21.01.2022 The recent cyber attacks on #Australia highlight the need to add or reinforce security to protect your organisation. Below you will find some of our recommendations as part of ES2s Cyber Security Roadmap. Attacks are using 3 main vectors: Exploiting 4 x known vulnerabilities on internet facing systems. Action: Patch these.... Spear phishing with malicious links. Action: Enable URL sanitising via email gateway. Emails with Office attachments containing malicious scripts. Action: Quarantine attachments with a macros and manual inspect/release. If inside, attackers can use a combination of tools in which case ensure to have the following: App whitelisting in place to stop many of the tools running. Disabled powershell, wscript, etc. for non-privileged accounts. Disabled execution of Office Macros except confirmed files. Congratulations to long time ES2 Security Associate and Curtin University Researcher Stefan Prandl, who together with Curtin Universitys Research Team developed the innovative cyber security product HyprFire. The software which took Curtin Universitys innovation award when first developed in 2017 is ready to hit the market in the coming months. In response to this, a new standard was unveiled last week by the ETSI Technical Committee on Cybersecurity.
