19.01.2022 Every year, ACT Fire & Rescue host the Darren Wall Fun Run, honouring firefighter Darren Wall who served the ACT Community for more than 12 years before tragica...lly suffering a fatal heart attack in 1999. In 2020, the event was hosted virtually with participants running their fastest 5K and sharing their results electronically. Congrats to Gavin Godkin (ACTAS) & Meg Henry (ACTRFS), winners of the Darren Wall Shield, and firefighter Ricky Lloyd who took out the Darren Wall Trophy.

10.01.2022 Our annual family photo with Santa wearing our usual matching Hawaiian shirts has taken on a COVID approach this year. We are blessed that Roo has remained rel...atively well, however standing in line in close proximity to too many folks was too much of a risk for us. Let’s hope we all get back to Santa next year A happy and importantly safe Christmas to one and all See more
10.01.2022 Would you know what to say if someone says they’re not ok? 2020 hasn’t been easy for anyone. Now, more than ever, it’s so important for us to all stay connecte...d and check in on one another. Today is R U OK Day, and this year’s theme is ‘There’s more to say after R U OK?’ The ESA is focused on building a mentally healthy workplace, ensuring we listen to our colleagues when we ask how they are going. For support, tips and resources, visit the R U OK? Day website: ruok.org.au/join-r-u-ok-day
10.01.2022 The 2019-20 bushfire season tested us as first responders and as an Agency, and it was important for us to reflect, review and identify areas of improvement so ...we can deliver the highest level of service and protection to the community. Today, the ACTESA Operational Review into the effectiveness of our preparation, planning, response and recovery over the season was publicly released. While the review, undertaken by external consultants, found overall that our performance was sound, there were several areas of improvement identified. We are well underway in addressing these, and with our preparations for the upcoming bushfire and storm season. Our team of teams will meet the next season with expertise, experience and dedication to keep you all safe. The report is available at esa.act.gov.au, as well as the Review of the ACT Whole of Government Response to the 2019-20 bushfire season which was also released today. https://esa.act.gov.au//pu/reviews-2019-20-bushfire-season
09.01.2022 Thank you to the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment for the invitation to participate in your Innovation Month Webinar. A great opportunity to share the ESA’s experience during the 19/20 Bushfires (AKA Summergeddon) and to share ideas on innovation, risk and leadership. I was well supported by two of the seasons Incident Controllers Matthew Shonk and Matthew Mavity. Rohan Scott - you were missed today, but we will get you next time.
09.01.2022 The ACT Rural Fire Service is part of a vital, and potentially lifesaving, trial and we couldn’t be prouder. Announced today, the Minderoo Foundation's Fire Shi...eld Mission has brought together the ACT Rural Fire Service, Optus, The Australian National University and stakeholders to trial the use of ‘ground sensing’ cameras to improve detection times, allowing for a quicker response to bushfires. The cameras will be placed on radio or fire towers across the ACT and operate 24/7. The data collected will then be used to assess whether this technology can be implemented on a national scale. We hope that our work in this space will help shape the future technology of fire detection, response and fire behaviour predictions so we can ultimately better protect you, your property and the ACT landscape. #ACTRFS #FireShieldMission
08.01.2022 During these challenging times we have been working hard to maintain a presence within our community. In the lead up to our bushfire and storm season we were seeking a way to remain engaged with our community and ensure COVID 19 compliance. Today we received a delivery of our mobile hand sanitisers from an Australian Company that will accompany our community education teams at our shopping centre pop ups and community engagement activities. A great way to ensure compliance, promote community preparedness and resilience. ESA - working hard to keep the ACT safe
