18.01.2022 We regularly receive reports of sextortion people being blackmailed about their intimate images. This scam usually involves a woman contacting a man on social media and suggesting a video call which quickly turns sexual. However the woman is a scammer who secretly records the interaction and then threatens to release the footage to the man’s family, friends and colleagues unless he pays up. If this has happened to you (or someone you know) - don’t panic. The most importa...nt thing is to not give in to the blackmailer’s demands for money and follow these three steps: 1. Take screenshots of the blackmailer’s account and threats. 2. Report what’s happened to the social media service involved and to us https://bit.ly/2I8Inhb then block them and stop all contact. 3. Review eSafety’s ‘Deal with Sextortion’ page https://bit.ly/3sXpeRV for safety advice.

17.01.2022 Remember that image-based abuse is not your fault. Learn more about how to get help and support. Visit www.eSafety.gov.au for more information.
