can write a script for you to source one from a pharmacy. http://erskinevilledoctors.com.au/flu-vaccine-update-2/

22.01.2022 Its not too late to vaccinate and protect yourself against the flu season! Flu vaccines are still available for all ages. If you would like to book in please call our reception team on 9557 2266.

22.01.2022 If you have travelled to Melbourne recently - please read!!! We wil be asking the question of all our patients when you book an appointment or present at the practice. https://www.health.nsw.gov.au//covid-19-melbourne-hotspots See also a link to the Public Health order which takes affect at midnight. ... https://www.health.nsw.gov.au///pho-interstate-hotspot.pdf. The guts of it are: The order relates to affected persons, persons who in the last 14 days have been in a Victorian COVID hotspot. The order directs that an affected person must not travel to NSW unless they are: o a NSW resident o entering to obtaining medical or other care; to fulfil a legal obligation or give effect to a Court order; or to provide an essential service If an affected person enters NSW, they must self isolate at their place of residence or another suitable place and remain there until 14 days have passed since the person was in a COVID hotspot. There are only limited reasons an affected person can leave their home, including obtaining medical care, complying with legal obligations, providing an essential service, in an emergency or to leave NSW. The person must comply with the NSW Health self-isolation guidelines. Another person cannot enter the affected persons place of residence except in limited circumstances eg normally live there or providing medical care or delivering food.

21.01.2022 Passing on this link to an excellent resource for older people wanting to maintain (or start!) an exercise regimen at home. This has been compiled by many experts in the field, and was done this year in the context of facilities being closed due to coronavirus concerns. If you or a family member need some advice on how to get started, have a browse of this site. You can also download some information and print off if you need to go old school. https://www.safeexerciseathome.org.au/

21.01.2022 Lots of talk about the vaccine in the media, and you might have lots of questions. At the moment we actually don't have a great deal to add as the lack of clarity you might perceive is actually there for us too. If you have questions, so do we. We are planning for anything that might happen! We expect to be having supply of COVID vaccine at some stage this year, but we don't know yet whether this will be for the first priority groups. We also don't know where the flu vaccine... program will fit in at this stage. Bottom line - if we have the COVID vaccine we will let you know, if you have to go somewhere else we will provide you with this information. We will be using email alerts, updating our website, and are compiling lists of people in the 1b priority group so that we can make sure you are in the loop This article from the ABC is a good summary, but just be aware that they have changed the group numbers compared to any government document, so: 1 = 1a, 2 = 1b, 3 = 2a, 4=2b, 5=3 https://www.abc.net.au//when-will-you-get-the-cov/13112610

19.01.2022 Some lighter news for a change..... We are pleased to report that Dr John has welcomed his baby girl into the world on 2 May. He is on leave now due back to work on 25 May, presumably with a renewed empathy for all those parents of newborns! Speaking of people with new perspective on parenting, Dr Shereena is back next week, working on Mondays and Thursdays. She continues her work at Tresilian on some other days.... The not so good news for us our nurse Catherine, who had returned from maternity leave, has now moved to Queensland. We wish her and her family all the best.

19.01.2022 Keep an eye on the COVID alerts, and remembered to get tested if any concerns about exposures or your symptoms. Nearly 90% of test results are coming back within 24 hours. See our Coronavirus page for more information

18.01.2022 Given the COVID-19 clusters in Melbourne, and in line with NSW Health practice at all hospitals, we are adding this question to our health screening: "Have you been in Melbourne in the past 14 days?". If the answer is yes, we will be asking you to have a phone consultation with your doctor first to help us ascertain risk. Remember that NSW Health is still advising testing for any symptoms, however minor. There is currently no such thing as "just a sore throat". If you have... symptoms you should stay home from school, work and other social gatherings, and self-isolate until your test result is known. That means no shopping, visiting the gym, seeing your relative at a Nursing Home, attending birthday parties, etc, etc - these are all things people have been reported to do while waiting for a result! Having a commonsense approach to looking after yourself will help prevent a resurgence in infections. https://www.health.nsw.gov.au//Pag/covid-19-melbourne.aspx

18.01.2022 Flu vaccines - we now have vaccines for all age groups, both those provided by NSW Health and ones for private purchase. Please note that if you are over 65 there is a different version which will not be available at the pharmacy, so please contact us for an appointment. We are going through our waitlist to book everyone in over the next couple of weeks.

17.01.2022 https://www.expertadvicematters.com.au/ Morning all, another reminder that we are available to book you for consultations - either over the phone or face to face (as appropriate) - for any of your health concerns.

16.01.2022 There have been new case alerts for Newtown - Time for Thai restaurant August 28th (5.00-8.00) - if you dined there during this time you are considered to be a close contact of a diner who later tested positive. You will need to organise a test ASAP and self-isolate for 14 days. In addition, if you used Newtown Train Station, Kings Street Newtown 2042 on 28 August 2020 between 5.10pm - 5.20pm, you should monitor for symptoms and get tested even with minor symptoms. If you c...ant remember where to find the NSW Health COVID Case alerts, theres a link on our website here. The other latest ones to watch this week are a bus from the city to Randwick, and a gym in Marrickville. Read the full list to see if you should be concerned about a possible contact. You can attend the NSW Health testing clinics or call us for short appointment to organise a swab request at private pathology services. http://erskinevilledoctors.com.au/nsw-hotspots/

13.01.2022 One new locally acquired COVID case is someone who attended the Holy Duck! restaurant on Kensington Street in Chippendale on July 10 between 7:15pm and 9:30pm. Anyone who was at the restaurant at the same time is being told to self-isolate for 14 days and monitor for symptoms. Holy Duck! is one of the restaurants in the Spice Alley area near Central Park/Broadway/UTS. Please have a low threshold for getting tested if you were in that area on 10 July and are concerned about an...y symptoms. https://www.abc.net.au//nsw-warns-over-increase-i/12470654 See also https://www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/latest-news-and-updates

12.01.2022 While there is a staged easing of restrictions in the wider community, we are also being cautious about rolling back changes at the practice. To keep our staff and patients safe, we continue to ask all patients to book a phone or video consultation initially. This provides an extra layer of screening and safety for everyone, while allowing us to provide advice to patients with respiratory symptoms as well as other medical conditions. Please be assured that we are available ...to deal with any of your medical issues - be they new problems, managing your chronic medical conditions, or something you have just been sitting on for ages and been meaning to ask a doctor about. We encourage you to call us regarding any medical issue, and we have room to take on new patients We have compiled some information about Coronavirus on this page on our website. http://erskinevilledoctors.com.au/coronavirus-covid19/

12.01.2022 Welcome back to Dr John (3 weeks into fatherhood and a bit bleary-eyed!) and Dr Shereenah (1 year into motherhood and cruising!). http://erskinevilledoctors.com.au/staff-news/

10.01.2022 Ive been seeing lots of up-side and back- to-front mask wearing! Heres a video that might help. Tips - usually its the coloured side facing outwards, there is a bendy wire bit on the top to mould to the top of your nose. In line with NSW Health guidelines, we are asking our patients to bring their own mask where possible, or use one of ours, while you are in the practice. https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=948178572322946

09.01.2022 We received lovely reminders yesterday from two former staff members that its one year since we moved up the road to our current premises! Cannot imagine how we would have managed this coronavirus period in the old practice. We will be posting updates and emailing you this week about our transition back to more face to face appointments. The key will be managing our waiting room with appropriate physical distancing and allowing time for cleaning. We will continue to need your patience and cooperation as we bring in these changes. Phone and video consultations remain an option, and Medicare rebates still apply for these, at least until the end of September. Remember to check our website - the pop up, news page and our coronavirus page for updates. Appointuit will be amended so that you can go online to book face to face appointments.

09.01.2022 In NSW the testing criteria has now been expanded to include anyone with fever or relevant symptoms that could be COVID-19 related (fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath). See the Coranavirus page on our website for more information.

09.01.2022 If you have been trying to book an online appointment for face to face consult, please have another look - I fixed a glitch! Our regular patients will have received an email about how we are transitioning back to more consultations at the practice - check our website here http://erskinevilledoctors.com.au/transition-to-face-to-fa/
