The first one reminded me of Goflowolfog (any chaos mages will probably know that one - meeeeooowww) and the second one literally says magick haha! 14.01.2022 I get so frustrated with books on wandlore, I really don’t understand why they’re all so bad! This one is just the latest in a line of books I’ve read on the topic and it leaves sooo much to be desired. I’m not even convinced this particular text was proofread with the amount of grammatical errors and just... using the wrong words for things? It reads like it was dictated to an iPhone’s voice-to-text function. It would also be great if we could just collectively abandon the idea of cores from a magical creature. Wandlore is already an ancient and sacred practice, it doesn’t need the ideas of some TERF billionaire influencing what a wand should be. If it’s real, it can take the pressure. You don’t need to make shit up to validate your practice.

12.01.2022 Merlin the cat is so ready to learn the mysteries of Jediism! I ordered a new copy about six months ago because I gave mine to a friend and it finally arrived! I’m excited to revisit this text! The tenets, principles and practices were so beneficial the first time I read it and I think there’s some tools in here that will be really helpful in these troubled times.

09.01.2022 Ophiel and Och - Olympic spirits of Mercury and the Sun respectively. I pulled these out of a trading card pack recently and I’ve been thinking a lot about them. I think it’s interesting how prevalent the use of grimoiric imagery is in anime. The evangelical mothers were right... Pokémon really was teaching us how to summon demons. I’d love to implement these in a conjuration! More than that though I’m thinking about my relationship with trading cards and how learning what a ...card means is something I’ve done for fun since I was a child. Memorising a meaning and associating it with a picture at a glance was a skill trading card games taught me. So naturally when I picked up the tarot I was working through a really similar process. So! My word of wisdom to you all is that if you wanna get good at tarot - play trading card games ;) there might even be more to them than meets the eye. See more

08.01.2022 Two Trithemius wands, ebony, 12 turned in the day and hour of mercury. This was my first time working with ebony and I adore how they turned out! I used a new technique for the lettering which I think looks much more crisp and the client who commissioned them was super happy too. I’m really grateful for the chance to work with such a rare wood and I’m hoping to do some more ebony wands in the future!

The experience has been made only more magical since adding this sexy as heck pen to my toolkit.

I recently dropped the word "muggle" from my vocab for other reasons but this twitter thread really got me thinking that my initial response to replace it with "mortal", "mundane" or "cowen" might be coming from the wrong place. 03.01.2022 I’m down by the crossroads again today taking some time to reflect. I finished reading A Wizard of Earthsea yesterday (for the first time) and I was totally blown away. It was such a great exploration of character, magic as a profession, a wizards role in the community... it’s left me with so many things to chew and journal on. What are your favourite magical stories?

01.01.2022 I am yet to find a shareable meme that encapsulates the grief and anguish I’m feeling about the events taking place in the US right now as a response to the senseless murder of George Floyd. These riots and protests, not to mention the destruction of ancient sacred sites here in Australia, have sparked a necessary dialogue around racism and police brutality. I hesitate to use my own words in this discussion, recognising my own ignorance and lack of understanding and not want...ing to cause any further harm to a group of people who are already hurting. I understand that my whiteness and my passing-as-maleness lends me privilege which is why I tend to speak so little on matters of race or even women’s issues. When BIPOC folks speak I take that opportunity to listen, to learn - I try to make space for them to speak for themselves. I have felt called to action though by the people I look up to within the Vodou community. As I learn to move in an ATR I am doing my best to learn how to be a better ally and I have been moved to use my voice to echo #blacklivesmatter. When I see people condemning these riots and this public display of grief and fear I think of the phrase that came out of the AIDS protests in the 80’s Look pretty and do as little as possible. It brings to mind a clip of a reporter asking do you think you’ve really accomplished a great deal? to which a protester responds yes I think we do, what else can we do? Act up, fight back, fight racism. See more
